Hi, my name is Shannon Annas and I am a documentary photographer. I am married and have three beautiful children, ages 17, 13, and 10. I bought my first camera when I was seventeen and haven’t stopped photographing since. Ever since I was a teenager, I have been drawn to black and white, documentary style photography. Telling stories with my photographs is something I strive for each time I pick up my camera. Black and white photography really speaks to me like no other style. Birth photography is by far my favorite genre of documentary photography. I get to capture the little moments that the parents don’t often see. The birthing process is such a beautiful event and I am blessed to be able to share my God given talent and photograph such an event. By having a photographer present during birth, it allows the father or support person to focus on the mother instead of taking pictures. I also enjoy building relationships with my clients before, during, and after the birthing process.

A huge part of my life is my faith. I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve on a missionary team for the last six years in Guatemala. God has allowed our team to build strong relationships with the people in the village of Colonia de Santa Cecilia. This series of portraits were taken on my latest trip in January of this year. The joy my heart feels after each trip is indescribable. Even though we may live very different lifestyles from those is Guatemala, our love for God and each other is what binds us together! I consider them my family and each time I leave there, I count down the days until I return to wrap my arms around them once again!
