CVCC eSports Design Objective:

Create a functional, yet unique space in the Catawba Valley Community College’s eSports arena. Also, design new uniforms for the team and marketing collateral to encourage membership.

Design Overview:

Catawba Valley Community College’s eSports team needed a space that matched the uniqueness of the sport. We were challenged with the task of creating new uniforms, a functional yet lively space, and extra collateral items. During this project, we partnered with other parts of campus, which included the Engineering Technology Program to help produce a 3D keychain prototype. The uniforms provide a striking appearance by the use of line work and a secondary logo pulled directly from the primary logo, which was provided. This project provided a sense of community and teamwork to fulfill the needs of the eSports team and space. Using Adobe Dimension we were able to create and design a fierce and functional space. The outside of the arena features LED lighting that zooms across the lip of the door to attract onlookers to come and explore the space. Moving to the inside of the arena, the lighting on the inside is crucial for streaming and gaming. The idea for the inside of the arena is to have lower lighting provided by LED strips. There are also LED’s running through the pattern wall. There are two graphic walls with a circuitry patterns to enhance the space and set the tone for what the space is used for. The other walls are a deep gray to help with keeping the room dark to help with gaming quality. Located on the wall adjacent to the TVs is an acrylic LED signage displaying the CVCC eSports logo. The amenities in the arena include a trophy case, vending machine, and a storage area for snacks. The trophy case has acrylic signage with numbers 1, 2, and 3 to mimic a podium. The mini fridge has the hydration bot from Twitch to add some humor into the space.

Drive-In Movie Theater Design Objective: Create a typographic logo for a

Drive-In Movie Theater and include a digital marketing case study, animated logo, and marketing campaign.

Design Overview: Typography, color, and movement

make this a successful manipulated typographic logo. The typeface choice was used because this is a familyfriendly drive-in. The round edges of the letterforms and script-like font make the logo appear welcoming and warm. By connecting the letters, it creates a sense of connectedness, which is fitting for the family-friendly aspect of the theme. This typeface is sans-serif with the little tail on the beginning “F,” but it still has a vintage look about it, due to the double layering. For the secondary type below the logo, there is balance by using a simple typeface that also has personality due to the varying stroke widths of the lines. As for the surrounding shapes within the logo like the odd-shaped circle and arrow going around, these items help to add the vintage aesthetic that was achieved. The inspiration came from vintage road signs and logos. The arrow adds movement and engages the viewers in looking at the whole logo and the different dot sizes included add variety to the band of the arrow. The color was another important decision because there were many different routes this logo could have gone. Considerations such as pink, green, and yellow came about; however, the chosen color palette was a warm orange, a peach, and a dark navy with a light turquoise. These colors are vintage in nature, but when applied, create a warm, inviting feeling. They can also appear bright and playful, appealing to the theme.

Bees’ Needs Design Objective:

Develop a 3 logos with 1-color, 2-color, and 3-color variations. Also, make an informational card, product sleeve, and hang tag with a time constraint of 4 hours.

Design Overview:

There is a clean sans-serif typeface used to play into the idea of the organization of bee colonies. The logomark is also a simplified, geometric bee. There is a hidden heart within the wings of the bee to show love and appreciation for all the hard work bees do for us. The use of the typeface and simplified bee create a light and airy feeling. The color palette is easily recognizable in order for the viewer to quickly make the connection to bees. There is script and sans-serif typefaces to create contrast and relatability to the topic.

Festival Rebrand Design Objective:

Choose an existing North Carolina festival and create new branding and a style guide. Create a microsite using Dreamweaver and design an itinerary for the festival.

Design Overview:

When researching NC Festivals, the American Indian Heritage Celebration caught my eye because there were many different avenues that could be taken when creating a new logo. Creating a moodboard with imagery helped to best describe what the festival offers and served as visual inspiration. One of the images from the mood board inspired the whole color palette used in the re branding of the festival. The overall theme of this festival is very rustic and natural to honor this, a badgestyle logo was introduced. The typographical elements play into the rustic and natural feel by having rounded edges that almost appear aged and the staggering baseline makes the type feel as if it’s dancing. This sans-serif primary typeface has been paired with a rustic-serif, typeface to compliment each other. The feathers included in the badge draw the eye inward to the logo. By doing this, it creates continuation and contrast. The tagline represents what the festival is as a whole— celebrating where you came from—solidifying what the festival is as a whole.

Express Airlines Design Objective:

Create a corporate logo that is service-orientated and include motion graphics, a marketing campaign, and web prototype.

Design Overview:

Express Airlines utilizes eye-catching colors of red and blue due to the existing correlation between the colors and many corporations. The typography expresses motion with the slanted typeface, this also plays into the name as a whole. The logomark draws inspiration from airplane wings and guides the viewers eye directly into the logotype. There is very sharp and geometric shapes used, to indicate a cleanliness and modern appearance to the airline. Since this is an airline company many of the marketing items will be marketed towards airport traffic, making it the target market for the company.

Illustration Work Design Overview:

These are some of my illustration pieces completed during my time as a CVCC student. Most of which were for class projects ranging from screen printing to mixed-media illustrations. The first one is a digital illustration of a celebrity named Travis Scott. The second is a mixed-media composition of the well-known IT clown. The last project is a screen printing piece produced with 3-colors using acrylic based ink.

Screen Printing

Three color printed piece using acrylic ink. Artwork was digitally produced on a tablet using Adobe Fresco. Final posters were screen printed on rotary press. This art was inspired by the 1920’s flapper era, separated into 3-colors. Red is used to catch the eye, while the black is for more prominent items. The silver ink is used to create depth within illustration. This piece showcases my knowledge and skills about screen printing projects.

Design Overview:

Oasis is a one-stop shop for all self-care services. The colors create a calm feeling, playing into color psychology. The logo is a dark navy blue, with a clean sans serif typeface with varying line widths to tie into the idea of the company catering to anyone and everyone. The logo mark is a blooming flower. This is signifying the growth you have while experiencing the services at Oasis. The secondary typeface ties into the varying widths of the primary typeface, which creates a complimentary pair. Oasis includes a moodboard, brand identity, marketing collateral, and a website landing page.

Catawba Farms Design Objective:

This was a group project where we were tasked with creating a label series for Catawba Farms new kombucha line. We also created additional marketing items such as an informational card, coasters, and additional labels for different size bottles.

Design Overview:

We drew inspiration from the kombucha market, which was vivid and showcased the ingredients within the drink. This design style is very vibrant, vivid with a vast color palette and every design choice has a meaning and intention behind it. Starting with the primary shapes, these are very loose and free-form, which not only contribute to the fun new style but also imply a resemblance to the SCOBY and bacteria used to make kombucha. Located inside of the shapes are various icons that each represent and give a reference to the process of making kombucha, as well as design elements pulled from the existing logo. The colors play directly into the flavor of each drink for the end-user to easily associate the flavor with the color.

Align Design Objective:

Create an app that solves a problem and create a prototype of the app concept.

Design Overview:

Align is a personality app designed to curate tips that are specific to the end-user. The app features several personality tests to choose from to learn more about yourself and discover tips along the way. The difference between align and other personality apps is Align offers all-in-one tests options! You also have the option to learn about other personalities as well, only after the user(s) type has been discovered. With the completion of more tests, the more specific and personable the tips become. The app will work on a freemium basis, meaning it is free upfront but in order to access all different tests, there will be a charge. The branding of the app was inspired by the mind, body, and spirit. The color palette features an eye-catching lime green paired with cooler tones of purple and navy. The blue color is to provide a sense of calm and the purple is to create serenity and peace. Again tying into the app concept itself as being motivational and uplifting.

Magazine Layout Design Design Objective:

Write an article and a side article with an assigned topic throughout a 6 page spread and include a Photoshop cover.

Design Overview:

This magazine is a modern and masculine design style. The dominant color usage of red and black instantly catches the eye of the viewer due to the intense contrast between all the colors. The use of the geometric sansserif typeface makes the design appear modern. The article’s topic is about Tesla, so the theme is fitting for the topic at hand with linework to allude to the fast and growing nature of the industry.
