Project Objective: Create a t-shirt design that represents the state of North Carolina and SkillsUSA. The t-shirt can have four colors maximum plus the color of the substrate and should show the correct output for screen printing.
Project Summary: For this project, rather than approach it with the typical elements that are usually thought about when people think about North Carolina; Red Cardinals, Blue Mountains, the busy Cities, the vast Forests, and the never-ending Coastlines; I had wanted to use elements to represent both the history and the state instead. For this, I used elements such as the original thirteen colonies, the year that the first town that was established in the state, dogwood flowers, and the “Carolina Blue” that makes up the movement in Blackbeard’s beard and the center of the flowers. Along with these elements, I created a partial circle of symbols that represent some of the other categories of the SkillsUSA competitions to help create a focus around Blackbeard. This design won the gold metal for the t-shirt design competition for the 2021 SkillsUSA North Carolina Conference.

Project Objective: Design a two-color logo for a bakery that’s based off a household object. Create a brand that can translate across a microsite, identity package, food packaging, and additional collateral.
Project Summary: Partners in Cream was inspired by bringing a modern approach to the typical bakery. While most bakeries have a neutral atmosphere, Partners in Cream brings a new approach with bold colors, a modern sans serif typeface, and unique logomark. The logomark for the brand is supposed to incorporate a visual mischievous personality that relates to the brand name being a play on the phrase, “Partners in Crime”, with the curves that can be seen in the top of the whisks, to the defining characteristics of the masks, into the curvature of the tails, and the defining black circle is used to bring attention to the focus of the logomark. By using a bright and feminine pink, by using the chosen color effectively, and by referencing to color theory, the brand can appeal to the target audience while standing out against their competition.

Project Objective: Develop a unique idea for a subscription box brand that will stand out against other competitors in the market. Create possible box collateral, a website, and a style guide that effectively represents the brand.
Project Summary: While there are many beauty boxes out there, and a market for them already exists, there weren’t any well-known boxes for nail care. Seeing the opportunity to explore this market, the existing brands for this specific industry are typically softer and typographically driven. To compete against them, the best approach would be to create an impactful brand. Having a more daring appearance throughout the brand colors, bold typography, patterns, and the sassy nature of the company being present throughout the branding helps them stand out against their competitors. Furthermore, with the company’s message of their clients embracing their own styles has helped them stand out in the influence on their logomark and further in their marketing on their website, tagline.

Project Objective: With the article given, create a four-page magazine spread and a cover that would catch the attention of the magazine’s target audience. Create the cover of the magazine by making a photo composite that should consist of three images.
Project Summary: While most magazine articles that have to do with technology are typically more futuristic in appearance, this magazine took a more simplistic twist to this theme. While there are many wellestablished technology magazine brands in existence, by having this one in a simpler futuristic appearance instead of being overly complicated, this gives it a better edge in both standing out, as well as attracting the attention of their targeted audience. The cover of the magazine has a composite of three images: the man with a professional appearance in his suit, the older model of the television, and the coding. By putting these together, it creates the look of having a professional recommend advice to the audience, or simply having him as a feature on the magazine cover. By repeating his image without the television at the title of the magazine article, gives the article the further attention of it being the main featured piece inside.

Project Objective: Create a unique brand for the new beer line at Catawba Farms Winery and Brewery. This new brand needs to represent the farm. However, it should also be flexible enough to go onto other collateral pieces.
Project Summary: When it came to designing the new beer labels for Catawba Farms, the main idea that was to be kept in mind was the fact that they wanted them to relate to either the stories present on the can, or to represent different aspects of the farm itself. To make the can line distinctive, different focal point illustrations were created for each of the cans. To emphasize the important parts on both the beer labels and the keg collar, such as the characters, government information, and stories, patterns were created to establish a visual movement. This would in turn lead the eyes of the consumer to the specific beer’s flavor and the unique beer stories. The whimsical design of the cans were then turned into a one-of-a-kind pull that reflects a unique twist on southern culture and how to make it stand out amongst others.

Project Objective: Create a unique typeface using proper typographical design techniques. The typeface should be original in concept and feature unique design elements.
Project Summary: “After Effect” is a geometric, decorative, sans-serif typeface that is to be used primarily as a display font. The font design incorporates strokes as decorative outlines around each letterform. The strokes accentuate the varying widths of the shapes in the letters while bringing more attention to the typography itself so that users will be able to create stronger, typographical driven designs. Furthermore, with combining both the sharp elements paired with the rounded accents, this typeface can be marketed and used across multiple designs that are striving for better gender neutrality. Not only can this unique typeface be used for modern designs, but showing that it can work with different colors demonstrates its flexibility.

Project Objective: Using items found on a store shelf, create a unique brand and packaging that will be able to carry across multiple mediums including packaging, print marketing, and digital marketing.
Project Summary: Revolt is a hair dye product that was created to focus on the counter-normative punk culture, but also market a home hair dye product to men. With the overall size of the box being small, it was important that the details were brand consistent. Although the robot characters change on each box to add visual interest, they maintain similar graphic elements for visual continuity. While the usual male products typically have simple color variations and typographical treatments to differentiate the products, Revolt utilizes robots and the color of the hair dye to showcase visual variety. The unique designs will also instigate the need for users to collect all the of the boxes with their different character designs in the series.

Project Objective: In consideration of the program’s culture and values, rebrand the CVCC Advertising and Graphic Design program while keeping the main color the same.
Project Summary: In consideration of the college’s brand standards, the AGD program rebrand had to be original, visually engaging, and maintain relevancy. One of the more unique challenges of this group project was the need to pivot halfway through the rebrand. The new concept showcased a more modern aesthetic and still maintained a fun atmosphere. To help display how impactful the rebranding would be in multiple areas: the classrooms, hallways, and even the darkroom that’s used for screen-printing, were mocked up with the new brand elements and other changes using Adobe Dimension. Along with the floor and wall vinyl’s that would be present in the outside hallway, there would also be a featured art piece on the wall that is a word map. The map itself is made up of terminology that is used in both graphic design as well as words that students and alumni would use to describe it.

Project Objective: Create an app that demonstrates your ability for UX/UI design and helps solve a problem for the end user. This app should be unique with both the problem that it solves as well as the branding for it.
Project Summary: The app interface on RECYCLD features a minimalist approach with a modern ecofriendly theme. This mixed design approach can be seen within the interface. By then creating app personas, this had proven to help maintain focus on the end users for the app and how to keep it relatable with slightly broader age groups. When it came to figuring out what would be an effective use for iconography, researching what’s typically thought of when people refer to an eco-friendly aesthetic while adding a fun twist to it proved to be successful in the overall branding. When designing additional screens for the app, a keen eye and attention to detail were necessary for consistency. In addition, an interactive scanning component was incorporated for the user to make them aware of their recycled items while showing recycling progress. To keep users more self aware of their actions, a more interactive approach with them scanning their product.

8th grade has been interesting so far for 13-year old Estelle. Recently she moved from Minnesota down to Georgia and has been noticing some big differences between her and the other kids. But, she would like to be able to make some friends and not feel so lonely. A couple of the new ideas that the school has implemented is promoting recycling and starting up some new clubs. One of them being gardening, which shows students how composting can help their own plants grow healthier. While Estelle has joined this club so she can try to make her vegetable garden at home look healthier, she still feels that she could do more to help plants in other parts of the world. She, as well as her parents, already recycle at their home, but she’s unsure of how much they do end up recycling. Along with this, she wishes that the other kids at her school would have more of an interest in recycling too and hopes that she can even make friends who share this same interest.
Being a junior in college can be pretty tough for 23 year old Kyle. Changing his major from secondary education to environmental science may have prolonged his academic career, but he’s much happier with his projected future career possibilities, and what he’s learning about. However, while knowing about how important it is to recycle and it being a common habit that people forget to keep up, he has discovered that he finds it difficult to manage how much he’s recycling. While he does try to maintain these better habits with his girlfriend, Tamara, they find it common to forget about with the two of them attending college full-time. With exams approaching, Kyle has began cramming in extra study time, which makes it more difficult for him to make proper meals, so lately he’s been living on snacks and dried cereal. Which he has noticed this has created him more waste compared to what he does usually. He would love to have an easy way of helping him track how much he can recycle, use his data on how much he recycles towards any future projects, have friendly competition with some of his friends, and reducing his own carbon footprint by doing so.
39 year old Adrianne is the lovely wife to her NASCAR driving husband, George Martin, and mother to their 5 loving children Jordan, Hanson, Corvin, and the twins Daisy and Delilah. Being a stay at home mom, along with her children being at the ages of 10, 8, 7, and with the twins who just turned 3, she started to notice how many groceries they’re going through and how much trash it’s created. Before the girls were born, she was much better about recycling, and would like to get back into the swing of it. However, between dropping the girls off at daycare, taking the boys to school, Jordan’s tuba lessons, Hanson’s Baseball practices, Corvin’s football practices, and taking the family to show her husband support during his races, she’s not even sure how much she would end up recycling each month, or if it’s even worth it. If she were to have an app that could help her get back to recycling more, she’ll be able to teach her children good cleaning habits and interact with them more.
To be able to show the attention to detail to what can help make an app or break an app, a loading screen fitting the brand and how it would progress through the mockup animation is shown.

Project Objective: Design and name a unique illustrated character. Develop the character across 2D and 3D iterations.
Project Summary: Nesa is a new toy on the market with a younger demographic. Nesa stands for, “Next Evolutionary Step: Aquatic”. The character was originally hand-illustrated, then digitally illustrated using Adobe Photoshop. To achieve a 3D design, the illustration was then taken into Adobe Dimension. By creating the design in various programs, this demonstrates the fluidity of the characters form from 2D to 3D. Design nuances were taken from the main illustration into a fun typographical namesake treatment.
