Create a video to advertise the subscription box and its qualities. Create a branded style guide to showcase the campaign and its process. DESIGN BRIEF: Gallivant is a state travel subscription box service provided for travel enthusiasts who love to wander but don’t have the time or budget to do so. We offer historical features that represent each state and what makes each state unique. Each month you will be greeted with a postcard about that state and giving you some historical facts about the state. On the outside of the box, you are welcomed with a stamp seal of the state you are receiving that particular month. The word Gallivant means that someone goes around from one place to another in the pursuit of pleasure or entertainment. All of our boxes are screen printed to capture the vintage travel aesthetic that Gallivant gives to its customers.

WHY SIMPLE IS SEXY AGAIN magazine layout

DESIGN OBJECTIVE: Create a cover image and layout for a short article Why Simple is Sexy Again. Research trending styles to create a current magazine layout. The cover for the magazine should tie back in with the contents inside.

DESIGN BRIEF: The article “Why Simple is Sexy Again,” signifies how humans have made technology more complex than what we hoped to be. The layout of the magazine is slick and simple to follow allowing the reader to easily navigate the contents. Utilizing geometric shapes and a calming color palette, allows for the layout to tie back with the articles name, making things simple and visually pleasing. Majority of the layout was done using Adobe InDesign, a page layout software. Commercial-freestock photography from Unsplash, was used when creating the cover. Adobe Photoshop was used to manipulate images into a composition for the cover. The cover of the magazine uses repetition of the color blue from the layout as well as some pop of orange to unify the cover.

AGD REBRAND rebrand

DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The Advertising and Graphic Design program at CVCC requires a rebrand for the program’s working space, logo, and recruitment efforts. Consider how the promotional materials appeals to students, and how it might need to change to increase interest in this field.

DESIGN BRIEF: The newly designed rebrand for the Advertising and Graphic Design program consists of simple iconography that includes tools used within the program. The pen tool represents the digital process, and the lightbulb represents the brainstorming process. The color palette throughout the rebrand contains the signature lime green of the program, gray, teal, and black. The logomark design takes in two styles, one with a gradient and the other does not. The reason why was because, during the process, collateral and recruitment packs had to be screen-printed. These packs contained masks, mousepads, stickers, a sketchbook. All of which are materials that will help future students who take part in the program. My role was to create an engaging recruitment poster for students who plan on joining the program.

AMBIANCE

DESIGN OBJECTIVE: Create a new packaging product that is unique and that shows variety. Create die lines for the production aspect, a logo and a style guide. Create a digital ad series to showcase the products. The packaging should consist of two distinct products within the cohesive series.

DESIGN BRIEF: Ambiance is a shampoo and conditioner product line for women. The logo mark is made up of linework and illustrates a woman with long, luscious hair. To match the flow of the hair, the main logotype is a script typeface that curls around and touches the logo mark. The word Ambiance means the character and atmosphere of a place. This product is made up of all-natural ingredients. The scents that were created are Lovely Lavender and Blueberry Blossom. The box itself is white with a lilac flower pattern. KEEHIVE FARMS

household object reduction

DESIGN OBJECTIVE: Create and expand a campaign by using a graphically-reduced household object. Using software such as Adobe Animate, find a way to animate the logo to be visually pleasing, and code a responsive microsite using Adobe Dreamweaver or Adobe XD for an event that the campaign will host. In addition, create a full color and one-color logo along with an identity package.

DESIGN BRIEF: The household object chosen was a key, which was the logo mark. The key has the pattern stripes of a bee, hence the bee wordplay. The teeth of a key are honeycombs to tie back the environmental aspects of bees. The bold typeface for the name KeeHive was implemented to enhance the boldness of the stripes and the typeface for “farms” which was Avenir, which was used to create contrast and a connection to equally balance the name. While creating the animated logo in Adobe Animate, the elements had to be placed on the stage. Some add-on elements to the campaign were graphics of bees to play along with the logo. To advertise this campaign, a responsive and coded microsite was created, hosting an event where families can adopt a hive and keep the bees alive. The event provides a learning experience for people to take care of bees and see the process of processing honey.

CRAFT BEER SERIES Catawba Farms Collaboration collaboration

DESIGN OBJECTIVE: The Brewery at Catawba Farms is a local vineyard and are looking to add a new product to their menu, craft beer. They have already developed six beer flavors, with names and story of origin. Catawba Farms wanted beer labels that would match their aesthetic and for all the beers to be part of a series, where the design would connect from one beer to another. The Brewery team provided the short stories of each beer, the ingredients, the TTB Government Guideline and their logo and typeface.

DESIGN BRIEF: While exploring possibilities for the label design for each variety of beer, our group determined the locality and the ingredients of the brewing process were relevant to the promotion of each of the products. Their ingredients ranged from a 100-mile radius from their location. The design concept was based upon graphical representations of Catawba County and nearby cities such as Hickory, Newton, etc. The labels show connectivity by roads, repeating elements have been showcased on each beer to show a cohesive series. To expand this series, collateral for the design was produced such as coasters, a poster, etched pint glasses, and tasting cards. These items of collateral were chosen to show connectivity to tie back in with the labels.

THROWBACK DESIGN 1980s Retro Design

DESIGN OBJECTIVE: Design a two-color of a historic artist, design movement or style. The concept can be typographically or graphically driven and should correspond with the appropriate style chosen.

DESIGN BRIEF: In the 1980s, synth-wave played a role during that decade. The 1980s was a decade where the future was near technology was advancing. The design is based on the iconic Delorean from the movie series “Back to the Future,” having the car drive off into the sunset creating movement. The 1980s were known for the bright neon colors such as oranges, blues, and purples. For this two-color job, bright orange and dark purple were used to tie in the 80s aesthetic. It allowed for creative problem solving, meaning what elements would be orange and purple and not overlap. The process started with creating the Deleroen in full color and figuring out the color palette, allowing the purple to be more dominant than the orange. While the orange sets as the accents of the car and road.

T- SHIRT DESIGN

SkillsUSA 2021 Competition

DESIGN OBJECTIVE: Create a design for the SkillsUSA t-shirt competition. Specifications that need to be met are limited four-color palette, and the substrate color. The overall design should represent North Carolina and have appeal for all North Carolina SkillsUSA members.

DESIGN BRIEF: This t-shirt design was influenced by the Bauhaus movement that originated in the early 1910s. This movement was focused around architecture and the use of geometric shapes and bright colors. The design consists of North Carolina’s mountains, coast and its two largest cities, Charlotte and Raleigh. The shirt features tools throughout the design to represent the various trades of SkillsUSA members. The design also features a custom typographical treatment with influences drawn from the Bauhaus style. The design was limited to four spot colors plus the color of the t-shirt. The design sits on a black substrate, allowing the bright colors to gain more emphasis.
