Subscription Box Design Objective Create a subscription box that is unique and portrays strong design assets. Design a brand, produce the box, create a website, and also expand this idea into social media marketing campaigns.
Design Brief Plushables is a monthly subscription for kids. Each month, they will receive a new plushie that they will get to stuff and place their very own wish inside. Their wish is written on a scroll and placed within the magical wishing star. Plushables allows kids to have fun, learn basic sewing skills, while also making a loving plushie friend. The logo is an elephant named Stella, who wears a wizard hat, floating on a cloud. This image provides a magical and whimsical feeling to the brand. The branding utilizes soft, light colors designed to be more appealing to its target audience. The production of the box itself was also a major part. The structure of the box resembles a wardrobe with its double doors. Once they are opened, three drawers are seen inside that hold all the supplies the child will need to create their plushie. Since the target audience is children, making the box as interactive as possible was one of the top priorities. Plushables was promoted across several platforms in effort to practice social media training. Finally, the box was created in a three-dimensional design software, Adobe Dimension. The box and the scenery were made completely from scratch by utilizing different materials and manipulation tools within this software. All these aspects allowed this magical brand to come to life.

Salon & Beautique Design Objective Create a brand for a salon and beauty boutique using a graphically reduced hair dryer. Expand the brand into additional collateral and web design.
Design Brief Love Locks utilizes a hair dryer for the logo because it is an extremely iconic and recognizable item. In the graphic, the hair dryer is blowing hot air, represented by swirls, while it is also intertwined in the shape of a heart. All these features tie the brand together. The brand consists of a simple yet classic color palette of magenta and black. The desire is to target the beauty community and anyone who wants a fresh new look. After the logo was solidified, the brand was expanded even further. A brand identity package was created, which includes branding, a business card, a letterhead, and an envelope. Love Lock’s animated logo showcases the modern yet elegant logo swooshing across the screen in a drawing manner designed to maintain simple and feminine brand qualities. The branded microsite displays a customer appreciation campaign created for Love Locks. Consumers may enter a contest to possibly receive tickets to travel to the main beautique located in New York City. When they arrive, they will receive a free tour and beauty transformation.

Story Book Composite Design Objective Create a Photoshop composite with a fairytale theme that features Thumbelina with a science fiction twist. The composite must be visually interesting and translate well to all viewers.
Design Brief This composite recalls a scene within the Thumbelina storybook. Thumbelina finds herself discovering a toad in the middle of the story. For the science fiction twist, she is a scientist who shrinks down to size to study different animals. The composite displays Thumbelina sitting inside a glass tank, photographing a frog. This scene utilizes several different plant components designed to bring it to life. The composite was created by selecting several different nature scenes from different photos. They were then blended together using several different layers in Adobe Photoshop. The tank was recreated using a windowsill graphic while also using adjustment layers and opacity to create the glass effect. Overall, this composite portrays a magical, fun experience for everyone to enjoy.

Pop Art Series Design Objective Create a three-part digital illustration series using Adobe Illustrator for the characters Harley Quinn, Batman, and Joker. The designs must be fun and full of color.
Design Brief The use of an iPad and Mac brought these illustrations to life. A rough version was sketched out on the iPad, the file was sent to the Mac where all the refinements could be added. Much of the linework needed to be cleaned up. The stroke weights within the designs vary and help tie all three illustrations together. These designs needed to be cohesive but stand out in their own ways. Each one has a unique but similar color palette. Harley Quinn’s contains yellow, pink, blue and red. Batman’s contains yellow, black, blue and grey. Joker’s contains yellow, orange, blue and red.

AGD Rebrand Design Objective Teams must concept, rebrand, and produce collateral for the Advertising & Graphic Department at Catawba Valley Commuinty College.
Design Brief “AGD: Shape Your Future” utilizes gradients with lime green, dark green, and grey for the colors. The icon set of the pen tool and lightbulb reflect the gradient element. The patterns use the icon set and are used for collateral, such as the mousepads and any other additional items. Some other collateral are masks, lanyards, t-shirts, and posters. The recruitment pack uses a few of these items. The rebrand concept was also taken into social media marketing that utilizes platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram. The three-dimensional design software, Adobe Dimension, was used to create the example spaces for the rebrand. It displays a whole classroom with flooring, walls with vinyl, windows with window cling and more. Each of these items has a certain texture and/or graphic applied to the surface. The space is modeled to look just like the Advertising and Graphic Design classroom. This provides ease of access and understanding to anyone who needs a visual aid of the interior designs.

User Testing Survey: If you were experiencing anxiety, how could you see the app benefiting you?
By writing my journals I guess. Or reading reminders.
I like the breathing exercise prompt. It would make it even better if it had a calm voice verbally telling you when to breathe in and breathe out. I also like the journal.
The breathing exercises could help me initially calm down, and then the Cognitive Therapy could help me to think through what’s making me anxious!!
I have a spot that I can write how my day went. Also maybe you should offer an option to let the therapist see what you wrote.
This app would be very helpful. I would use the journal pretty often that way I could see the change in my moods.
The app would give you helpful tips that you could use to calm yourself down and the breathing would help.
This could be someone who you know could help you relax if you don’t have someone around you to talk to.
The colors of the app are calming and not overwhelming which could potentially even help with anxiety.

Six T-Shirt Campaign Design Objective Design a six t-shirt campaign branded toward the Twenty-One Pilots album Blurryface. The designs must be cohesive and translate well to the consumer.
Design Brief Each graphic corresponds to a different song from the Twenty-One Pilots album Blurryface. The chosen songs that correspond with the designs are “Tear in my Heart,” “Ride,” “The Judge,” “Stressed Out,” “We Don’t Believe What’s on TV” and the album name Blurryface ties them all together. The graphic for Tear in my Heart portrays a broken heart which utilizes proximity within the design. The broken heart represents the pain the lyrics of the song describe. The graphic for “Ride” includes the sunglasses worn by Tyler Joseph throughout the song’s iconic music video. For the song “The Judge,” the design incorporates the three lights that are lit and the fourth one which is out. “Stressed Out” utilizes a clock to represent the artists’ lyrics of turning back time to the good old days. For the final song, “We Don’t Believe What’s on TV,” a classic TV graphic is portrayed. The last t-shirt displays a graphic for the entire album Blurryface that incorporates Tyler Joseph wearing the iconic clothes seen throughout the album.

Rebrand & Craft Beer Labels Design Objective This project required teams to concept, design, and prototype beer labels, plus create additional marketing items. The winning team was awarded first place and also given the opportunity to rebrand the company The Winery and Brewery at Catawba Farms.
Design Brief Catawba Farms has several different parts to their company, such as the Brewery, the Winery, the Peacock Inn, and the Rink. The icon set was created in order to reflect each of these smaller aspects of the farm. For the beer can labels, the chosen team decided to use barn quilts as inspiration for the designs to illustrate and tie the business and its products to the history and heritage of the farm. Each label was crafted together by using different icons as the center piece. Each icon corresponds to different scenery or stories associated with Catawba Farms. Detailed linework is utilized to pull everything together and create the overall barn quilt look. To display the cans, they are custom rendered in the three-dimensional design software, Adobe Dimension. Additionally, the draft pull is designed as companion images associated with beers. It has a cohesive, rustic, and geometric design while also providing interchangeable pieces. The icon and the label strip may be removed and replaced with paper sliders. It is also prototyped in Adobe Dimension.
