QUICK SET App Interface Design Design Objective Design an app interface that solves a problem. Create the interface for optimal user experience, specifically for the concept’s target audience.

Design Brief Quick Set is an app that simplifies a process in club volleyball organizations. The app’s purpose is to allow parents, coaches, and club directors to operate with maximum efficiency. The logo design implies swift movement while remaining simplistic and target audience-specific. The user-friendly interface is easy to navigate, and the customizable color scheme allows the app to be easily distinguished from its competition. The interface design concept started with rough sketches, moved to wireframes, and transitioned into a functioning prototype. User testing was a key part of the design process as well as creating the dark mode interface to save battery life and ensure maximum user experience.

This app has key features, such as schedules, rosters, messaging, stats, and profiles purposefully designed to simplify a process. This app concept was pitched in a shark tank format and took second place. Software utilized in this campaign include Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe XD.

CATAWBA FARMS Craft Beer Labels Design Objective The Winery and Brewery at Catawba Farms is requesting six new can label designs for their locally-brewed line of craft beer flavors. This business labeling concept seeks to create a unique design that tells the story of the brewery’s development.

Design Brief Working in a team setting and assuming a leadership role, six visually appealing, fun, and memorable labels were created for each craft beer flavor. This role included scheduling deadlines, creating the label concept, arranging label layouts, and designing several character illustrations.

Each label design consists of a character illustration as the focal point, with bold colored bottom borders pulled from the breweries logo remaining consistent with the brand. Playful and rustic sans-serif typefaces were utilized to achieve a fun and interesting aesthetic. These label designs were successful in visually portraying the story of each brewed flavor. Extra collateral included t-shirts, stickers, magnets, tap pull handle, coasters, and custometched glasses. Once the project was complete this campaign was presented to the company’s stakeholders.

TIL DEATH WE DO ART 3-Color Hand-Cut Rubylith Screen Printing Poster Illustration

Design Objective Create a detailed 3-color illustrated poster using a hand-cut Rubylith technique.

Design Brief The concept of the design stems from the quote, “Til Death We Do Art.” The production process included many stages; preparing, creating, and printing. To prepare, screens were coated with emulsion to create a stencil. The design was developed in Procreate using a color separation technique. Once the design was complete, each color layer was then transferred into Rubylith to create a film positive using an Exacto knife.

The three screens were then exposed, rinsed, and ready for the printing process. Acrylic water-based inks were used on a vacuum press to print each poster. The vibrant, triadic color relation displays the psychedelic aesthetic of the illustration and establishes hierarchy on the page.

A dark black substrate was chosen to emphasize the negative space and contrast the primary colors. The bell bottom, hippie typography was hand rendered and intentionally chosen to further convey the psychedelic aesthetic. The typography also demonstrates movement along with the mushrooms. Forty prints were produced of this illustration.

THE DECKADES CARD CO. Pattern and Packaging Design Design Objective Create a logo and packaging design for The Deckades Card Company that stands out on the shelf and engages the target audience.

Design Brief The Deckades Card Company is a business that sells decade-themed playing card collections. Each full set includes eight-deck designs uniquely created with an individual pattern that reflects the decade. The patterns were designed to be nostalgic and trendy within the times. The company branding uses a retro, sans-serif typeface with line repetition that emulates a stack of playing cards. Production included custom die-lines, packaging, pre-flighting, assembling, and photographing the company product. The campaign was extended by creating face card designs per the decade. Famous celebrities Marilyn Monroe, Lucille Ball, and Elvis Presley were featured in a 1950’s cartoon style for the 50’s decade collection. Software utilized in this campaign include Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Dimension.

The client is requesting an eye-catching cover composition and a visually appealing two-spread layout design for the article. The client wishes to intrigue their readers by capturing and holding their attention as they flip through the pages.

Design Brief To achieve engagement and visual interest, the cover design utilizes a composite of three separate photos designed intentionally to reach a large target audience while relating the article’s futuristic concept. The hierarchy of elements in the design leads the viewer’s eyes across the page. The harmony of the cool blue color tones allows for an enjoyable read while relating to the advanced technological topic of the article. Minimalistic, sans-serif typefaces were implemented giving the design a cohesive theme. Software utilized in the campaign include Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop.

PROGRAM REBRAND CVCC Advertising and Graphic Design Program Rebrand Design Objective The Advertising and Graphic Design Program at Catawba Valley Community College is in need of a program rebrand to achieve a fresh and updated visual aesthetic that appeals to their target audience.

Design Brief Working in a team setting, a modernized logo and brand identity was developed for the design program. The team was tasked with redesigning the program’s recruitment package. This included a poster, postcard, welcome letter, brochure, flyer, sticker, and button designs. I played an instrumental part in developing the tag line, “Design, Develop, Deliver,” redesigning the recruitment brochure and developing the concept for the recruitment poster.

Design Brief Utilizing the brush and eyedropper tool in Adobe Illustrator achieves a soft digital oil painting of the actress, Audrey Hepburn. The eyedropper tool enables exact color matching for a realistic and life-like effect, while the fan brush, at a low stroke weight, successfully achieves the desired stylized illustration. Beginning around her face and completing the illustration with the contrasting blue background a well blended, and soft painted aesthetic was achieved.

DEJA BREW Branding Identity Design Objective Develop the branding for a coffee and tea café. The brand campaign should translate across various mediums and appeal to the intended audience.

Design Brief Deja Brew utilizes a graphically reduced teapot to transform into the mark for this hip coffee and tea café.

The logomark for Deja Brew features a celestial theme while the logotype consists of a retro sans-serif typeface.

The proximity used in the design of the teapot mark gives the logo visual interest. The design is unified with the placement of type around the circular mark. Each element is equally proportioned to provide balance.

Further, the neutral brown color tones relate to the organic mission of the brand. The campaign features branded collateral including an identity package, animated logo, branded materials, menu design, as well as web components. BROCHURE DESIGN Saul Bass Design Legend Brochure Design Objective Innovate and create a folding brochure that contains information about a design legend who influenced the design world today. The brochure is to reflect the designer while being captivating, interesting, and unique.

Design Brief After meticulous research of the designer, Saul Bass, a gate-fold brochure was chosen to best represent and reflect his outstanding contributions to the design world.

The die-cut design in the center of the brochure achieves an interesting and interactive element for the target audience. The front flaps are green with diagonal, dark grey stripes to pay tribute to his famous title sequence in North by Northwest. The outer ring of the die-cut circle is the design he used for the memorable movie poster, Vertigo. Finally, the center of the die-cut circle is the famous cutout of the addict’s arm he created for “The Man with the Golden Arm.” This element is printed on the inside of the brochure and is a focal point of the unified design. The circular layout demonstrates repetition to make the brochure one cohesive document.

Product staging and photos were strategically captured to demonstrate the interactive elements of the brochure.

THE VELVET GRAPE Subscription Box Company Design Objective Conceptualize a subscription box company that is unique and has a strong brand identity. Required marketing collateral components include branding elements, identity material, packaging, social media presence, email marketing, and a company website. Complete a digital marketing case study strategy that will allow the business to make the right decisions and have a successful online presence.

Design Brief The Velvet Grape brand implements deep red-wine tones and classic script and serif typefaces to achieve perceived elegance. The logo is visually pleasing utilizing gestalt principles such as closure and proximity. Additional elements such as the soft textures of the velvet and patterns were created to expand the overall aesthetic of the brand. The packaging design emphasizes the logo by the contrast of its placement on the stark white subscription box. Production of the box and its contents included custom die lines, labels, printed collateral, and preflight. The Velvet Grape achieves its marketing goals by following three marketing objectives: elegance, excitement, and experience. The voice of the company is elegant along with the box, branding, and internal collateral. Social media marketing focuses on exciting the company’s target market, affluent adults ages 21 to 65.

While the box is an experience of bringing the winery to the home, social media efforts have been strategically prepared and scheduled by utilizing the Hootsuite platform. This allows the brand to stay consistent when reaching its target audience for engagement. POWELL PALOOZA Shop Local Event Design Objective Conceptualize an exciting design for a shop local event.

Develop the event brand, poster, activity map, and swag.

Design Brief Powell Palooza is a one-day, family-friendly, adventure event located on beautiful Lake Powell in Page, Arizona.

The brand was created to engage and excite the target audience. The eagle logo mark pays homage to the Native American tribes that have a rich history of cultural influences in the city of Page. While the rectangular shapes of the design balance the logo horizontally, placement of the funky sans-serif typeface balances the design vertically.

Using a color palette that portrays the personality of the desert such as turquoise blue, burnt, sandy orange, and neutral browns makes the design and concept cohesive.

Each element in the event poster design, including the logo, map, icons, and information, is intentionally placed to achieve a hierarchal balance. This makes the poster successful in capturing the viewer’s attention and informing them about the event. Branded swag designs were also created to give out to the event attendees. Software utilized in the campaign include Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Photoshop.

JOSIE STREETWEAR Fashion Branding Design Objective Develop a brand identity for a fashion line start-up.

Include a brand logo, storefront sign, clothing tag, and custom shopping bag design. Expand the campaign with a magazine cover, one spread ad, and a social media marketing strategy.

Design Brief Josie Streetwear utilizes a classic black-letter and serif, typographical logo mark. The mark is vertically balanced and includes a branded snake emblem as the “s” in the center of the name, Josie. The brand uses a monochromatic color scheme of neutral browns.

The branding design process included brainstorming, designing mood boards, creating analog logo ideation, and digital roughs. Establishing the primary logo first, allowed for the next steps in each campaign to reflect its design and keep the branding cohesive. Secondary brand images were purposefully curated and edited to fit the brands marketing efforts and guidelines. Snake-like patterns were also created as secondary elements from the primary logo design. These will be implemented in packaging and marketing materials. Software utilized in the campaign include Procreate, Adobe Illustrator, and Adobe Photoshop.
