Subversive Cosmetics Design Objective

The objective was to create a new cosmetic brand that was unique to the market. The requirements were to create a logo, two packaging designs, and two fullpage advertisements.

Design Brief

In Bloom and Lithium were two eyeshadow palettes created for the Subversive Cosmetics brand. These palettes were to be designed as a pair that used similar elements to tie them together. A bold sans serif typeface was chosen to bring a modern aesthetic to the company. The use of outlined type is also on trend in design today. The linework depicted on the packaging brings a more psychedelic feeling that entices the target market, which is 18–30.

Eye See Everything Description

Depicted is an intricate zentangle depiction of the all-seeing eye encompassed in an impossible triangle, framed by a bright magenta triangle and a braided rope-like circle.

Red Hawk Red Design Objective

The objective was to create the identity for a new cobranded wine between Catawba Farms and CVCC. The requirements were to design a logo, label, and various packaging for the bottle. The assignment also included a photoshoot to highlight and display the design of the bottle. This project was a team effort, with my partner being Josh Cisney of JC Designs.

Design Brief

The introduction of Red Hawk Red wine features a collaborative effort between Catawba Farms and CVCC. The branding was intended to be sophisticated and a product anyone with ties to the college would be proud to display in their homes. A modern serif typeface was chosen to highlight the professional aesthetic that both the college and the winery represent. The mark is comprised of a hawk and a feather, which are made by using the Gestalt principle of figure-ground. The label itself is die cut to wrap around the bottle in order to create more interest than a standard rectangle label would. The color palette of cream and red was chosen to give a professional aesthetic to the label.

Las Vegas Rockies Design Objective

The objective was to create and brand a new professional sports team. The project requirements were to design a logo and branding for the team along with wayfinding that would be displayed throughout the team’s arena as well as a multi-page website for the team. The branding should relate to the target market and keep an athletic aesthetic.

Design Brief

The branding was designed to remain within the style of existing NBA team logos. The design of the logo stemmed from two of the biggest industries found in Nevada—mining and city life. The basketball is positioned on the bottom portion of the logo because the shape enclosing the type reminded me of a stylized basketball backboard with the ball going through a hoop. The color palette represents the state color of Nevada and the desert climate experienced in Las Vegas. The bold sans serif typeface was chosen to create emphasis on Las Vegas, and the warped outlined sans serif was designed to bring movement to the logo.

The elevator wayfinding that will be included in the Las Vegas Rockies arena will consist of the mountain range pulled from the logo mark. This will be produced out of vinyl and will be placed on both elevator doors in such a way that once seen from a distance the mountains are continued from door-to-door. Alongside the vinyl graphic, there will also be a number routed out from frosted acrylic that sits in the middle of the two doors to let guests locate which floor they are currently on. This number will be approximately 3.5’ x 7’.

The section seating wayfinding will measure approximately 10’x5’ and will be ceiling suspended from metal rods built into the fixture itself. The substrates used will be acrylic and the ‘Section’ and numbers will be routed out of frosted acrylic to accommodate interior lighting.

The row seating wayfinding will measure 5’x4’ and will be ceiling suspended with metal rods. The fixture will be constructed out of acrylic with routed out arrows and numbers. The basketball portion will be a frosted acrylic to support internal lighting that can be turned off when games begin.

The bathroom wayfinding will consist of the mountain range pulled from the logo mark as well as a stylized male and/or female bathroom symbol. This will be produced out of vinyl and will be placed along the entrance of the bathroom.

The environmental graphic illustrating the tertiary logo of the Las Vegas Rockies will be produced out of MDO wood due to its sturdy, long-lasting qualities. It will measure 15’x15’ and will be made from three different layers: one with the basketball, one with the mountain range, and one with the city. The parking lot wayfinding located on the arena grounds will measure out to be 3’x7’. It will be constructed out of a metal frame with routed numbers which will be illuminated when dark. The basketball will be made from two pieces of clear acrylic with orange printed on one side of each and then adhered together. On the opposite side, there will be the lines of the ball printed. The mountains will be made from vinyl.

Art Show Invitation Design Objective

The objective was to create an event poster and coordinating postcard invitation for the 2020 CVCC Student Art Show. The design would need to be modern, engaging, and appealing to a broad audience. The requirements were a postcard, poster, wayfinding banner, social media assets, and website.

Design Brief The CVCC Student Art Show is an annual portfolio show held in May in order to showcase the work of the students in the Advertising and Graphic Design, Photographic Technology, and Visual Arts Programs at CVCC. The final design gave a very modern look to the event. The rectangular frame that encompasses the model gives an angular contrast to the organic, curved elements found in the background of the piece. The bright color palette was chosen to not only make the invitation eye-catching, but to also differentiate the 2020 invitation from all previous designs.

Kev

Amiel

Addison

Kev is an avid vinyl record collector and used to love displaying his collections on his walls. Unfortunately, he was led into a bad business deal and lost everything he had including the people he thought would always be there for him. This loss forced him into living with two roommates in a very tiny apartment in the city where his vinyl sits in a box in his closet and not on the walls where he would like it. This also makes it hard for Kev to remember which records he has in his collection, so when he can spare a few dollars and go record shopping he can buy with no hesitation. Apart from collecting, Kev is very much fond of helping his girlfriend, a fellow barista he met at work, host bi-weekly dinner parties at her house. One of Kev’s goals is to impart his love of vinyl on his girlfriend. So that although he is unable to show off his collection in his apartment, she would be able to do so, and if someday they happen to move in together, Age: 27 they can merge their two collections into one.

Location: Portland, OR

Amiel has a slight organizational obsession that has led him to keep inventory of his clothing. He is a strong believer in having an app for literally anything and everything in life from personal assistant apps to ticket buying apps and meditation apps. This is why not having an app to catalog his ever-growing collection of vinyl records is such a let down for him. He likes to frequent small record stores both in the city and when he is away on business and needs to know exactly which records he already owns. There are times when Amiel is not able to make his way to the shops but would still like to purchase new vinyl. His girlfriend is also aware of how much he enjoys listening to this analog tech and sometimes likes to surprise him with records that she finds in small thrift stores but has in the past been guilty of giving Amiel a record which he already has.

Age: 30 Location: New York, NY

Addison loves everything vintage from Polaroid cameras to typewriters to vinyl and record players. She takes her camera everywhere she goes and uses Instagram as a means of instantly sharing pictures with her 846k followers. Often, she does a ‘Vinyl of the Week’ video on her Youtube channel where she goes in-depth and talks about her favorite record of that week. Addison has tried to share her vinyl collection in many different ways but none of them are ever efficient enough. She would like to have a way of instantly uploading the specific records that she owns so that her audience would be able to purchase the same one if they wanted to. With this, Addison would also be able to update her followers of any new records that she adds to her collection instead of having to wait and make a ‘Vinyl of the Week’ video about it because with the ad money that she’s bringing in she will add 5-10 records in one shopping trip. Addison Age: 24 also keeps her followers updated on her two cats and the several succulents and other plants Location: Boulder, CO that she keeps around her house.
