Project Scope Demonstrate your understanding of visual branding and identity systems through the creation of a new branded subscription box. Produce physical box packaging that can securely contain, identify, and deliver the product. Create a digital marketing case study for the brand. The branded formal case study will strategize for January 1, 2021, through March 31, 2021. Incorporate visuals and graphics when appropriate. Conceptualize and produce a multimedia piece created in Adobe Premiere Rush or Adobe Spark. Also, design a multi-page website prototype that meets the digital marketing goals and branding requirements previously established. The website prototype must include a home/landing page and at least three additional pages.
Project Brief Flourish is a Bible Study subscription box company. The target audience of Flourish is women ages 20–30 years old. The branding is simple and natural, encouraging women to be themselves in their journey to seek, grow, and flourish. The logo mark is a simple floral element that is not fully filled in to encourage women to embrace the imperfect growth within the mess of life. The color palette used within Flourish’s branding is feminine and natural to embrace the idea of growth. The digital marketing case study fully outlines marketing strategies and plans for further marketing for Flourish. The testimonial multimedia piece for Flourish gives a glimpse into the purpose behind Flourish and the products the box contains. For the multi-page website prototype, each page includes branded elements and photography to showcase the box and seamlessly guide the user through the site.

Veronica Perez, 24 Veronica is an interior designer for a local firm that requires her to travel for work. She was raised by her father and is the oldest of three kids. Veronica loves to spend time with her friends and family, whether it be at a coffee shop, family gathering, or church. Veronica loves serving at her church and in her community. She loves spending time in the Word but often finds it difficult to figure out where to start. She also struggles to remember what she reads. Veronica would love to have a guide that would help her go through the Word and encourage her to take notes about what she is reading.
Natasha Reed, 23 Natasha just started her job as an RN for a local hospital in downtown Houston, allowing her an adequate amount of disposable income. She is the youngest of four kids and visits her family in San Antonio, TX as much as she can. Natasha recently moved to the city and started attending a church, but has not met many people. She longs to have meaningful and intentional relationships with other women at her new church. She also wishes to create a Bible study group with new friends to not only meet new women but also grow in her faith.

Jade Collins is 26 years old, married to her high school sweetheart, and lives in Spokane, Washington. She is a freelance wedding photographer who travels across the U.S. Jade loves to spend time with family and friends when she is home and loves to explore new places while traveling. She enjoys grabbing coffee with friends, grabbing a pizza with her husband, and serving on her church’s worship team. Jade loves waking up early in the mornings to spend time in the word. She wants to help her sister grow in her relationship with the Lord by doing a study with her. Instead of asking her sister to buy a study, Jade wants to be able to gift her sister all she needs to go through a Bible study either on her own or with her.

PRINT MAGAZINE Page Layout, Photo Manipulation
Project Scope Design a four-page magazine spread for an edition of Print Magazine. Include the required article and also include a secondary article related to the topic. The spread must include at least one sidebar and can also use visual illustrations, images, pull quotes, etc. Any photography chosen must be royalty-free, free stock imagery. Also, create a Photoshop composite for the cover of the magazine spread.
Project Brief The “Why We Need to Create AI that Thinks in Ways that We Can’t Even Imagine” magazine spread is simple and clean, tying back to AI and its simplicity. Throughout the spread, various tints of blues are used to give the spread visual interest and help create hierarchy. Sans serif typefaces are used throughout the spread to increase readability. Every photo was intentionally chosen because they relate to AI and technology. The photoshop composite showcases various images and textures that further tie back into the technology theme of the spread. The cover includes the composite and the title of the magazine, as well as other required information.
CATAWBA FARMS CRAFT BEER LABELS Illustration, Layout, Production
Project Scope Utilize knowledge of design theory, advanced design practices, color theory, and a solid understanding of typography to create a craft beer design series for The Brewery at Catawba Farms. The labels must allow the craft beer cans to stand alone but also have a visual relationship as a larger series. Produce beer can labels, interchangeable tap pull design, a tap pull prototype, and additional marketing items. Complete a collateral photoshoot to showcase all branded assets and collateral. This project was completed in a group setting.
Project Brief The beer can series design is modern and simple, utilizing repeating elements among the series to tie each can together. A rolling hill element is implemented across all cans to highlight the location of Catawba Farms in the Catawba Valley. The icon on each can represents the story behind each beer. The rough, textured primary typeface adds a rustic twist to the overall modern design. The prototyped draft pull is wooden, with an encased slot that holds the interchangeable piece. At the bottom of the draft pull, The Brewery at Catawba Farms is burned into the wood to add a rustic, personal look.
SLOUCHLESS Branding, UX/UI Design, User Testing
Project Scope Research and develop a unique app concept and design an interface that is functional and visually pleasing to best fit the concept. The app should solve a specific problem and be designed with the end-user of the app in mind.
Project Brief The app is a multi-step development that encompasses research into user experiences, personas, and ideation. Slouchless is an app created to challenge users to maintain correct posture throughout their day. The target audience of Slouchless is men and women between the ages of 20 to 50 years old. The clean design of Slouchless helps users understand how to navigate successfully through the app. The logo includes five vertebrae at the center to represent posture, while the decreasing line around the outer portion of the circle represents the timer portion of the app. The bright, complementary color palette of blue and orange adds visual contrast to the app, helping it be accessible to both users who are colorblind and who have full-color vision. The icons within the bottom navigation bar are simple and straightforward.
Cindy Grey, 43 Cindy wants to be able to interact with her students on the playground and run around with her boys at home for as long as she can. Recently, Cindy has noticed that her back and neck have been hurting her. As the pain has progressed, she has realized that she has been slouching while teaching and sitting at her desk grading papers. Cindy has tried to remember to correct her posture throughout the day but is often unable to due to the hustle and bustle of the classroom. Cindy wants to be reminded to check her posture throughout the day. She also wants to be able to feel like she has accomplished something.
Peter Sullivan, 32 Peter spends most of his time sitting either at his computer or in meetings throughout the week. Recently, he has noticed that his back is sore when he stands. Peter wants to be able to correct his posture throughout the day during breaks between meetings. He also wants to be able to keep his back in shape to keep exploring different places along the east coast. Peter loves challenging himself and actively strives to achieve his goals.
Vanessa Diaz, 20 Vanessa loves cinematography but often finds her neck being stiff after working on her computer for hours on end. She has realized that whenever she is editing her videos that she is not sitting with correct posture. Vanessa also has started to slouch when standing behind the camera for long periods. She wants to be able to maintain correct posture throughout the day when she has short breaks between classes. Vanessa also loves overcoming challenges, whether it be in her work or on her health. She wants to able to enjoy what she does without having to worry about any discomfort from sitting or standing for long periods.

THE FROG PRINCE Photo Manipulation, Layout
Project Scope Choose a fairytale and theme. Rewrite portions of the fairytale to match the chosen theme in your own words. Collect at least 15 royalty-free photos to create three Photoshop composites. Utilize various tools and techniques to create composites related to the chosen theme. Create a cover for the storybook composites.
Project Brief The Frog Prince is a well-known fairytale about a frog helping a princess and in-turn getting turned back into a prince. The portions of the story that were reworked include the frog giving the princess her ball back, the princess running back to the castle, and the moment the spiteful fairy turned the prince into a frog. The first step in creating the composites was creating the background. Each photo was blended together effectively using adjustment layers. Various blending modes were also used throughout each composite to create a consistent look.
A HUI HOU — UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN Digital Painting
Project Scope Collect 5 related photographs to use as reference photos for colors, size, shapes, and textures. Sketch a detailed version of the digital painting in analog or digital form. Utilize Adobe Photoshop to create the digital painting.
Project Brief The digital painting is a tropical scene painted in a realistic style. The main elements seen in the painting include palm trees, a surfboard, and a mountainous island. Varying colors were used to add depth to the painting and to give it a realistic look. The digital painting was created using a Wacom tablet and various brushes in Adobe Photoshop.
TRU MATCH Branding, Packaging, Production
Project Scope Create a brand design and packaging for two products in a series. Research the product’s required labels and information for the packaging design. Create die lines and produce each box. Display the brand for the products in a style guide and create a digital and print ad series for the products.
Project Brief Tru Match is a candle company located in Tempe, Arizona. The product line is based upon the Enneagram personality test and features customized candles based upon each enneagram number. The primary focal point of the logo is a lit match at the center of the logo. The color palette for Tru Match is made up of dark, rich colors, each corresponding to the enneagram numbers. The secondary element further ties in the celestial theme of the company with the use of stars and the match, as well as a hand element to add visual interest. The primary pattern for Tru Match is the Tru to You pattern, made up of stars and moons. Each box includes the scent of the candle, a quote from a public figure, and information about each enneagram number. The inside of each box is black with the pattern shown on top. The name and number of the enneagram candle are shown on the inside of the box as well.

GEORGIA — TYPE SPECIMEN POSTER Page Layout, Animation
Project Scope Create a type specimen poster for either a serif or sans-serif typeface of your choice. The typeface must be well-known and have history. The poster must contain researched information about the typeface designer on the poster. The letterform characteristics themselves must constitute the “imagery” of the poster. Also, create an animated interactive version of the poster.
Project Brief Georgia was created in 1993 by Matthew Carter as a serif companion to the sans-serif typeface Verdana. An analogous and monochromatic color palette is used to create balance within the composition. Each font family was implemented to create hierarchy. Emphasis was added to the date not only by using color but also by using Georgia Bold Italic to add visual contrast between each individual block of text. The unique characteristics of Georgia are seen by the use of the golden color and descriptions are included beside the letters. Adobe Animate was used to create the interactive version of the type specimen poster. Viewers can hover their cursor over the highlighted sections in gold to reveal the type anatomy information.
AGD REBRAND Branding, Production
Project Scope Create a branded identity package for the Advertising + Graphic Design program at Catawba Valley Community College. Produce branded collateral, including a promotional poster. Create at least two mocked up spaces and at least one demonstration of an environmental graphic. This project was completed in a group setting.
Project Brief The primary logo went through various revisions before being completely reconstructed. The new logo is clean and modern and uses gradients to add depth to the logomark. The new color palette for the branding plays off of the legendary lime green seen throughout the current space. To continue to stay consistent with the current colors used in the space, a bright teal color was added to the overall color palette. A darker gray was also added to provide contrast to all branded elements. Various collateral pieces were created to be placed into mail-out packages. Collateral pieces included branded masks, stickers, buttons, and t-shirts. Visual mockups of the various spaces were created to showcase new branded elements throughout.
WATTSON ELECTRIC COMPANY Branding, Web Design, Animation
Project Scope Demonstrate an understanding of visual branding and identity systems through the creation of a new company. Observe and illustrate a household object. Graphically reduce the object to its simplest form. Create an animated version of the logo. Also, create a microsite related to the company.
Project Brief Wattson Electric Company is a solar electric company located in Jacksonville, Florida. The Wattson Electric Company logo is a lightbulb with a lightning bolt within the bulb. Two different sans-serif typefaces were used in the logotype to create balance within the design. The color palette consists of Lightning Gold and Wattson Navy. The animated logo shows the logomark and logotype flickering on and off, and then finally fully illuminated and glowing. The microsite highlights facts about solar energy and its benefits to the environment.

Project Scope Fully conceptualize and develop a discover local event. Produce a brand identity for the event. Produce a branded event poster that includes an illustrated map of the location. Create a set of icons related to the event. Produce two additional promotional items related to the discover local event.
Project Brief The Port City Spirit is a discover local event along the Cape Fear Riverwalk in historic downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. The event pays homage to Wilmington’s nickname, the Port City. The primary logo hints back to Wilmington’s nickname and includes a sailboat, the sun, and three seagulls. The sailboat ties back into the name, the sun adds a warm element, and the three seagulls represent the three beaches surrounding Wilmington: Wrightsville Beach, Carolina Beach, and Kure Beach. The map for the event is inspired by the coastal culture of the city of Wilmington. Each stop included in the event is emphasized on the map with the Deep Coastal Teal color that is also tied into the names along the side of the poster.
