EIRYN’S 6 WEEKS TO A STRONGER YOU

Mark it on your calendars, Eiryn is starting up a new group couching program on March 20th! This will be a virtual program fit for both beginners + people looking to get back into exercising!

This Mother’s Day brings new complexity for me First, it presents a renewed appreciation for my mom. An 8 year breast cancer survivor herself, she spent the better part of the last year as my caretaker while I underwent intensive chemotherapy and surgery for a rare pediatric/AYA (adolescent young adult) cancer called Ewing’s sarcoma. I can’t imagine getting through treatment without her support.

Second, it carries some new heaviness. Due to a lengthy delay in my cancer diagnosis and the aggressive nature of Ewing’s sarcoma, I chose not to freeze my eggs before jumping into 10 months of chemotherapy. The chemo I received was extremely strong 14 rounds of 5 different drugs and often leaves women infertile. At just 32, I am facing the reality that I may not be able to have biological children. The idea of never celebrating Mother’s Day the way I always imagined is overwhelming

Lastly, this Mother’s Day I am thinking of those who have lost their moms. A good friend of mine who I met while we were both undergoing Ewing’s treatment died suddenly last month from the disease. She left behind a 5-year-old son. This will be his first in a lifetime of Mother’s Days without his mama. Those of us who still have our moms in our lives are so fortunate; it is a privilege and not a given. Happy Mother’s Day to us all — children of fierce mamas, and moms and mother figures of all kinds. And for those who don’t have a positive (or any) relationship with their moms, I see you too. Sending loving energy to everyone in this season.
