The Crown Hills group began by challenging themselves with devising their own show this year. Inspired by the poem I Come From by Dean Atta and The Ghost Teacher by Allan Ahlberg. They asked questions and explored ideas from both and identified that we come from the stories that stay with you, the ones that pull you in, keep you guessing, and refuse to let you go.
Through their voices, thoughts, and imagination, we discovered that so many of us come from mystery, the thrill of not knowing and the urge to find out whodunnit! And so, SCISSORS, SCREAMS AND SUSPECTS was born.
What you are about to witness is a plot with twists and turns and plenty of suspects. A crime with determined detectives and questionable suspects and, the truth? Well, the truth is somewhere in this room, possibly, waiting to be solved!
This year the young people have pushed themselves further than before, leaning into imagination and creativity through the devising process. The suspense and tension within this mystery will unravel in real time, and the choices you see on stage belong to them, their story, shaped together.
A huge thank you to my assistant practitioner/ director Sneya Rajani, Mrs Thurnbull and Mrs Bradbury for your support and thought throughout this process.
And to the brilliant cast, thank you for trusting the process, showing up with your crazy and fun ideas, which you approached with courage every single week. You have worked so hard, and I am incredibly proud of what you have achieved. You should be too!
Now, pay attention. Everyone is a suspect. Can you guess whodunnit before it’s revealed?
