DON’T PLAY WITH FIRE - you never know if it’s listening… remembering… learning your stories.
It has been a truly special year working at Herewoode Academy. We spent one term with Year 7 students and another with Year 8, and this final group brings a select few from each year together- a talented mix especially chosen for their skill, energy, and enthusiasm.
The group have only been creating this piece together since Easter, and we are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved during this time.
The starting point for this production was the idea of ghostly school stories — those chilling tales often shared around a campfire. From this, the concept for our show was born. Rather than working from a script, we encouraged them to explore the devising process, lines of dialogue were introduced piece by piece, with performers learning not only their own words, but understanding how to pick up their cues from others, chorus speaking and the overall sequence of the entire story. Their commitment as an ensemble and focus made this process a real success.
A special thank you to Rebekah Heathcote for her dedicated work with the young people - taking the time to understand their unique qualities and bringing the story to life, particularly through physical theatre.
Thank you to Jack Stark who has brought the final piece together for their last few rehearsals.
And thank you to Miss Poxon and Miss Woods for their consistent support. We have all seen these wonderful young people grow in confidence, and they are now ready for their final show.
Congratulations, year 7 and 8, I’m so proud of you and I hope you carry on with your acting journeys in the future.
