Castle Mead

This year all our CYCC sessions have been focused on devising, and tonight’s performance is the outcome of those explorations. Presenting a variety of issues and topics that will make you think, question, laugh and drive you to be moved by their insight and interpretation.
An opportunity for the theatre makers of today and the future to voice their opinions about imagination, entertainment, life, social media, identity, growing up, politics and the world we live in.
Told creatively with humour, movement, comedy, song, drama and engaging techniques that will have you on the edge of your seats. Are you ready for CYCC and the young talent on our stages!
Well done everyone!
We hope you enjoy the show and seeing their ideas realised on stage.

“The supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material considered to be trivial or unchallenging.”
Or, in plain English: your brain going to mush from too much scrolling. Sound familiar?
We hadn’t heard the term ourselves until the scholars introduced it to us, during a free writing exercise that cracked open a conversation we haven’t been able to stop having since. Therefore, it feels like the right place to start.
Our fictional school of BRAIN ROT ACADEMY explores a host of vibrant characters created by the group, which includes scholars who have something to say. Coupled with another perspective from fiercely passionate parents and teachers who shrug and sigh at a generation they’ve already written off.
We are so proud to be working with Castle Mead and delighted to be welcoming you all to Curve. A brilliant group of young people who have chosen to challenge themselves by being kind, silly, brave and have fun working with us every Tuesday. We have seen each one of them find their wings and fly, putting what they’ve learnt into practice, far beyond the expectations of the rehearsal room, and staying true their own schools’ values.
We wish to thank Mrs Frost for giving up her time to host us after school each week.
So, before the moral panic takes hold, we’d like to leave you with a question. In a world more connected than ever — where young people navigate global news, build empathy across borders, and solve problems at speed — who, exactly, is rotting whose brain? Maybe the antidote to the noise isn’t less screen time.
