BETWEEN WEBBER AND SONDHEIM For our 10 to 13 company, this year took a different and more exploratory turn. While we initially considered staging a licensed production, overlapping choices with local theatres led us to rethink and ultimately embrace a more creative, performer-led approach. What followed became one of the most rewarding processes of the year.

Focusing on the work of Stephen Sondheim and Andrew Lloyd Webber, we explored devising as a central practice. The performers have taken real ownership of their work, shaping material through their own ideas, choreography, staging, harmonies, and interpretations. Rather than being directed into fixed outcomes, they have been encouraged to question, experiment, and build each moment from the ground up.

This showcase brings together songs from across both composers’ work, celebrating the contrast in style, theme, and storytelling that defines their writing. Each piece has been developed through collaboration, allowing the performers to connect more deeply with the material and with one another.

What you will see tonight is not just a performance, but the result of a process rooted in curiosity, risk, and creative independence. It has been a privilege to watch this group grow in confidence, step into ownership, and truly make the work their own.

CURVE YOUNG COMMUNITY COMPANY Our Curve Young Community Company (CYCC) is for young people aged 5 – 19 years with an interest and passion for performing arts.

Our members meet regularly at Curve to develop their skills, have fun, make new friends, and develop their understanding of the industry alongside professional artists and creative teams. Participants also have the opportunity to perform on our stages in productions and be involved in special events at Curve and as part of our Made at Curve productions. Our Curve Youth and Community Companies (CYCC) are open to all and there are opportunities for every level of experience.
