Council reviews proposal, elects officers By Jessica Todd jessica@youarecurrent.com The Noblesville Common Council reviewed a proposed 55-and-older residential development and elected 2026 officers at its Dec. 16 meeting. The council also recognized employees who have served the City of Noblesville for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years. The next common council meeting is at 6 p.m. Jan. 13, 2026, at City Hall, 16 S. 10th St.  WHAT HAPPENED: The council heard introductory information regarding The Courtyards at Deer Creek, a proposed 55-andolder residential development on approximately 80 acres north of 158th Street and east of Olio Road.  WHAT IT MEANS: The development is proposed by Epcon Communities. It would feature courtyard homes similar to those being built at The Courtyards at Hazel Dell. The Courtyards at Deer Creek would be an HOA maintained, low-maintenance community that would offer lawn maintenance and snow removal for all homes. Home values would range from $450,000 to $1 million, and each home would feature one of Epcon’s branded courtyard spaces.  WHAT’S NEXT: A vote wasn’t taken. The development will go before the Noblesville Plan Commission next year before returning to the council for a final vote. Council member Todd Thurston said while he is not totally against the development, he is okay to slow down, saying the city has nearly 5,000 approved units that haven’t been constructed yet. Council member Mark Boice said the council has approved several 55-and-older communities and is hesitant about another one.

DISPATCH  Hamilton County Community Foundation receives $6 million — The Hamilton County Community Foundation has received a grant of $6 million from Lilly Endowment Inc., through the Community Support Grant component of the ninth phase of its Giving Indiana Funds for Tomorrow initiative. The Community Support Grant provides the community foundation with flexible funding to enhance its grantmaking capacity to address near-term needs in the county. The community foundation will have up to three years to use its grant to address community-driven priorities. HCCF will use the first quarter of 2026 to develop a regranting strategy informed by its recent community needs assessment and strategic plan.

Toy giveaway makes impact news@currentnoblesville.com As part of the 16th annual statewide Big Toy Giveaway, Pacers Sports & Entertainment and JAKKS Pacific Toys partnered with the City of Noblesville to provide toys to local families and children in need. The toy distribution took place Dec. 12 at the Boys & Girls Club of Noblesville with appearances by players and coaches from the Noblesville Boom, their mascot, Bobby the Bobcat, the Indiana Pacemates and Indiana Pacers mascot, Boomer. “We are grateful to Pacers Sports & Entertainment Owner Herb Simon and the entire organization, along with JAKKS Pacific Toys, for partnering with the City of Noblesville to give back to families in our community and across Indiana,” Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen stated. “It’s great to see the impact of this toy giveaway and the smiles on the kids’ faces.” Since its launch in 2009, the Big Toy Giveaway has been fueled by Stephen Berman, founder and CEO of JAKKS Pacific Toys, and his long-standing

Braun talks business at OneZone luncheon By Leila Kheiry leila@youarecurrent.com Indiana Gov. Mike Braun told area business owners Dec. 10 that Indiana’s geographic location, business-friendly environment and fiscal health give the Hoosier state a leg up to maintaining its economic viability. Braun was the special guest during the OneZone Chamber annual meeting and luncheon, and spoke for about 30 minutes with OneZone President and CEO Jack Russell in front of a crowd of chamber members at the FORUM Event Center in Fishers. Braun said that while Indiana has great opportunities, leaders still need to put in the work to make sure the state benefits. He added that he wants the business community to step up, and not rely on state government to solve everything. “Businesses are going to be the main beneficiaries of child care. They’re going to be the main beneficiaries of preschool,” he said, adding that he wants the business community to be involved in creating and financing solutions to

those kinds of needs. “That’s kind of what I preach. I want to make sure that government is doing everything it can, short of paying for it, when the beneficiaries are going to be clearly Main Street and bigger companies.” Braun said Hamilton County is one of the state’s success stories, economically, but there are other counties that are struggling. “You need to keep doing what you’re doing,” he said. “Help us see how we

can get more counties to take what you’ve got that’s working, and then I’m always going to be a business partner with you to make sure you keep heading in the direction that you seem to have done pretty well on your own.” He said energy is and will be the big issue moving forward, driven by the need for data centers. He said the amount of energy one center needs surprised him. “When you start hearing megawatts,

gigawatts — and one data center can take one gigawatt of electricity,” he said. “I wondered how many gigawatts are we producing? I figured, just by common sense, surely one data center couldn’t be more than 1 percent. I was astounded — we only produce 20 gigawatts of electricity for all households and existing businesses (in Indiana).” Braun said he wants the state to keep utility rates low for residents but also find a way to bring data centers to rural areas that need the potential economic boost. He also wants the business community and state government to work well together. “Businesses are the places where you create things — that’s where all the new stuff comes from,” he said. “And then government’s got to be smart — smart enough to nurture it and not suffocate it.” OneZone Chamber serves Carmel, Fishers and northern Hamilton County. Student supports Ukrainian women, children

He raised funds for Noblesville-based Mission to Ukraine, a nonprofit that serves children with disabilities and women in crisis or facing unplanned pregnancies in Ukraine. Reese’s sisterin-law, Katie Gheen, is the associate director of the Christian organization. Reese, 20, decided to use the Giving Tuesday challenge to raise funds for the nonprofit. The Cicero resident, a junior at Indiana University Indianapolis majoring in philanthropic leadership, used the Westfield High School track to run a 1/4-mile lap or more for each donation. “Anyone who donated during that time I would run a lap for that donation,” he said. “If you donated at a certain level, I would run more laps. If someone donated $20, I would run two laps. It varied, but a majority of people gave about $5, so I ran a lap. I ended up running 108 laps, or 27 miles.” Reese, who raised $1,890 from 72 donors, said he started at 8 a.m. and didn’t finish until 2:30 a.m. Dec. 4. The fundraising project was for one of Reese’s classes. He has volunteered for Mission to Ukraine in the past, so this was a natural fit along with the family connection. Katie has been with Mission to Ukraine for nearly three years. Mission to Ukraine raised nearly $27,000 through Giving Tuesday, which was doubled by a matching gift by a private donor. HSE senior girls basketball player keeps growing game By Mark Ambrogi mark@youarecurent.com Hamilton Southeastern High School senior basketball player Kayla Stidham was faced with a difficult decision. The 6-foot Stidham chose to transfer from the New Palestine school system to HSE in eighth grade. “I wouldn’t be where I am without HSE,” she said. “It has helped me grow as a person and player. It was also one of the hardest decisions leaving everything I knew to start something brand new, but it was one of the best decisions I’ve made.” Stidham, who will play for Bowling Green State University next season, is averaging 14.9 points and a teamhigh 7.1 rebounds per game through 11 games for the Royals (9-2). She averaged 10.5 ppg last season and 11.9 ppg as a sophomore. “My individual goals are to continue doing the little things like rebounding and diving for loose balls,” Stidham said. “As a team, I hope we are able to make another run. We have a lot of young girls who all work super hard and

HSE coach Brian Satterfield said Stidham has improved in several areas throughout her high school career. “She has become a more well-rounded player,” he said. “When she first joined the program, she was mainly an offensive threat. This year, she leads the team in rebounds and has recorded four

double-doubles so far. Her improvement defensively has also been a huge plus for our team.” Stidham is shooting 38 percent from the field, including 31 percent from 3-point range. She shot 43 percent overall and 40 percent on 3-pointers last season. Satterfield said opponents are focusing more on Stidham and Kennedy Holman this season with the graduation of top scorer Maya Makulusky, the 2025 Indiana Miss Basketball. “In the past, the defense would focus on Maya, and that allowed Kayla to get better quality looks,” he said. “Kayla

has begun to get a better feel for this and has slowly been bringing up her percentages. She hasn’t settled for just jump shots and has been aggressive going to the rim and the basket. With these improvements, she made it more challenging for someone to guard her.” Stidham said her biggest improvement has been in becoming a more complete player, not simply a shooter. “I’ve been working on being more physical and getting to the basket while also working on the defensive end,” she said. Her leadership ability has grown as well. “Helping the underclassmen work through the struggles and stresses that come in high school has been a big point — not just on the court, but also off the court,” she said. Stidham’s mother, Lisa Shepherd-Stidham, was the 1997 Indiana Miss Basketball from Richmond High School. The former Penn State University player was inducted into Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame in 2023. Stidham said she always had a goal of being an Indiana All-Star.

Personal trainer recognized for innovative business model

“I’ve hurt my knee before, I’ve hurt my back, and she gave me alternative things to do,” Bowers said. “We had one class where she had all these stations set up, and she had everything I could do on a different piece of paper specific to me and my injury. Talk about going above and beyond.” Franciosi plans to continue creating community through fitness, saying her recent recognition is a reflection of the work she’s done locally. “The community and the longevity of (these) programs is really the heart of what I do and love,” Franciosi said.

Franciosi, 55, started her mobile fitness business, Franciosi Fitness and Medical LLC, in 2002. She travels to high schools, gyms and parks to teach exercise classes. The business also has a Franciosi medical division that covers sports tournaments by providing athletic trainers. “In a nutshell, we are a one-stop shop for providing all-around professional, certified mobile health and wellness,” Franciosi said. “We bring our services to you.” Franciosi was recognized last month for her business, placing third in the International Small Fitness Business Woman of the Year competition in Antigua. She was nominated by her staff. “The recognition is part of a broader professional conference that highlights long-standing contributions to health and wellness,” Franciosi said. “To me, the recognition really reflects the longevity and consistency of the work being done with my classes.” Franciosi, a personal trainer, said the selection process during the summer included an international field of several hundred nominees. She said placing third was humbling. “It was honestly a bit surreal,” Franciosi said. “The placement itself mattered far less to me than what it represented — decades of work centered around people, not podiums. There wasn’t a monetary prize; the recognition was the acknowledgment itself. I immediately thought about the people I train. They’re the reason any of this exists.” Tammy Leatherberry, who trains with Franciosi at Noblesville High School, said the recognition is well deserved. “Personal trainers and fitness classes are not that difficult to find,” Leather-

berry said. “A quick internet search will yield dozens of options within a 10-mile radius. What is not as easy to find is someone who will train your body but also take the time to get to know you personally. Building a gym and a business is common. Building a community of people who enjoy working out together and genuinely care about each other — that is uncommon. Over the past 30 years, that is exactly what Trish Franciosci has done, and she has done it well.” Franciosi teaches fitness classes at NHS on Mondays and Wednesdays. In the summer, the group exercises at local parks. “My fitness classes are very community-driven,” said Franciosi, a Ball State University graduate. “We contract with all of our facilities making it easier on our clients. The classes are structured, challenging and adaptive, but what truly defines them is the consistency and relationships.” Franciosi, who grew up in Noblesville and now lives in Carmel, said she start-

ed her business because she saw a need for programming that meets people where they are. “Over time, the classes became just as much about showing up for one another as they are about workouts,” Franciosi said. “We’ve celebrated milestones together and supported each other through some very hard seasons. That sense of community is what keeps people coming back.” Noblesville resident Diann Bowers, who has been training with Franciosi for more than 20 years, said at 65, she is in the best shape of her life. “I was looking for a workout class, and found it through the parks department,” Bowers said. “Every class is different. You don’t get bored. You are pushed, but to your physical abilities. She has a huge business and teaches so many classes, and you would never know it because she puts so much thought into every class.” Bowers said Franciosi also helps athletes modify workouts when they have injuries.

Fitness has always been a part of in Trish Franciosi’s life. “What truly drew me in was the connection aspect — how movement brings people together,” Franciosi said. Franciosi was active in sports as a child. She said turning it into a career evolved organically when she began teaching high-low and step aerobics as a teenager and into college, where she obtained a degree in business. “While teaching at Ball State, I was unexpectedly asked to work with football players, which sparked my love for training athletes,” Franciosi said. “Over the years, I’ve worked with a wide range of populations, from youth sports to collegiate and professional athletes.” As she’s gotten older, Franciosi said she has learned the importance of working within a niche and surrounding herself with trainers who can serve different populations well. “What continues to excite me most is helping people and communities feel stronger, more confident and more connected through movement,” Franciosi said.

The west side of Noblesville is becoming a destination for new businesses. New shops, including Nothing Bundt Cakes, Swig and Noble Wine & Spirits, are part of Midland Pointe, a 34-acre, mixed-use development that aims to enhance Noblesville’s western gateway and energize the area near the Midland Trace Trail, a paved trail that connects Westfield with Noblesville. Staff at Noble Wine & Spirits, which offers a wide selection of fine wine, premium liquor and craft beer, celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Dec. 12. It is the business’ second Noblesville store. The other is at 2209 Conner St. “It’s doing great,” store manager Tasha Coomer said. Coomer said the new store is part of a plan to expand into southern Indiana. Coomer, who previously managed the Conner Street store, is now running the Midland Pointe store. Coomer said Nothing Bundt Cakes, a bakery franchise, and Swig, a soda shop known for its soft drinks with mix-ins, also recently opened in Midland Pointe,

which is bringing more business to the liquor store. Nothing Bundt Cakes opened at the end of November. Swig launched a soft opening Dec. 3, and held its grand opening Dec. 19-20. Award-winning Carmel musician stays busy with songwriting, performing By Mark Ambrogi mark@youarecurrent.com Singer-songwriter Tay Bronson likes to have fun with his songs. The 54-year-old Carmel resident, who describes his style as traditional country, released a new single Nov. 19 called “Golf Cart” that is available on all streaming platforms. The song is a tongue-in-cheek ode to a rolling neighborhood parade of golf carts. There is a music video on Bronson’s YouTube channel. Bronson’s song idea came from visiting his girlfriend’s permanent campsite at Indian Lakes in northern Indiana. “It’s more like Indian ponds because they are tiny little lakes,” he said. “It’s like glamping and people are driving around on golf carts. Having my cynical sense of humor, I got up one morning and I didn’t want to use the toy hauler bathroom, so I went to the bathroom and there’s a lot of golf carts lined up with dads doing the same thing I was doing.” Bronson sent a text message to his girlfriend about his situation and the different types of golf carts. Then he decided to turn it into a song. “The song killed it at the campground, so I had to make a video that is just as funny as the song,” Bronson said, Bronson had friends from the campground follow him around. “I was acting like a goofball on the back of the golf cart playing the song,” he said. Besides the recent release, Bronson’s 2024 album, “Bad Apple,” was named the Male Album of the Year in August at the International Singer-Songwriter Association Awards ceremony in Atlanta. “It’s kind of like the minor leagues to the Country Music Awards or Grammys,” he said. “I was tickled pink to have my album recognized as Album of

the Year. There are 35,000 members in the organization.” Bronson’s band is called Tay Bronson and the Tackle Box. The band includes keyboardist Jason Barth and drummer Matt DeVore, both Carmel residents, who were previously Push Down & Turn with Bronson. Bronson, Barth and DeVore own Carmel-based Premier Group, a home automation company, which they started in 1999. “We were thinking if we start our own business, we can work four days a week and still have gigs on the weekend with Push Down & Turn,” Bronson said. Bronson was the primary songwriter and bassist for Push Down & Turn, an alternative rock band, “We formed the band (in 1991) when we were at school at DePauw University,” he said. “We had a run of like 10 years. We had a bus and we would load up and keep rolling. We sounded like Matchbox Twenty and Counting Crows or something like that.” Bronson compared touring life to being in the Army.

“We would go to the gig, and they would feed us and give us beer and you weren’t spending money,” he said. Band members would return to their homes and realize they weren’t making that much money. Push Down & Turn was on the HORDE — Horizons of Rock Developing Everywhere — Tour in 1997. “We won a spot through a Battle of Bands and we got five dates on the tour,” Bronson said. “There were different bands, but the main headliner was Neil Young and Crazy Horse.” The Push Down & Turn hasn’t played regularly since 2003, but it performed a reunion show at The Vogue Theatre in Indianapolis in 2016. ‘“We were going to try to do a reunion show every few years, but that got put on the back burner,” he said. The Tackle Box also includes bassist Scott Nelson and pedal steel player Joe Alterio. Bronson also performs smaller singer-songwriter concerts.
