Pedestrian bridge plans modified

By Desiree Williams news@currentzionsville.com Plans to construct a pedestrian bridge on Main Street have been modified. The Street and Stormwater Dept. prePATHWAY viously planned to build a separate bridge structure but have altered the plans to include modifying the vehicular bridge crossing Eagle Creek to accommodate a walking path on either side of the road.

The project would eliminate the center turn lane on the bridge and narrow the remaining two lanes to allow for a 10-foot, multi-use pathway on both sides rather than only on the west side of Main Street.

Lance Lantz, superintendent of the depart-

ment, said the plans were changed after evaluating the project to determine the best and most efficient way to provide walkability between the old downtown and the new South Street Village developments.

“We had originally anticipated a pedestrian bridge being right around $1 million,” Lantz said. “We believe that this alternative is going to be somewhere in the 50 percent to 75 percent (range) of that cost. So, not only does it better serve the area, but it is definitely a cost savings.”

The project is in the design phase. After completion, the design will be presented to the county engineer for approval. Lantz said he wants to start construction this summer and have the bridge ready for use by late fall.

4th Street drainage project delayed

By Desiree Williams news@currentzionsville.com The 4th Street drainage improvement project hit a standstill because of an error by AT&T. INFRASTRUCTURE The project is in a redesign phase after AT&T incorrectly specified the measurements of its underground duct bank, which conflicts with the intended location of the new storm sewer.

Lance Lantz, superintendent of the Zionsville Street and Stormwater Dept., said the department could have moved the duct bank, but that wasn’t practical because of its size and necessary labor. Instead, the department

will redesign the pipe’s route to avoid issues with the duct bank.

Lantz said the additional cost and time delay are being determined, but he estimates a three-week delay.

The project includes replacing old and undersized pipes with modern ones to reduce localized flooding. Phase 1 concluded in 2017 after pipes were replaced from the south end of 4th Street to Hawthorne Street. Phase 2 is in progress and will cover Hawthorne Street to Pine Street.

Lantz said the project should be complete in a few months and that cost estimates – as well as who will pay for the revisions — are not yet known.

Smoking ordinance vote delayed

By Anna Skinner • anna@youarecurrent.com The Town of Zionsville is working to tighten its smoking ordinance, but an expected vote at the TOWN COUNCIL March 19 town council meeting was delayed because Deputy Mayor Ed Mitro said the revisions still need work.

“We want to take one last look at the ordinance itself,” Mitro said. “The way it is worded now you cannot smoke on town property, not just within the building, which presents a challenge for places like fire stations.”

Under the wording of the proposed ordinance, the exterior of a fire station is

considered town property. Mitro said as an ex-smoker, he understands it is difficult for smokers to make it through 24 hours without smoking. Many members of the Zionsville Fire Dept. work 24-hour shifts.

Council member Tom Schuler asked if the ordinance excluded smoking on town streets and sidewalks.

“It should not include right-of-way. It includes park property, town hall property, municipal services buildings,” Mitro said.

“It would be almost impossible to (exclude smoking) on sidewalks and streets.”

The council is expected to revisit the matter at its 7 p.m. April 9 meeting at Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 W. Oak St.

Egg hunt coming to Lions Park

By Maria Cook news@currentzionsville.com More than 18,000 eggs will be hidden in Lions Park March 31 for the annual EGGnormous Egg Hunt, hosted by the EASTER Zionsville Lions Club and the 2018 Partners in the Park.

Breakfast will be available starting at 9 a.m. for all guests who make a donation to the park.

Starting at 10 a.m., children ages 2 and younger will be guided around the park’s Heffner gazebo to hunt for eggs.

Egg hunting begins at 10:30 a.m. for children 3 to 4; at 10:35 a.m. for children 5 to 6; and at 10:40 a.m. for children 7 and older.

Pre-registration is not required.

“Other than a donation for breakfast, it is 100 percent free to participate,” said Mike Heffner, chair of the egg hunt committee.

“We fill 18,000 eggs for this event and work very hard to make it a fun morning for all the kids that attend.”

Construction is under way on Third Street storm sewer improvements.

Calumet Civil Contractors, Inc. will replace aging and undersized storm sewers between Oak and Walnut streets.

Additionally, storm sewers will be replaced on Cedar Street between Second Street just north and south of Cedar Street. The project is expected to be complete in the spring.

In the market for T-shirt ideas

By Heather Lusk • news@currentzionsville.com Witty food puns have been the trademark of Zionsville Farmers Market T-shirts.

Now, organizers are asking the public to create a design in an inauguCONTEST ral contest for the market.

Although food and humor have been the basis of previous shirts, submitted ideas can have any perspective.

“If it embraces Zionsville, we don’t have anything like that,” said Sara Martini, Zionsville Farmers Market market master.

Martini said the shirts can be targeted to adults, children or both. There are more than a dozen shirt designs for sale. Many others have been retired through the years.

Martini said some of the less popular designs will be retired.

“We’re trying to scale back and have a more limited selection,” she said.

Generally, one new T-shirt design has been added every year.

Shirt designs have previously been suggested by volunteers. Selling T-shirts was started almost a decade ago by the Zionsville Farmers Market board to raise funds for advertising and promote events like strawberry shortcake day and free give-

We don’t give a darn Commentary by Ward Degler Even as I did it, something seemed wrong. I had just thrown away a pair of socks because they had PLAIN TALK holes in the heels. My work shoes, the ones I wear to grub around in the garden, spread mulch or pull weeds, have a leather ridge at the heels that wears through my socks.

There is nothing unusual in that. The shoes and boots I had as a kid did the same thing. The difference between then and now is that back then we didn’t toss the holey socks. Mom darned them, and we continued to wear them until they could no longer be repaired.

For anyone who hasn’t a clue what darning is, it’s a process of weaving new fabric to fill a hole in cloth. Every mom, grandmother, aunt or big sister back then had a darning egg in their sewing basket along with needles, thread, patches of different kinds of cloth, thimbles and a cloth tape measure.

Mom’s darning egg resembled a large wooden egg with a handle on one end. She would stick the egg into the sock, expose

the hole and start running her needle and thread back and forth across the hole, first one way, and then the other until a new patch of fabric had filled the hole.

There was another difference between then and now. Today, it was easy for me to go to my sock drawer and pull out another pair to replace the ones I had thrown away.

Back then, I remember having only three pairs of socks: Two day-to-day pairs and one reserved for Sunday.

Today if I need socks, underwear, jeans or shirts, I go buy them. Buying anything back then was difficult. We were still in the grips of the Great Depression and no one had any extra money. Most folks struggled to get by.

We grew and canned much of our own food, and when we bought something, it had to last. When it broke or got a hole in it, we fixed it. Or, in the case of my socks, Mom darned them.

“That’s when I started to build more relationships in the village,” he said, adding he’s enjoyed being in Zionsville more by building business friendships.

“I think we all grow together. The better that they do, the better I do,” he said. “We’re all going to be more successful together than on our own.”

This winter Gosnell partnered with Rush on Main on National Margarita Day to provide a taco bar paired with Bites margarita and tequila options. Gosnell said he’s in constant but casual communication with other business owners to find ways to work together.

“I feel like most people genuinely like each other,” Gosnell said. “In the last five years people have stepped out of the shops and started talking a lot more.

By Heather Lusk • news@currentzionsville.com Encouraging other small business owners is a mission for the owners of Blooms & Linen.

“We’re really big into helping and COVER STORY supporting other female businesses and entrepreneurs,” co-owner Lindsay Lyon said. “We don’t want to be just about ourselves.”

The women’s clothing store’s owners Lyon and Stefanie Childs created Shop and Sip events before they had a retail space as a way for clients to try on clothes in a party setting. It wasn’t until Blooms & Linen moved into a large retail location on Pine Street that their ideas evolved to include more business owners.

“That’s always been our heart, to help our friends that are doing the same thing we are. We know it can be challenging. We’re just really grateful we have the space now that we can do that,” Lyon said.

Empowering other businesses is not unique to Blooms & Linen. Businesses working together has become a common thread in downtown Zionsville.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever come across a merchant in town who didn’t want to help somebody else’s business,” said local photographer Giovanna Mandell, who has lived in Zionsville for 22 years.

When Mandell noticed that the clothing promoted on Lesley Jane’s social media page was worn by young models, she suggested a photo shoot using a variety of local volunteers of various ages and recruited Zionsville Beauty Counter owner Ellie Brown to do the makeup.

Mandell said the connections are a great way for each business to bring their strengths together to improve

“It’s taking different segments of business and putting them together,” she said. “There are so many ways for small businesses to collaborate and share resources to build one another up.”

The power of networking The first Blooms & Linen Girls Night Out in November 2017 featured a variety of businesses from Indianapolis and surrounding areas. In February, the theme centered on women who make their own products, such as art and nut butter.

Gray Violet Weaving was one of the businesses that participated both evenings. Owner Danielle Ewing, a Zionsville resident, creates handmade woolen wall hangings, a business she started last year.

“Surround yourself with people who are on the same journey as you,” she said. “Watching Stefanie (Childs) and Lindsay (Lyon) has been really empowering.”

Through the Girls Night Out, Ewing also made a connection with Bridging Herstory, a company that sends four boxes each year to customers filled with items handmade by female entrepreneurs. Ewing made 170 weavings to be included in the boxes.

‘A sense of community’ When Cobblestone closed for renovations last year, its owners partnered with the owners of Bites by Confectioneiress to offer a string of pop-up dinners and cocktails, in part to test new menu items.

“Creating a sense of community between the business owners helps in cross-promoting each other,” said Victor Gosnell, co-owner of Bites.

Gosnell said it wasn’t until Bites opened a location on Main Street three years ago that he began to explore partnership opportunities.

Besides helping one another, local businesses are often quick to help the community. In the past few weeks, many have organized fundraisers for the family of Boone County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jacob Pickett, who was fatally shot in the line of duty March 2.

“They give so much to our community, it’s a small way to give back to them,” Vargo said.

PetValu raised $5,100 that weekend in a celebration of the K-9 officer’s life through dog washes and raffles.

Boone Village businesses such as Books and Brews, Akard True Value Hardware and Subway donated items for the raffle.

When PetValu first opened, Pickett and his K-9 partner, Brik, offered demonstrations and subsequently frequented the store.

Fundae’s ice cream shop raised $3,100 for the family before officially opening in mid-March, and Kern Brothers donated a portion of a day’s sales to the family.

“It’s humbling, but it’s also so uplifting to see how people are supporting this family,” Zionsville Chamber of Commerce Events Manager Tracy Coussens said. “This type of thing is happening all the time, but people don’t realize it.”

Commentary by Terry Anker As one of the more glorious characters, if in name only, of famed 16th-century English playwright and wicked-smart social commentator William Shakespeare, Dick the Butcher proclaims in the 1591 play “Henry VI”: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.” Disputed for years as to whether Mr. Butcher intended to do away with the ilk of those who’d represented his spouse in a contentious divorce proceeding, or if the line, specifically aimed at corrupt barristers, meant to separate the good from the bad, it is clear that a priority order is being proclaimed and that such an order demands a first and definitive step.

We humans maintain full and complex lives filled with activities. We survive by adroit management of both the critical and the trivial. The simple choice to stand still at a curb to await the expected passing of a coming city bus, while in itself almost absent-minded, would, if improperly executed, significantly change or even end our lives.

If the simple is crucial, could we imagine that the complex is inconsequential?

Sure, one must find balance between these priorities. Yet, is equilibrium sufficient? Can we successfully lead our lives absent strict priorities? What comes first, above all others? Then, is there a second?

Can the second replace the first – even once or only for a moment? No doubt, some priorities will change with the season as others stand immovable in the stream. Still, are we amply informed about the arrangement of our own primacies? Do we follow a plan? If so, what is our strategy? Is it current? Do we order our day to meet its demands? Or, would it be more honest to admit we react as the world comes at us?

Should our priority be getting prioritized?

Am I right? I love my IU HUMOR freshman, but after nine days of G’s non-stop talking and eating, I’m ready for a return to normalcy (history buffs, whose presidential campaign slogan did I just co-opt?).

First of all, the foot traffic here has increased tenfold. Our house has become the place to watch basketball, play video games and bake blackberry pies for apparently all spring breakers in the tri-county area.

This means additional runs to Meijer for milk, Red Baron pizzas and butter, and an everlasting tower of dishes in the kitchen.

Unlike Ike, me no like (boom! I just dropped another iconic election jingle on you!).

We’ve also had to manage several fights over the third car. Though technically G’s, our high school juniors have been using it for work and practice. I’ve suddenly been thrust into carpool mode again, forced to orchestrate pick-up and drop-off times and navigate a ridiculous number of roundabouts. Happy days are not here again.

Finally, of all ours kids, G talks the most, the loudest and the closest. He loves to sidle his 6-foot-3 frame next to me and discuss politics, sports and his accounting class. Cute, I know, but I’ve gotten use to short texts and the occasional call for money.

So yes, I’m thrilled G is going back today.

I need to make the remaining Wilson family great again (yep, I went there).

Navigating Hemingway Commentary by Dick Wolfsie The Wolfsies are moving. We checked out lots of places. In one neighborhood, we saw a Commander Avenue, HUMOR Commander Way, Commander Circle and Commander Court.

Did they run out of nautical terms right after they named the development Commander Point? In another community, we saw Sheila Road, Shelly Court and Shirley Way. We presently live on a street with a long Indian name. My son was 10 before he could pronounce it and 17 before he could spell it, so I used to tell him that if he had to call 911 for me, it would be easiest just to drag me out to the highway.

One thing we learned is to never ask for directions within a housing development.

Even the people who live there are clueless.

“Excuse me, can you tell me where Ernest Hemingway Drive is?”

“Uh, let’s see. This is Nathaniel Hawthorne Lane and the next left is Herman Melville Court. Or maybe it’s Henry Thoreau Terrace. Are you sure Ernest Hemingway Drive is around here? It may be over in the 20th-century author section across the

street.”

People don’t know the names of nearby streets because they don’t know people who live close by. All their friends live in classier places, maybe named after French writers or books, although I wouldn’t want to live on Les Miserables Drive.

We once gave up trying to find a friend’s new home. After an hour, we asked a guy walking his dog, “Excuse me, can you tell us how to get to the main road?”

“Sorry, but I can’t help you. I’ve only lived here a year. Would you like directions to the pool?”

“No, we don’t want to go to the pool. We want to get out of here.”

“OK, let’s try this: Turn left on the street that’s named after that guy who wrote “The Prince and the Pauper,” then a right on the road named after the man who…what’s his name? He wrote ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls.’”

We got home at 3 a.m. What a novel experience.

Hawaii trip a wish come true

By Desiree Williams news@currentzionsville.com With less than $3,000 left to fundraise, Camden Cooper is close to receiving a dream come true from the CANCER Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Camden battled acute lymphoblastic leukemia in 2015 from March until July, when he went into remission after going through chemotherapy, radiation and a bone marrow transplant. He completed seventh and eighth grade through homebound education and returned to school as a freshman at Zionsville Community High School.

“During my treatment, everything was pretty slow and I didn’t do a whole lot, but for the past two years or so I’ve been back playing sports, going to school and seeing my friends,” he said. “I would say everything feels normal now, and I am back to where I was before, but now I’m getting even stronger.”

When Camden was well enough, his family applied with Make-A-Wish and received approval last year. Camden said he chose Hawaii so that he can swim with dolphins, hike around the islands and enjoy the environment with his family.

The Cooper family is looking forward to visiting Hawaii.

“The part that as a mom I’m looking forward to the most is all of our family just being together and having fun and celebrating that we made it,” said Camden’s mother, Holly. “We made it. We’re good. It’s just such a special thing.”

The Cooper family is working with Kristie Naglich to grant the Wish. As an honoree of the Women Inspiring Strength and Hope initiative (W.I.S.H.) in Indiana, Naglich committed to raising all $8,000 for the trip.

Naglich previously worked with Carmel High School student Bella Simons, who has

had brain surgery and suffered strokes, to grant her Wish to go to Hawaii. Simons is now partnering with Naglich to fundraise for Camden. Bella and her mother, Tasha, set their own goal of contributing $2,000.

“We treasure the memories (of our Wish trip), and that has helped us with (Bella’s) subsequent strokes and major brain surgery,” Tasha said. “It’s been meaningful, encouraging and an honor and blessing to help another student like Bella go to Hawaii.”

“My Sinuses Are Bothering Me”

“My sinuses are bothering me”! It is a phrase we hear all the time throughout the year. But what does this actually mean? People use the phrase to mean that they have nasal congestion, facial pressure, nasal drainage, teeth pain, headache, or even fatigue. These symptoms could be a result of actual sinus infections, but also could be from seasonal allergies or structural abnormalities within the nasal cavity, such as a deviated septum.

Interest in launching or moving a business to Boone County has been strong so far this year, with ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT the Boone County Economic Development Corp. receiving a record number of leads through the end of February.

Molly Whitehead, executive director of the Boone County Economic DevelopWhitehead ment Corp., gave an update to the Zionsville Town Council at its March 19 morning meeting. She said lead requests can be as simple as a cut sheet for a building or as advanced as a lengthy request for projects.

As of mid-March, the EDC had received 42 leads. At this time last year, the number was 37.

“One challenge we continue to see, not only in Zionsville but Boone County, is over half the leads require an existing building,” Whitehead said. “That does limit our ability to respond to leads if we don’t have something to fit their requirements.”

Whitehead also said seven or eight leads have been rejected, which usually happens if the EDC doesn’t expect the project to be a good fit for the county.

“Call centers are not a good fit because there are not good spaces and they have low wages, which we cannot fill in Boone County,” Whitehead said. “We had quite a few (leads) with dirty operations. They ask about discharging black matter into open streams, and those sorts of opportunities we decline.”

Whitehead said the EDC recently applied for three grants for a site-readiness program and restaurant marketing campaigns.

“We want to bring different types of restaurants not only to Zionsville, but throughout Boone County,” she said. “I know that’s a key quality-of-life driver.”

Council President Josh Garrett asked a few questions following Whitehead’s presentation, such as how the EDC picks a community for the location of a job with high wages.

Whitehead said a key factor is available space and inventory. She said Zionsville is a key area for headquarters and offices.

Moontown Brewing now open

By Chris Bavender news@currentzionsville.com Moontown Brewing threw a grand opening party like no other — a self-proclaimed four-day “rager” March 15 to 18 — coinciding with NCAA March WHITESTOWN Madness.

“It was absolutely incredible. There are some tired Moontown employees out there, but this is only because they dumped their hearts and souls into providing the best experience possible,” said Patrick Mattingly, one of Moontown’s co-owners.

It was announced in August 2016 that Moontown Brewing would open in the historic former Whitestown High School gym.

Moontown’s event venue opened in October 2017, and the taproom opened in January. Mattingly said contributions from the Moontown team, the Town of Whitestown and close friends and family helped bring it to fruition.

“Without them, Moontown wouldn’t be any more than a daydream,” Mattingly said.

“It means the easy part is now over. The gritty work of running, maintaining and constantly improving our organization and space has started and won’t ever stop.

Moontown has the capability to serve 20 beers at a time. Currently, there are nine on draft. The brewery is working toward getting 12 on draft ahead of its Maibock tapping party April 28.

Customer response has been positive.

“I think this building, going from landmark to eyesore and now back to landmark/functioning brewpub, is something the people – especially in Whitestown – adore to no end,” Mattingly said.

“Our goal with bringing microbreweries to Boone County is ultimately to improve the quality of life we have here. It’s difficult to quantify, but quality of life does matter in economic development, especially with low unemployment,” Whitehead said.

The influx of breweries raises the question whether the county can support others down the road.

“Nationally and within Indiana, there has been enormous growth from microbreweries in the past few years, and some would suggest there is still more room for growth,” Whitehead said. “As for Boone County, we’re thrilled Zionsville, Lebanon and Whitestown each now have a microbrewery. There might be room for one or two more. After taking a bit of a hiatus on marketing to microbreweries, we are planning to re-start those marketing efforts soon.”

Netolicky’s book details Indiana’s love affair with ABA, Pacers

Bob Netolicky, betBASKETBALL ter known as “Neto,” was a member of the Indiana Pacers in their inaugural 1967-68 season in the American Basketball Association. Dick Tinkham was one of the Pacers’ original co-owners and legal counsel for the team. Tinkham served on the merger committee. The ABA folded in 1976 and the Pacers were one of four teams that merged into the NBA. “Dick and I were talking four or five years ago, and a book had come out about the ABA, and he said none of this is right,” said Netolicky, who was a longtime Carmel resident before moving to Noblesville in 2013. “He said it’s all hearsay or thirdperson. He started telling me some stories that I had never heard.”

Netolicky, Tinkham and NBC Sports racing reporter Robin Miller have co-authored a recently released book, “We Changed the Game.”

One story in particular that Netolicky had never heard was that if the Pacers had lost a seventh game in a first round playoff series against Kentucky in 1969, the team would have folded the next day.

Instead, the Pacers won that game and another round to reach the finals and were able to gain more investors.

“I was shocked,” Netolicky said. “(Tinkham) kept saying we got to write a book and tell what really happened.”

Tinkham said he didn’t want to write a book like all the other ones on the ABA, which he described as long, drawn-out press clippings of games.

“He said, ‘Let’s have some fun and tell the real stories,” Netolicky said. “We started with two or three different writers, and it just dawned on me that Robin was with us since Day 1. He started out as a cub reporter with the team in ’69.”

Star, Miller often traveled with the team and wrote features. Netolicky nicknamed him “Jimmy Olsen” after the young reporter in “Superman.”

“So, after about four years, we have a book,” Netolicky said. “It’s a fun read. Dick was worried about stepping on people’s toes, but I said, ‘Dick, everyone is dead.’”

There are of course some stories about Bobby “Slick” Leonard, who took over as Pacers coach in the second season and guided them to three ABA championships.

IWS to present ‘Among the Trees’ editorial@youarecurrent.com The Indiana Wind Symphony will present “Among the Trees” at 7 p.m. April 8 at The Palladium, the Center for the Performing Arts, in Carmel.

IWS will perform music inspired by the magnificence and beauty of trees. Accomplished pianist Kelleen Strutz will be featured in Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” which concludes the first half of the concert.

“This will be Kelleen’s fourth or fifth performance with us,” IWS Music Director Charlie Conrad said. “She’s been one of our pretty regular soloists. ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ is the only one that doesn’t have a tie-in to trees.”

Conrad said this is the first concert theme devoted to songs about trees.

“We wanted to do the tune, ‘Wind in the Willows,’ and we were going to do ‘Pines of Rome,’ so we took the link off of those,” Conrad said. “We have a couple of new pieces we’re really excited by and a couple that we’ve played before and really enjoyed.

‘Pines of Rome’ is going to be the finale.”

‘Eva’ set for world premiere

By Mark Ambrogi • mark@youarecurrent.com Indianapolis filmmaker Ted Green knew little about Holocaust survivor Eva Mozes Kor before hearing her speak.

FILM “A buddy of mine at Butler had been talking to me about Eva for a long time, but I kept blowing him off because I was so wrapped up in my Crispus Attucks (film) project,” Green said. “Finally, this is almost exactly two years ago, he called me and said she was speaking that night at Clowes Hall and he had tickets for me, pretty much demanding I come over. I did, and I daresay, like everyone else who sees Eva speak for the first time, I was instantly mesmerized, but not just by what she was saying; equally so by the hold she had on the crowd. Two thousand people were just staring raptly at this little blue octogenarian in the front of the room. Right then I knew there was something special about her, and I felt this visceral need to tell her story. Two years later, I’m still held rapt by her.”

Green said it’s critical that Kor’s story is shared.

“Not simply because of her connection with the Holocaust, which must never be forgotten, but also because she stands as a seminal example of the power a single person can have to make this a better world,” Green said. “I believe that’s what Eva stands for above all. She’s an inspiration, particularly to young people. We very much hope this documentary takes on national and even international legs.”

Summer Concert Series set

The Thursday night free series at Dillon Park and Forest Park was recently announced.

The lineup at Dillon Park, 6351 Midland Lane, includes May 31: Big 80’s Band; June 7: NKG; June 14: Saddlebrook; June 21: Living Proof; June 28: Jai Baker; and July 5: Endless Summer Band. Forest Park (701 Cicero Road): July 12: Bigg Country Band; July 26: Cash on Fire; and Aug. 2: The Doo! Band.

“It’s been nine shows for as long as I can remember,” said Mike Hoffmeister, Noblesville Parks assistant director.

Hoffmeister said a special event, not part of the series, will be announced for July 19 at a later date.

“Living Proof has been here for a number of years and they always draw a large crowd,” Hoffmeister said. “Endless Summer is a band we’ve had before and they’re also very popular. They were here two years ago.”

The goal for the master bathroom remodel was to get better utilization out of the floorplan, while the goal for the laundry room was to find a solution to gain more space.

1. The largest change in the master bathroom came from removing the existing framed shower and replacing it with a custom tile shower with frameless glass. The shower now appears much larger than it was before and allows for more natural light.

2. New cabinetry was added to the vanity, creating more space for storage.

3. The tub was replaced with a tub that had a much more contemporary design, and the filler was relocated, opening up the deck.

4. Space was taken from the master closet to create a new laundry room on the second level of the home. Cabinetry and space to hang clothing was added above the washer and dryer.

The homeowners wanted to make this home a more functional place to raise their young family.

Remembering the agony of Jesus Commentary by Don Knebel Christians visit Jerusalem this time of year to connect with places associated with the Easter story. One such place enshrines a rock claimed to be where TRAVEL Jesus prayed before his death.

According to the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, after the Last Supper, Jesus went to a place called Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives and prayed that his life be spared if that was God’s will. Without naming the place, the Gospel of Luke says Jesus was in agony while praying before his arrest. Saying nothing about praying, the Gospel of John says Jesus was arrested in a garden.

Combining these accounts, Christians believe Jesus prayed in agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. No account mentions a rock.

Christians have identified various locations on the Mount of Olives as Gethsemane. In the 12th century, Crusaders built a chapel near the foot of the Mount of Olives next to a grove of olive trees they associated with Gethsemane. Some Christians later became convinced that the olive trees existed during the time of Jesus and that Jesus had knelt to pray on an outcropping of bedrock near the abandoned Crusader chapel. In the 1920s, Franciscans built the neoclassical Basilica of the Agony around the flat rock, which extends above the floor in front of the high altar.

The church’s interior is intentionally dark to reflect Jesus’ agony. Twelve small domes are painted blue on their undersides to evoke the night sky under which Jesus prayed.

The exterior includes four groups of columns, each topped by the statue of a Gospel writer displaying a verse leading to beliefs about Gethsemane. A colorful mosaic on the façade above the columns depicts Jesus mediating between God and humanity. Because donations to build the church came from many countries, it is commonly known as the Church of All Nations.

The property involved is more commonly known as: Oxford Woods, Lots 3, 5, 6, 14 and 15, and is legally described as: Lots 3, 5, 6, 14, and 15 in Oxford Woods, an Addition to Zionsville, Indiana, as per the plat thereof recorded November 14, 2016, as Instrument Number 201600011392, in the Office of the Recorder of Boone County, Indiana.

A copy of the Petition for Development Standards Variance, and all plans pertaining thereto are on file and may be examined prior to the Public Hearing from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for Holidays, in the Offices of the Clerk-Treasurer in the Zionsville Town Hall, 1100 West Oak Street, Zionsville, Indiana 46077. Written comments in support of or in opposition of the Petition that are filed with the Secretary of the Town of Zionsville Board of Zoning Appeals prior to the Public Hearing will be considered. The Public Hearing is open to the public. Oral comments to the Petition for Development Standards Variance will be heard at the Public Hearing.

The Public Hearing may be continued from time to time as may be found necessary.
