As a dentist in practice for 26 years in Hamilton County, she has seen her share of phobic patients and says they are her favorite kind to treat.

As a dog trainer, Becker explains how an overly cautious dog can be fearful of unfamiliar situations, leading to aggressive behavior. Dogs with this reputation are also her favorite kind.

Since 1990, Becker has trained chows to maneuver agility courses with ease and to provide comfort to people as therapy dogs.

Her visits to Noblesville have been frequent, from attending agility classes with Dr. Mona Gitter of Noblesville Square Animal Clinic to fostering a chow mix through the Humane Society for Hamilton County.

“It’s a great way to test drive dog ownership,” says Becker, a strong advocate of fostering.

Becker has adopted dogs from humane societies, rescue groups and off the streets as strays. Her hairy legion currently includes chows Kobi and China, and Sugar, a Siberian husky stray that had been following Becker on an 8-mile hike. Her newest addition is Jah-Li, a chow mix puppy found through a rescue group in Missouri.

Once crippled by fears including children, walking on linoleum floors and eating from Becker’s hand, Foxy’s fears lessened and her sense of security soared over a year of Becker’s self-guided training and an obedience class. Foxy earned an obedience title and was ready for another challenge.

That’s when Becker heard about agility trials. Picture an obstacle course of curving tunnels, unstable teeter totters, hurdles to jump and poles to weave in and out of, all shrunken down to accommodate dogs. As a handler, Becker directs her dogs through these courses as quickly and cleanly as possible.

“It takes a lot of patience and good observational skills,” Becker says. A leader’s body posture is also key; dogs will identify and respond to any little change.

As with any dog, you also must understand the kind of animal you are training.

“Hunting dogs, in general, are bred to take direction from humans,” Becker says regarding breeds such as golden retrievers and Labradors. Others are bred to be independent, such as Siberian huskies and German shepherds. Chows, the prevailing opinion holds, are especially difficult to train.

“As a trainer, you need to know what the dog was bred to do, its inherent tendencies and how to deal with them accordingly,” Becker says.

When Becker’s dogs aren’t racing through obstacle courses, many of them are serving as therapy dogs, trained to comfort people in hospitals, nursing homes and schools.

“I find it relaxing and incredibly rewarding,” she says. “It’s important to have the right temperament. If you get a dog that not only likes people but wants to make people feel better, you have a good candidate.”

Inside the intensive care unit at Community Hospital East in Indianapolis, China visited a patient recovering from a head injury. When the woman’s hand found China’s soft fur, she smiled. The nurse said it was the first time her facial expression had changed in several weeks.

“China was born to be a therapy dog,” Becker says.

For Becker, the rewards of owning and training dogs are great.

Unconditional love and constant entertainment are givens, but she also sees it as a way to better her community.

“We humans have domesticated these animals and there are all these homeless animals that no one is taking responsibility for.

Since I have a talent for this sort of thing, I feel like it’s a sort of community service,” she says.

It is our position that the State of Indiana, generally, and our legislature, specifically, must act in response to falling revenue. The State has undershot its tax collection forecast for the past 17 months; Leaders in the Indiana Senate have undertaken to pass a collection of resolutions aimed at making our budget balance. While no one wants to spend less, we believe it would be irresponsible to take any other action. With business already suffering tremendously from the current recession and concern over coming months (including potential for significant tax increases or continued malaise in the economy), government must continue to make its expenses match it earnings.

The Senate bills have passed and are now awaiting corresponding passage from the Indiana House of Representatives. There, Speaker Pat Bauer can choose to act and bring the bill to the floor for a vote, or he can simply shelve the proposals and let the State spend more than it makes. While the folly of overspending seems apparent to most taxpayers, it nevertheless routinely eludes the thinking of many government officials. Senate bills 1, 35, 236 and 98 deserve a vote. And we should demand it.

Getting social

It is our position that it was high time for our fine community to join the social network and get with the times. Not only has the city of Noblesville recently become more user-friendly by joining the ranks of Facebook and Twitter, it has also updated its own Web site. Use of such technology is making it easier for citizens to stay updated on what is happening with our community. While we applaud our city for this, we should have made this move months ago.

Other towns and cities are actively involved in seeking new and innovative ways to communicate with constituencies; certainly more traditional forms of communication, like this newspaper, remain the most effective way to reach the citizenry but we must push ourselves to try alternative routes contemporaneously.

While we believe that Noblesville should have been on Facebook long ago, we appreciate that leaders are willing to conform to fit our needs, especially when a growing number of taxpayers have spent much of their lives with a computer in their home (and on the Web). It is becoming second nature to look something up via a Web site rather than make a phone call.

In all Cases affecting Ambassadors, other public Ministers and Consuls, and those in which a State shall be Party, the supreme Court shall have original Jurisdiction. 'Lefty' was right on target in WWII’s bloodiest battle COMMENTARY

By Zach Dunkin Little did Merrill “Lefty” Huntzinger know that when he reported to Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis 67 years ago March 11 he would end up fighting in the largest and bloodiest battle that American forces experienced in World War II, the Battle of the Bulge.

And the much-decorated soldier probably never expected to be collecting another accolade 65 years after his medical discharge. The longtime Noblesville resident recently was awarded the Knight of the Legion of Honor medal for valorous action in France. Established by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, it’s the country’s highest decoration awarded.

“I am still humbled receving it,” said Huntzinger, who was presented the award at the Service Club of Indianapolis.

More than 19,000 Americans died at The Bulge, Hitler’s ambitious counteroffensive in December 1944. Huntzinger’s division alone suffered 2,999 casualties. Once captured by the Germans, he easily could have been No. 3,000.

“That was really scary,” said the Butler University graduate, who now lives in Riverwalk Commons with Sarah, his wife of nearly 62 years. “They weren’t going to let us free, and they had to start their attack. What were they going to do with us? They were going to kill us.”

radio ad salesman is very much alive and can recall vividly details of his 29-month U.S. Army tour.

“I didn’t even think I’d be in the infantry,” said Huntzinger, who served as machine gunner in the 2nd Infantry Division. “My dad (Oscar) had been in the infantry in WWI, got wounded and hated the military. When I joined he went ballistic. He needed me on the farm in Blackford County.”

Just moments after Huntzinger and his fellow soldiers were rescued, he was “popping” Germans in the streets near Krinkelt, Belgium.

Under attack by a German tank, he took out a couple of gunners in the turret and then picked off a few more of the enemy following the tank. Credited with killing 12 Germans, he was awarded the Bronze Star.

“I’m pretty sure I killed more than 12; I had 36 rounds and I never missed,” he recalled.

“I really never knew really how many I killed throughout the war. I know I killed at least three dozen in the Battle of the Bulge. Anyway, it’s all over now.”

Napoleon would have approved.

This, to us, was shocking news. Mortimer Zuckerman, The Last of the Great Liberals™ and top editor at U.S. News & World Report, recently wrote something that nearly knocked us from our ergonomically correct chairs.

By Danielle Wilson You know what I’ve decided? A.D.D. makes me M.A.D., mad! Both in an angry sense and in a mentally crazy way. Why? Because attention deficit disorder really screws people up, and if you don’t have the patience or means to deal with it, A.D.D. can seriously tax relationships. My husband and one of my sisters have it, as does the child of good friends of ours. All our lives would just be so much easier if A.D.D. didn’t exist.

And I get so irritated with those who think it’s not a real disorder, that A.D.D. is just a label pharmaceutical companies invented so they can make millions from selling Adderall, Focalin and Strattera.

Clearly, these disbelievers haven’t had to work around a loved one who can’t seem to get anything done on time or, at the other extreme, gets so involved with a project he forgets about everything (and everyone) else.

Take my husband. He’s never been officially diagnosed, but it’s quite clear to me and his family he suffers from A.D.D. As a child, he struggled in school and stirred up trouble. In college, he often missed deadlines and left tasks incomplete. As an adult, he’s learned to make lists and to

self-medicate with caffeine and now enjoys a successful career. But he still drives me bonkers, like when I ask him repeatedly to plow the driveway and days later it’s still not finished, though the garage is spit-spot clean because on the way to the shovel, he became distracted by the leaf-strewn floor.

Then there’s my younger sister. I never thought much about her having A.D.D., but when I look back on her childhood, the signs were all there. She too struggled in school, even though my parents held her back a year, and she frequently had trouble focusing on homework. Christina probably had the hyperactivity component too, as she was always in motion, whether it was bouncing off the basement walls or competing in gymnastics or cross country.

Over the past several years, she has become increasingly frustrated at her inability to read a book and has opted for medication. She can now read chapters at a time without losing interest or focus. But she’s also 32. Think of all that time she suffered for nothing, believing she was lacking in some way.

Superintendent Conner proposing $3.4 million cut to School Board Current in Noblesville Noblesville Schools superintendent Dr. Libbie Conner will recommend to the Noblesville Board of School Trustees at its next meeting March 16 cost-saving measures of more than $3.4 million.

Conner The list includes reductions in staff, operational costs and program adjustments.

School districts throughout Indiana are being forced to make cuts as a result of significant reductions in school funding caused by declining sales tax revenues due to a down economy.

The recommendations come after intensive study by the district’s Budget Review Committee. That committee, formed in August 2008, is made up of teachers, classified staff, school and district administrators, and school board members.

“Our revenue from the state continues to decrease. At the same time, we are a growing school corporation and our costs continue to increase as we serve our additional students,” Dr. Conner said.

With the state’s reduction in 2010 funding, this year’s funding level is below the 2007

budget. Enrollment since the 2006-07 school year has climbed nearly 700 students.

Conner is recommending changes in order to balance the budget of Noblesville Schools.

The total impact on the general fund is $3,374,204. Some of those savings include: • $1 million – Reduce the district’s cost of health insurance for employees by $1 million or reduce 20 teaching positions.

• $525,000 – Freeze the salary of all certified teaching staff at present levels and suspend incremental salary increases or reduce 10 teaching positions. (Salaries and benefits of administrators and all other staff already have been frozen.)

• $450,000 – Change daily schedules at the intermediate and middle school that would reduce nine teaching positions.

• $170,000 – Close the pool at freshman campus • $121,500 – At the high school, eliminate transportation costs for athletics and performing arts, reduce cost of clubs and academic teams by 25 percent, reduce cost of athletic programs by 25 percent.

Don’t flush those unused pills; TOM WOOD get rid of them at Marsh stores

By Zach Dunkin Current in Noblesville While most of us are well aware of the dangers of improperly disposing items like batteries, paint and toxic household products, we might not think about how to get rid of unused and unwanted medications. We simply flush them down the toilet or toss them in the trash.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management cautions us not to do so.

“Flushing medicines down the toilet is not the proper way to dispose of them,” said Amber Finkelstein, public information officer for the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. “Wastewater facilities are not designed to remove those pharmaceutical chemicals, and they’ll find their way into the waterways.”

Throwing pharmaceuticals in the garbage also poses a hazard because pets and children can be poisoned as a result of accidental ingestion That’s why the IDEM and Marsh Store Pharmacies partner twice a year to collect unwanted and unused medicine.

Hoosiers will have the opportunity to dispose of them from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 13 and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 14 at Central Indiana Marsh stores. There are two Marsh stores in Noblesville: 17901 River Avenue and 14450 Mundy Drive.

Specific types of pharmaceuticals that will be accepted include: • Prescription medications • Over-the-counter medications • Vitamins and nutritional supplements • Veterinary medications • Sharps or needles in resalable hard, plastic containers.

The following items will not be accepted: • Controlled substances • Hazardous, poisonous or toxic substances • Flammable liquids containing alcohol • Mixed medications or medications in alternate containers • Medical or household chemicals • Inhalers • Business waste All items must be fully identifiable and in their original containers but Finkelstein cautions participants to delete patient information displayed on discarded containers because of the risk of identity theft.

“Either cross out your personal information with a heavy Sharpie or remove the part of the label that has that information on it,” she said.

“Just be sure the name of the medication is on there.”

To be completely honest, reading the alarming statistics regarding heart disease and stroke lit a fire under my hibernating behind. I’m looking forward to throwing on my running shoes as the temperatures continue to climb.

When I signed our son’s permission slip, I told him I was excited he would be helping to fight heart disease. He was far more excited about earning a jump rope.

By Leslie Webber Heart disease isn’t something I normally associate with children. So, I was surprised to learn that according to the American Heart Association, more than 30,000 children are born in the U.S. each year with a heart defect.

Heart disease and stroke are the number one and number three causes of all deaths in the U.S. The American Heart Association is giving kids a chance to help. During the next few weeks, several Noblesville schools will be participating in “Jump Rope for Heart.” The program allows the community to support the association’s efforts to fund research and promote cardiovascular care.

I remember participating as a kid, and the lessons I learned stuck with me. Granted, I no longer exercise enough to make my gym teacher proud, but there’s always hope. What I remember most is spending time in our sweltering gymnasium jumping rope with friends. At the time, we were focused on collecting enough money to earn our own jump ropes. Now, as an adult, I appreciate the importance of the funds we raised as children back then.

Don’t be afraid to talk to your doctor about natural remedies COMMENTARY

Many of you are using natural remedies and afraid to tell your medical doctor fearing repercussions. Let your doctors know you are working with a Naturopathic Doctor and what natural remedies they are taking.

When you decide to talk to your medical doctor, here are some helpful tips: • Don’t ask your doctor what he/she thinks about natural remedies. Ask them what they know. A good doctor will tell you what they know or do not know.

• Tell them you are more interested in finding the cause rather than just taking a prescription.

• I have my clients set up a call between themselves, their medical doctor, and myself so everyone is on the same page.

• If surgery or long term drug therapy is recommended, consider a second opinion

from a Naturopathic Doctor.

Whatever is best for the patient should be the doctor’s primary concern and learning new things is definitely a good thing.

Don’t let anyone tell you that natural remedies are not tested. That is simply not true.

The National Institute of Health’s Alternative and Complementary Medicine division is conducting hundreds of research projects right now.

Look them up for yourself.

Find a new medical doctor if they: • Don’t admit what they do not know.

• Generalize about natural remedies.

Set in Harlem 1987, “Precious” is the firstperson story of Claireece “Precious” Jones, an obese, illiterate 16-year-old who’s pregnant with her second child. She’s the victim of her mother, a serial abuser, played with terrifying rage by Mo’Nique, and was raped repeatedly by her father.

She’s like a thousand others girls that people pass on the streets every day without seeing. Her entire life has taught her to feel worthless, like “ugly, black grease.”

Precious. Outwardly, she is unexpressive, barely ever speaking and hardly allowing a flicker of emotion to visit upon her broad face. Inside her mind, though, is a flight of dreams and thoughts she uses to transport herself out of the hellhole that is her life.

Precious is given a second chance when she’s sent to an alternative school, where she finds a teacher and fellow female students who help her, for the first time in her life, to feel empowered. The vibrant fantasies that ping around her head start to translate into the journals she

keeps for class.

“Precious” is a hard movie to watch. The brutality it depicts, of both a physical and psychological nature, are vile. The only thing worse would be failing to see it.

It helps to define us. The ways we grow, prepare and eat food, the role we give it in our daily routines, and the rituals and traditions that surround it in our homes and communities speak volumes about who we are.

Food gives us a sense of place. Food is often our first exposure to an unfamiliar culture. Food often serves as the centerpiece for family gatherings as well as opportunities to learn more about new friends The Indiana Humanities Council believes food serves as a wonderfully tangible demonstration of the way our cultures are defined, united and distinguished, and the way we all hunger for greater understanding of each other and the world around us.

For that reason, the council has launched “Food for Thought,” a two-year, statewide celebration and examination of food and the role it plays in our culture. And the council is inviting you to get involved, to join the conversation and enjoy the events and activities “Food for Thought” will highlight in 2010 and 2011, and to learn about what the food you eat says about

you, your family, your community and your state.

“Food for Thought” will encourage the people of Indiana to think, read and talk about food through events, festivals, public conversations, a traveling exhibit, community gardens, visiting farms and more. We’ll consider our personal connections to food as well as global issues surrounding food-issues such as hunger, nutrition, food production, agricultural innovation and obesity.

My daughter loves me Experience as much as orange that “Si” COMMENTARY

By David Cain Nothing is more inspiring than your child’s love. The look in their eyes as they glance at you with a look of reliance. You are their rock. You are their cornerstone, their foundation. They look to you for their very existence. You are their essence.

I was playing with my 2-year-old daughter.

She is fluent in broken English and a second language I call “baby” – a rich result of broken English spoken through a pacifier. Remove the pacifier, and you get broken English, put it in and you get “baby.” Either way, the result is confusing and cute. You’ll smile as often as you’re frustrated. As we played, she stopped suddenly, looked at me and said, “I love you daddy!” I felt the warmth flush through my body, as I smiled at her with great satisfaction she added, “I love orange too!”

I had achieved the same status as a color. Not just any color, but orange. Orange and I shared my daughter’s admiration and love. Her love for her father was at par with orange. I wasn’t sure how to react, but I could feel the warmth fade.

Like home, business presents opportunities for the same feelings. While you might believe

your customers are in love with your company and its services, if you don’t consistently deliver an experience that is memorable and valuable, that attractive orange might come along and curry their favor.

In business, if you are too comfortable with your business, your services or your job, then you’re at risk. If being good is a hurdle for being great, then comfort is the enemy of confidence.

Status quo and innovation are foes. Customer service is a misnomer.

You service cars. People demand a relationship. They want to talk to a real person, they want you to have an opinion, they want advice, and they want you to care. State flower should represent our heritage, not gravesites COMMENTARY

By Holly Funk Indiana is so rich in Native American history that they named the whole dang place after them. So why, then, is our state flower, the peony, an exotic flower from China?

Adopted as the state flower of Indiana in 1957, it replaced the zinnia, which held the title for 26 years. Both of these selections perplex me, given the rich history of our state, as neither of them represents our past very well.

For example, this area was thick with Native Americans when the settlers arrived, and settlers absolutely had to rely on them a bit to survive.

(Remember that whole Thanksgiving thing?)

And at the same time, the settlers brought many plants with them that ended up finding a home here. The dandelions, for instance.

Settlers brought them here as food for honeybees and many parts of the plants are used medicinally as well as nutritionally.

The peony was supposedly chosen for its popularity to adorn memorials all over the state. A nice sentiment, I suppose. But I think a flower that represents the history of the people who settled this land would be more appropriate.

Native plant enthusiasts absolutely insist that the state flower should be a native wildflower.

And I don’t see why that shouldn’t be so. Except

for that I think the flower should represent the history of the state, whether it is a native or brought by settlers. After all, we are a direct result of that mix.

The state tree, the tulip tree is a great example of that. In fact, the tulip tree’s beautiful flower preceded the zinnia that preceded the peony.

Because of its strong but light timber and its importance as habitat for wildlife, this abundant native impacted Native American and early settler life, alike. Now that’s a reason to give it a state designation.

Why the zinnia had to replace the flower of the tulip is up for debate, with stories of a seed salesman being the catalyst. But I am glad that the idea was not abandoned and the tree is now recognized as the state tree.

If you ask me, I think we should go back to the tulip tree flower – or an apple blossom, something that provides beauty and has a rich history that reflects the people who are Hoosiers. Including the ones that don’t have peonies adorning their graves.

By Hannah Davis When I was in fifth grade, I was told I’d never have to pay for college. But this was assuming, I think, that I would maintain my perfect grades for the rest of eternity.

When they started to droop (and that’s putting it mildly), I was told not to worry too much, because there’s “a scholarship for everyone,” and surely my SAT scores would be high enough to “have colleges begging for [me].”

As much as it pains me to say it, things haven’t turned out so spectacularly.

No, I haven’t given a penny to a school yet.

But I’ll have to fork over the cash soon enough, because as it turns out, there’s not a scholarship for everyone.

Yes, I qualify for a good handful of them. But I won’t be the only girl applying for the generic Lions Club one, or the three that Tri Kappa offers. The chances of me winning a decently sized scholarship are lookin’, at this point, pretty slim.

What about those niché ones, you ask?

Well, unfortunately my parents don’t work for Industrial Dielectrics, I don’t intend to major in fine arts, and I only attended my elementary school for two years, not the required minimum of three. I knew I’d find home-schooling’s downside eventually.

I’m left wondering what normal, underachieving-but-still-intelligent-and-hard-working teenagers are supposed to do. I’ve had a job for years, I’ve gotten decent grades, and I’ve dedicated my last 10 summers to 4-H. That doesn’t seem to be helping much right now, though.

I came to terms a long time ago with the fact that I’d have to take out some massive loans, but I need all the help I can get. And it doesn’t look like I’m going to find it in scholarships.

The 80/20 rule of a gorgeous home!

By Vicky Earley Twenty percent of the time, when I enter a client’s home, they believe they need to change 80 percent too much to pull their home together.

Oh, you know where I am headed with this – it is all about the old 80/20 rule by Pareto. Twenty percent of your activities produce 80 percent of your results. Are you focusing on the 80, or the 20? Focus on the 20!

Start this process by writing down 20 changes that will produce real results. Be brutal with yourself. If you are longing for hardwood floors, new door hardwood, new tile in the master bath and storage shelves for your kid’s playroom, but still have a sofa that drags on the floor, you could blow the budget and still not have a single room that feels good.

Because these changes probably represent separate areas in your home, it is time to isolate the 20 percent of your home (probably two rooms) that can really make a difference. Select these areas based on the idea that they would really benefit from your attention and are important to the quality of life in your home. Often, this could be the family room and kitchen. The other areas are not forgotten…they are simply in queue.

Success in decorating comes when it is packaged with completion rather than scattered. These two spaces will become our focus area. At this point, outside of “pick up and clean up,” put blinders on.

Pick your high-leverage items in this space to tackle. Estimate

the time and money required and put the rest on the backburner. This should represent the 20 percent that will make a difference in the space.

The best part of this approach is that once the big-impact issues are completed, the remaining 80 percent might not require as much change as originally anticipated.

Before you take action, plan enough ahead to ensure your future decorating changes will flow. I call this your “design thread,” because it will take you from one room to the next with a connecting element. Always consider style and color in your thread!

You will become stymied by something. Consider this as being “stuck in the mud.” It happens to the best. Spinning wheels is counterproductive, so hire a “tow” from an outside source. If your friend is a decorator, employ him or her for a fee, and see if the job can get jump started. Design stores can proffer advice if you don’t have a decorator in reserve.

Hit-and-miss (80 percent) decorating will always be a process with little reward, so isolating the biggest impact (20 percent) in 20 percent of your home will result in a great space!

No more excuses; find time to find your family history COMMENTARY

By Darla Kinney Scoles Lately when people ask about my genealogical pursuits I find myself saying things like “life has been really hectic lately” (which it has) or “this week is crazy-busy” (which it is).

In other words, I haven’t made much progress. I love the online searching and finding part of family history work; the charting and detailing -- not so much. I had many seemingly valid excuses for delaying the latter activities and was regularly employing them until …

This weekend I read an article about a man in Provo, Utah, who, despite receiving a mid2009 diagnosis of ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), regularly finds the time and motivation to move forward on all aspects of his family’s tree.

Tom Bassett quotes Richard Llewellyn when asked about his efforts: “I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who are to come. I looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in front to see my son, and his son, and the sons upon sons beyond. And their eyes

were my eyes.”

His passion for his family history endeavor overrides the fact that what was easy for him a year ago – including walking and talking – are now difficult or impossible to do.

Though currently bedridden from the effects of his illness, Bassett daily signs on to his laptop and searches out those who have gone before via the Internet.

In other words, despite the fact that Bassett’s life has been really hectic lately, and his week probably crazy-busy, he makes no excuses when it comes to genealogy.

So, this week I re-dedicated my time and signed up for a 10-week course in family history and plan on that commitment to keep me consistent in my efforts. No more excuses.

OBITUARIES Margaret E (Ortwein) Wical, 86, Noblesville, passed away Feb. 24 at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville. She was born Oct. 9, 1923 in Westfield to Verl and Lucille (Stevenson) Ortwein. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Noblesville. She is survived by sons, Dennis Redick and Dan Redick both of Noblesville; granddaughters, Heather Redick Reynolds, Jennifer Redick King, Wendy Redick Jordan and Jodi Redick Battle; sister-in-law, Rosie Ortwein; and several nieces and nephews.

Margaret was married to Robert V. Wical, who was the Noblesville Mayor from 1976-1980. He preceded her in death in Feb., 2003.In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Phillip and Donald Ortwein; and sister Ada Merle Whittington.

Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 197 South 9th St., Noblesville.

John H. Green, Jr., 73, Noblesville, passed away Feb. 26 at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis. He was born Sept.

22, 1936 in Cushing, Okla., to J. Henry and Lorene Raye (Powell) Green. John had retired from Shell Oil Company and was a member of First Christian Church, in Noblesville, the Noblesville Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Boy Scouts of America. He is survived by wife, Virginia Green; son, Michael (Janie) Green; daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Horsfield; four grandchildren, Kyle (Ashley) Green, Matthew Green, Jill Horsfield and Molly Horsfield; three brothers, James, William and Richard Green and one sister, Margie Testerman. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church Youth Group or Boy Scout Troop # 105, both in care of the church, 16377 Herriman Blvd, Noblesville, IN 46060.
