Local class educates adults

By Anna Skinner • anna@youarecurrent.com Although Fishers Junior High School students might understand the U.S. Constitution through the We the Peogovernment ple class, but the City of Fishers discovered that its adult residents may not be as familiar with the way government works.

City council member Cecilia Coble and Robert Leming, instructor of Constitution 101 and the national director of the We the People program, paired together last year for the first Constitution 101 class. This year’s class graduated March 29.

“They’ve got adults in the Fishers community who have decided to give up six weeks and two hours a night to learn about the Constitution and government,” Leming said. “Last year, I started it for adults, and last year it was full. This year, I cut it back to 40 students to provide for a better classroom environment.

We are getting adults to learn about the Constitution. We have great topics, and I look at it as not just a conservative or a liberal point of view, but it is a mix.”

Another class is expected to be offered next year.

I-69 and Campus Parkway Milestone Contractors has begun mobilizing cranes and other equipment and setting a temporary concrete barrier wall along I-69 at Campus Parkway Exit 210. Work will require alternating lane closures on northbound and southbound I-69 between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

“My husband took the class last year and I feel that it helps us understand more of the political system right now, and it really opens up your mind a little bit,” student Marsha Davis said.

“It gives you a picture of what the Constitution was designed to be and what it is,” student Maggie Haley said.

The class uses the We the People textbook through the accelerated course, and students from FJHS attend Constitution 101 and interact with the adult students. “(The class) gives you a picture of what the Constitution was designed to be and what it is,” student Sherrie Schueth said.

North Street Until April 30, North Street will be restricted between Lantern Road and Municipal Drive as crews deliver building materials. Several parking stalls will be unavailable on the south side of North Street and west of Maple Street during this time. Flaggers will help direct traffic while materials are being delivered.

YMCA fundraises through social media videos

By Anna Skinner • anna@youarecurrent.com Felicia Banks and her fundraising team recently launched giving back a fundraising effort similar to the Ice Bucket challenge. Banks serves as activity leader and community campaigner for the Fishers YMCA. “I came up with the idea called the Love Link Challenge, and it asks people to stop their normal day and take a few minutes to reach out to someone they love and let them know they appreciate them,” Banks said. “It will be in the form of a 30-second video posted on social media.”

Those who create the video tag the person they spoke about in the video and the people tagged are encouraged to then participate. Step two of the fundraiser is donating $1 per video to the Fishers YMCA. Each year, the Fishers YMCA holds a fundraiser where 100 percent of donations return to the Y and go toward youth programs for the youth, such as before-

and-after care for kids and summer programs. The Y has provided $140,000 worth of scholarships to before-and-after school care recipients and more than $31,000 of financial assistance to summer camps for the Fishers YMCA. The Fishers YMCA will have a Love Link booth set up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m. April 15 at the gym, 9012 E. 126th St., to encourage attendees to create a Love Link video and provide donations that day.

“We are a child welfare organization, and our mission is to strengthen families and care for children when families cannot,” said Beth Bishop, director of communications, fundraising and development for Safe Families. “The way we do that is we place children into host families for a temporary period of time to give parents the time and space they need to get back on their feet. So, when a family is facing some sort of crisis, we come along and have a network of host families that take kids in.”

The cost to participate is $1,000 for a foursome and $250 per individual. Hole sponsorships are available for $300. Registration begins at 11 a.m., followed by lunch.

“Most of us have family or friends we can call on if you have a medical crisis, but the families we work with on a daily basis don't have that kind of support system they can call on,” Bishop said. “When they have a crisis or when they face unemployment, they don't have a trustworthy support system. We try to build that community support system for them.”

From her beginnings as a page in 1967 to her current role as overseer of eight library branches, Fishers resident Sharon Bernhardt national library week reflects upon her career at The Indianapolis Public Library as her life’s one constant that, in turn, has afforded her great opportunities to grow and adapt through the decades.

Bernhardt This year, IndyPL celebrates Bernhardt’s 50th year of continuous service, the most for any Library employee past or present. Her introduction to the library as a page at the Eagle Branch, then located in a strip center on Tibbs Avenue, served as, according to her, “a good first ‘real’ job” while attending Northwest High School. Continuing to work at the Library throughout her post-secondary schooling, Bernhardt graduated in 1973 from Marian College (now University) with the goal of becoming a social worker.

“But at that time in my life I wasn’t ready for that, so I stayed with the library,” she said.

After earning her masters of library science in 1978, Bernhardt’s stay has become her calling.

Tracking Bernhardt’s travels throughout the Library system is as daunting as it is impressive. After two stints at the Eagle Branch as a clerk and library assistant, she moved to the Haughville Branch where she was a children’s librarian for four years.

Next it was on to the former Marwood Branch for four years as a children’s librarian. Her first branch manager’s position came at the former Prospect Branch where she also served as the children’s librarian.

Then came positions at the former Wanamaker Branch as manager and adult librarian; a return to the Eagle Branch as manager (“at that time my lifelong career goal,” she said); manager at the Nora Branch and Area Resource Manager for eight library locations. In 2015, Bernhardt was named interim director of public services, a position highlighted by her focus on the merger of the Beech Grove Public Library with IndyPL in the summer of 2016. She has now returned to the ARM role where her attention

is split between, Glendale, College Avenue, Fountain Square, Garfield Park, Southport and Beech Grove branches, as well as the InfoZone in The Children’s Museum.

One of Bernhardt’s fondest memories is of a child care center she visited monthly to tell stories.

“One day I got a strange feeling that the kids were getting closer and closer to me as the story went on. So the next time I went to turn a page, I didn’t turn my head and, sure enough, they were scooting up every time I turned a page. By the time I finished the story, they were sitting on my feet,” she said.

Having left her imprint on more than one-third of the library’s entire history, Bernhardt’s iconic status is being celebrated during a week in which libraries and librarians throughout the nation are lauded for the important role they play in the lives of individuals.

Smith publishes Civil War book

By Renee Larr • news@currentinfishers.com Fishers resident Robert R. Smith recently published a book called “Indiana and the Sultana Disaster: The story of a survivor.” The book details history the Civil War story of his great, great grandfather, John H. King, a private in the Ninth Indiana Cavalry. Smith was left with memories of King when his grandmother passed away.

“She left a poster that belonged to my great, great grandfather and also two photographs of him,” Smith said.

King was sent home from a Yankee prisoner of war camp on the Sultana, a steamboat paddle wheeler. The boat was overloaded with passengers and exploded and killed an estimated 1,700 on board, making it the greatest maritime disaster in the U.S. King was one of the survivors.

The book also discusses King’s interactions with two other survivors from Fishers, George Fisher and John Thompson.

The Horseshoe Prairie Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, recently recognized winners from Hamilton County high schools in its Good Citizens Program, which is open to all high school seniors enrolled in public or private schools accredited by their state board of education. Students submit their essays on the topic of what good citizenship means to them, displaying qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Essays are independently judged, and each school’s winning essayist receives a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate and recognition card. Documenting the pipeline Fishers grad travels to North Dakota to film protests, Native American life

By Anna Skinner • anna@youarecurrent.com The idea for Erin Lattimer’s documentary project for a college course was inspired by none other than a Facebook post.

“My cousin had shared somecover story thing on Facebook back in August. I was in a documentary film production (class, at Notre Dame) and we had been looking for a subject,” the 2013 Fishers High School graduate said. “Even though I saw it on Facebook, it didn’t really click until somebody in class started talking about their project, Lattimer where they went to document Native Americans.”

Lattimer and her project partner, Ryan Leen, traveled to North Dakota to document their time at the Dakota Access Pipeline for five days in October. They continued to edit the documentary, called “Peace at the Pipeline,” until mid-January, because President Donald Trump’s executive order to approve the pipeline influenced the documentary's ending.

“The documentary is about the camp at the Dakota Access Pipeline protest,” Lattimer said. “My production partner and I went out there and focused on people being at the camp vs. the protests. Just in general, we went around talking to a bunch of different people about how they were getting around and learning about the cook shack they were running there and what schools were starting up there.”

The documentary was shown at the Notre Dame Student Film Festival, but the project didn't end there. The documentary also has been entered into the April 21-30 Riverside International Film Festival in Riverside, Calif.

“We are talking with our professor to apply for funding to go out there,” Lattimer said. “We are hoping to. We want to go out there. There is a (question and answer) panel they set up with all the directors and stuff and asked us to be on the panel, so we are really hoping (to go.”

The students applied to other film festivals but might not know the acceptance status until summer. To Lattimer, the project has meant more than entering film festivals.

“One thing that really stuck with me out there is it didn’t seem to be just a fight about clean water,” she said. “It was also a fight just for recognition for Native American tribes and the treaties they had with the U.S. government. It seemed like they wanted people to know they were still relevant. They had been just ignored for so many years.”

“Creating this documentary has made me a better filmmaker,” Lee stated in an email to Current. “This

documentary pushed me well outside of my comfort zone, into an unfamiliar, and initially, frightening place.

Going into the camp, we were warned that it would be difficult. We were told that many had entered the camps pretending to be Native Americans in order to do harm or stir up controversy. Because of this, many of them were hesitant to approach us and to trust us with their stories. Likewise, I was hesitant to approach them. However, we were lucky in that many of the people there were happy to talk. In fact, several came running up to us, showing us photos and telling us stories of the struggles and horrors that their people were facing. It was heartbreaking at times, but it also encouraged us to work hard to create a film that told their side of the story.”

Lattimer and Lee are now working on a short fiction film through their advanced digital cinema production course.

Future Festivals Erin Lattimer and Ryan Lee partnered to create a 10-minute documentary on the Native American tribes at the Dakota Access Pipeline. They are still waiting to hear back from eight film festivals to which they’ve applied. Commentary by Terry Anker College towns win big. The local economy benefits from the higher-than-average per capita spending of students (and their benefactors – parents and taxpayers).

Small-town communities that host significant campuses have seen property values and incomes surge even as peer cities without the industrial locus of higher-ed have almost universally stumbled. Moreover, these places tend to see increased levels of education attainment. As the adage goes, folks are being taught to fish rather than being given a fish. The longterm civic advantage of a well-educated population is thoroughly documented and acknowledged.

Indiana State Sen. Luke Kenley has offered a budget amendment to include capital investments into the campuses of Ivy Tech Community College to the tune of $40.2 million for Kokomo and $38.7 million for Muncie. Although not part of our own central Indiana region, it can only serve our larger community. The Kokomo facility was decimated by a tornado this past August. Were it not for the Herculean effort made by students and staff, no learning would be occurring. As to Muncie, it, like all good things, has been a victim of its own success.

Thousands of high-paying Indiana jobs go unfilled because Hoosiers cannot access the instruction required to meet demand.

Investment in Ivy Tech will reap benefits far in excess of the expense for many years to come. Although there are numerous demands on taxpayers, investments in infrastructure, education and other areas that teach people to fish makes sense. Let’s plan the fish fry.

In favor of increased cigarette tax Editor, Every week we hear stories about someone overdosing on heroin. It is turning into an epidemic, and I am glad that our lawmakers are serious about tackling the problem.

Approximately 95 percent of people who are treated for addiction to opioids also are addicted to cigarettes. If we can help people fight the addiction to cigarettes, or even better, never become addicted to begin with, we will save them from a lifetime of chronic diseases and reduce their risk for abusing other

drugs.

That is why I am in favor of the “Raise It For Health” campaign to raise the cigarette tax by $1.50 per pack and increase funding for tobacco prevention and cessation programs.

Again, I applaud our lawmakers for wanting to tackle the drug problem, and let’s keep our children drug-free by increasing the cigarette tax by $1.50.

I made it! I survived a 15-hour car ride through the night that included, but was not limited to, stream-ofhumor consciousness, high-volume diatribes from three teenagers; the constant threat of severe weather; an honest-to-God highway collapse; and a very early morning rendezvous with my husband Doo at the Atlanta airport car rental drop-off. I credit a poorly-made CD of “The Sound of Music” and the promise of sand and sleep for this miraculous feat of driving. Go, me!

Yes, friends, for the first time in five years, I am enjoying a spring break vacation with my beloved family (actually, I am missing one child, as she is a member of a militant color guard team and was denied leave.

I did consider staying to support her at their national competition, but after about three seconds, opted for vacay). Usually, because I teach in a neighboring school district with a different calendar, I’ve wallowed in Midwest self-pity while they frolic along Floridian beaches. But thanks to a unique alignment of Jupiter and Mars, we had the same week off in April. Woo-hoo!

So here I am, two days post-drive, feeling almost like myself again. I’ve slept for 10 hours both nights, already had my coralpainted toes in the Gulf, and unlike Doo and Boy Twin, have successfully avoided Fifth Disease-esque sunburn. And yesterday (gulp), we ate a real dinner, (tear) at a real table, (full-on weeping), all together!

Because that is what family vacation is all about - spending time with each other sans the distractions of the daily grind. Re-establishing connections that have been pushed by the wayside. And laughing at my terrible rendition of “Edelweiss” while making fun of Doo’s splotchy red chest. Peace out.

Costco has never been hijacked Commentary by Dick Wolfsie My Costco cart was laden with soft drinks, garbage bags, a snow tire and a year’s supply of salsa. I was humor in a good mood because I had managed to circle around several demo tables and inhale a dozen different offerings without being fingered as a “repeat sampler.”

The employee at the exit door looked me over head to toe. He was holding something behind his back. Could it have been some kind of breath-analyzer to detect whether I had eaten too much free food? He asked me for my receipt but never actually looked in my cart; he just peered at my list of purchases and then at me, which I think is considered facial profiling. Suddenly, he whipped out a yellow highlighter. Would I soon receive that sought-after stripe that squiggles down the list and shows that you have truly arrived? Actually, it shows that you have truly left.

OK, so what’s that stripe really for? No one checks your items. You could have murdered the lady behind the lunch counter for taking too long to serve your pizza, stuffed her on the bottom rack of the cart next

to a 12-pack of Coors Light and you’d still proudly make your way to the parking lot with a yellow stripe on that receipt.

Truth is, the precautionary measures at Costco are far better than at the airport.

Recently, I handed a gate agent my ticket, showed her two pieces of ID, took off my shoes and was herded through a metal detector.

“You call that security?” I asked the agent. “Why don’t you guys put a yellow stripe down my ticket like they do at Costco?”

“Why do they do that, sir?”

“I have no idea, but they are very meticulous about it and everyone gets free quiche and egg rolls.”

I’m going to write a letter to the TSA recommending they adopt the Costco approach to security. They may think this is a stupid idea, but here’s the truth: At the Costco on 86th in Castleton, there has never been a hijacking.

Orangetheory raises $12k

By Renee Larr • news@currentinfishers.com From Feb. 20 to March 5, Orangetheory Fitness in Fishers held a fundraising campaign to raise money for ALS research and an organization called giving back Augie’s Quest. Augie Nieto, CEO of Life Fitness, was diagnosed in 2005 with ALS. “All of the 600 (Orangetheory) studios came together to do this national campaign to raise awareness about ALS,” head trainer Kaity Vevang said. “There is a great relationship between Augie and some of the founders of Orangetheory because he was so big in the fitness world when he first got into the business. It struck a chord with some of the leaders of Orangetheory, and they wanted to see what they could do as far as making a difference. So they set the goal out for us as a network to raise $1 million.”

Each local studio could determine how they were going to raise funds. The Fishers studio decided to make it a competition between Vevang and Studio Manager Billy

“We wanted to put a fun spin on it. You can torture Billy or you can torture Kaity (with a workout),” Vevang said.

Studio staff quickly realized they were going to exceed its expectations, so it involved the rest of the staff.

The staff met last month to each row 2,000 meters, run/walk two miles on the treadmill and do 200 burpees.

The Fishers studio came in sixth in terms of funds raised.

Team to fundraise for patient

By Renee Larr • news@currentinfishers.com Every year, the Fishers High School baseball team holds its Strike Out Kancer game.

The event will take place at 6 p.m. April 28 during the varsity philanthropy baseball game. The event raises money for local cancer-related causes.

“Every year we pick a game to raise money for something cancer-related. In the past, we always used to donate to the American Cancer Society. Then last year we started picking a foundation around the area or someone close to Fishers High School to support,” FHS baseball coach Matthew Cherry said. “This year we’re going to be raising money for Halle Guilliam, whose older sister is a softball player here at FHS. Halle’s fighting cancer now.”

Guilliam was diagnosed with medulloblastoma in 2016. She is being treated at Riley Hospital for Children and Northwestern University. She’s undergone extensive surgery and chemotherapy.

“The funds raised from this event will go directly to Halle’s family to help offset the costs surrounding childhood cancer treatment, and everything that goes with it. Halle has requested we take a portion of

the funds raised and donate it to the MakeA-Wish Foundation,” event co-coordinator Amy Roudebush said.

Guests can sponsor an inning of the game in memory or honor of a loved one.

There will be a silent auction. Cancer survivors are invited onto the field during the national anthem.

“Halle always has a smile on her face, even on the toughest days she will crack a smile,” Halle’s mom Kara stated in an email to Current.

Never run a marathon?

Well, you can do it

Regardless of your current level of physical activity, the idea of running a marathon shouldn’t scare you. But it’s a process. The key is to start fitness small and work your way toward endurance very gradually — and by gradually, I mean at least a year or more.

For those who are not so active, it’s a good idea to consult your primary care provider before beginning any new exercise program. Having said that, a good starting point would be to walk 10 to 15 minutes, three days a week. This may take several weeks, but when you do feel energized enough to up your routine, try brisk walking for 30 minutes, five days a week.

The next step is to incorporate running.

Combine a walking/running routine for a few more weeks before you increase distance and endurance. Then gradually build up to a weekly long run, from 10 to 15 miles per week at a slower pace that lets your body adjust. On rest days, keep moving,

whether it’s a casual walk, swim or bike ride. Endurance is about building distance rather than speed, and eventually you could be running 20 or so miles per week.

The right shoes Yes, you really need to invest in proper running shoes. Consultants at a specialty running store, such as BlueMile, will put you on a treadmill to analyze your gait and stride to recommend the best shoe for you. No matter where you shop, expect to invest at least $100 in a pair of shoes and replace them as soon as the tread shows signs of wear.

One more note: Don’t buy brand new shoes for race day. Wear the type and brand of shoes you trained in, and break them in a few weeks beforehand.

“I just wanted to branch out and do my own thing,” Jones said. “So far it’s been a good first few weeks.”

Housing data released – Housing data issued by the MIBOR Realtor Association (MIBOR) for central Indiana in February 2017 shows an increase in pending sales of 4.3 percent, while closed sales remained unchanged.

There were 1,984 closed sales in central Indiana in February. Closed sales in the three months ending in February increased by 2.9 percent.

Mac n’ cheese festival comes to Hamilton County

By Heather Collins news@currentinfishers.com Hamilton County cheese lovers, rejoice and unite. Return of the Mac will hit Hamilton County June 3. food Chef’s Night Off and MOKB Presents have announced that Noblesville will be the next stop for Return of the Mac, a food festival dedicated to mac n’ cheese.

“I’ve spent the last four years working with the upper echelon of the region’s food scene and realized I had been alienating the average diner,” said R.J. Wall, festival co-founder and Chef’s Night Off Ambassador of Awesome. “So I thought and thought about what is the most loved food in America that translates well to a festival style event? Duh! Mac n’ cheese.”

Wall said he believes Indiana is a perfect state to represent the average American who loves comfort food.

“I’ll bet my bottom dollar that the lion’s share of Indiana’s population loves mac n’ cheese,” Wall said.

It turns out Hoosiers really do love mac n’ cheese. Earlier this year, the festival soldout in Bloomington and Indianapolis, with the Indy festival selling out in less than an hour. Hamilton County will be the final 2017 stop for the festival.

“I think Hamilton County is an underserved market with a lot fun people and families looking to get out and have a

great time,” Wall said. “There are so many great facilities and an abundance of awesome, locally owned restaurants to work with.”

During the event, attendees can sample cheesy goodness from 25 Noblesville and north Indianapolis restaurants. The mac n’ cheese creations will be judged by a panel of local foodies who will determine the winner of the “Golden Noodle.” Residents can vote in the Yelp! Crowd Favorite Competition. Some participating restaurants include The Local, Barley Island, Four Day Ray, The Coterie and Rail Epicurean.

Return of the Mac will be 1-5 p.m. June 3 at the Federal Hill Commons, at 175 Logan St. in Noblesville. The Federal Hill Commons also will host the Noblesville Main Street Farmer’s Market and a free concert by the rock band 16 Candles.

Tickets are $25 for general admission, $40 for VIP Early Entry tickets and children under the age of six are free.

DNK Presents premieres film April 14

Danielle Walter Nolan and EVENT Kate Nolan, owners of Indianabased outdoor adventure company DNK Presents, ask their clients that very question at the beginning of each new journey.

Danielle and Kate are wilderness guides, certified mountain bike instructors, and Leave No Trace trainers, among several other certifications.

DNK Presents offers trips for men and women, but specializes in all-female adventures. According to Danielle, many women were coming on the trips and having big breakthrough moments while challenging themselves.

“The women who were originally hesitant to come on these trips were the ones

having more periods of growth,” Danielle said.

Danielle and Kate decided to offer a trip specifically for women who would not typically sign up for a trip on their own. In the spring of 2016, DNK Presents hosted

its inaugural women’s adventure contest in Indiana. Women had to be nominated by someone. Danielle said in a short amount of time, more than 60 nominations came in. Four women were chosen for a fourday customized adventure guided by DNK Presents.

The “Live Adventurously” film was made over the course of the weekend trip. The film follows the transformational journey of the four women and their experiences throughout the weekend.

“Live Adventurously” premieres April 14 at the Indianapolis Museum of Art, in its outdoor amphitheater. In case of inclement weather, it will be in the Toby Theater.

HCAA, Unique pair for fundraiser

“My daughter is 4 years old and she is special needs. She has a very rare chromosomal abnormality,” said Tredup, a Fishers resident. “Unique has helped my family tremendously with research and putting us in touch with other families who are afflicted with my daughter’s disease.”

Tredup, a landscape photographer, is the membership chair for the Hamilton County Arts Association. So she suggested dual fundraisers for the organizations.

“It was met with overwhelming approval,” Tredup said.

Basketball legends Bob Knight and Gene Keady came together for a special one-night-only evening at the Palladium, and Where’s Amy had “courtside” seats to cover the action. The sold-out event was moderated by Bob Hammel, and everyone who attended loved listening to stories about the past Indiana University and Purdue University basketball seasons. The two coaches had the crowd in stitches with their memories and although they were rivals on the court it was clear that they both have Josh Vetor (Fishers), Taylor Wilson (Fishers), a great admiration for each other and have Andy Vetor (Carmel) and Brian Augspurger sealed their legacies on the hardwood.

“MOTOWN The Musical” rolled into Indianapolis and Where’s Amy scored an exclusive photo shoot with Indiana native Broadway stars Chester Gregory (Gary) and Raymond Davis Jr. (Indianapolis).

Gregory and Davis Jr., shined in their roles and said it was an honor to be back home in Indiana to perform at the iconic Murat Old National Centre.

The story revolves around the life of Motown founder Berry Gordy’s journey from featherweight boxer to heavyweight music mogul. Helaunched the careers of Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more. The songs of Motown brought the world together and made us all move to the same beat. I loved running into the fabulous Daniel Klingler (Indianapolis), who designed several wigs and hairpieces for the Broadway production.

Prep time: 30 minutes Servings: 24 Ingredients: 1 package (12 ounces) white confectionary coating wafers, 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened, 2 teaspoons McCormick Pure Vanilla Extract, 1 box (16 ounces) confectioners’ sugar, 1 jar (7 ounces) marshmallow creme, 1 teaspoon Sunflower color from McCormick Color from Nature Food Colors, 2 tablespoons milk, plus additional (optional), 48 unfrosted mini yellow cupcakes, baked in white paper liners, sprinkles (optional), additional McCormick Color from Nature Food Colors (optional).

Directions: To make broken egg shell pieces: melt coating wafers as directed on package. Spread on large foil-lined baking sheet to 1/4-inch thickness. Refrigerate about 10 minutes, or until firm. Break into small, irregular pieces. Set aside.

In large bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add vanilla; mix well. Gradually beat

in confectioners’ sugar, beating until well blended after each addition, frequently scraping sides and bottom of bowl. Beat in marshmallow creme until well-blended. In small bowl, stir food color into milk until dissolved. Add colored milk to frosting; beat until light and fluffy. Stir in additional milk, as needed, to reach desired consistency.

To decorate cupcakes: spoon frosting into large pastry bag fitted with large round tip. Pipe two dollops of frosting on top of each other to form baby chick. If desired, insert sprinkles into face for eyes and beak. Or tint any remaining frosting with food colors to pipe out eyes and beak.

Place coating wafer pieces around bottom of baby chick to resemble broken egg shell.

The goal for these areas was to improve functionality, update the aesthetics to the homeowners’ preferred style and strategically design the aesthetics to feel continuous throughout both spaces.

3. In the adjacent powder bath, a new vanity, champagne bronze plumbing fixtures and a mesmerizing light fixture add a beautiful elegance to that space.

The new cabinetry stain color in the powder bath matches the color in the laundry room.

4. For an added aesthetic that ties into other elements in the home, a reclaimed wood accent wall was installed and stained to coordinate with both the new cabinet color and the existing floor.

Tower Bridge is one of the most recognizable symbols of London. Often confused with the London Bridge that travel was always falling down, Tower Bridge is a marvel of 19th century engineering.

London planners wanted a bridge across the River Thames just east of the Tower of London that would accommodate tall ships sailing to the port at the London Pool.
