Mayor addresses downtown infrastructure

By Leila Kheiry leila@youarecurrent.com Ongoing developments in downtown and Grand Park and the 2027 city budget were among the topics Westfield Mayor Scott Willis addressed during his July 16 quarterly town hall meeting.

PARK STREET Construction on the city’s downtown Park Street improvement project kicked off in mid-May and Willis said the street will become a walkable destination for residents, with live music, public outdoor seating and plenty of restaurants.

PARK & POPLAR The Park & Poplar mixed-use development kicks off this summer. The $123 million project will include office spaces, retail, restaurants, apartments and brownstone residential units.

Willis said the project is scheduled for completion in 2028 and is one of several ongoing and upcoming developments in Westfield’s core.

“A lot of things are coming to life in our downtown area,” he said. “Why should you care? It’s going to provide a lot more restaurants in our downtown area. Because we’ll have people living and working in our downtown. It’s going to bring in more restaurants and more activities for families in the area.

But also, it finally provides a solution for parking.”

A Planned Unit Development for the project was approved in spring 2025.

Part of the agreement calls for a $22 million, 523-space parking garage and a pedestrian plaza to be paid for by the city, with $11 million generated by tax increment financing.

Willis said parking garages are a key component to development, adding that the community will be careful when choosing which projects to support.

“We are not creating a Carmel,” he said. “I love Carmel. It’s a fantastic city.

I like Fishers. I like Noblesville. We will be very unique to those communities.

We’re going to have a lot of green space, a lot of walkable activities for the families. Yes, we will also have some components of what we were accustomed to see in other downtown areas — that is the model for developing a downtown today — but we’re going to be uniquely Westfield.”

“restaurant row,” and Willis said even more options are expected to open.

Plans call for the brick-paved road to be closed to vehicle traffic in the evenings Thursday through Sunday, to provide a pedestrian-plaza atmosphere.

“It’s just going to be a fun place to gather and spend time with your friends and enjoy the food,” he said. “That’s going to be done this summer or this fall.”

Willis noted that landscaping for the project likely will be ongoing through spring 2027. He said the city has similar plans for nearby Jersey Street, including brick pavers and pedestrian amenities, along with a modern art project that celebrates Westfield’s history.

“I’m not an art guy,” Willis stressed, “Oftentimes, I look at art, I scratch my head and say, ‘I’m not sure how you got that, but OK.’ But this was one you could actually look at it, you could put the story together.”

Indiana artist Aaron S. Coleman has been selected to create the public sculpture to honor the city’s Underground Railroad heritage. Called “Hold the Stars,” the art piece will be made with white oak and stainless steel and will be installed at the Grand on Main development.

The artwork features two hands cupped together surrounding a lighted representation of the Big Dipper constellation, which was used by escaping enslaved people to help find their way north.

GRAND PARK DEVELOPMENT The city is moving forward with creating a Grand Park District, which will create a walkable sports-centered development zone next to Grand Park Sports

Campus. Willis said the development will benefit the whole community.

“We want people living, working and playing inside of Grand Park,” he said.

“That will bring more restaurants to Grand Park. That will bring more tourism options for those who come into Grand Park, and — guess what — you’re not fighting kids with cleats in the restaurants or fighting the traffic that comes every weekend into Grand Park because of all the activities happening there.”

Instead, he said, Grand Park visitors will stay in the district for meals and other activities.

Keystone Construction will build the first mixed-use development in the district, with restaurants and retail on the main level and apartments above. A parking garage is included in the plan, he said, because the development will be built on what’s now a parking lot.

2027 BUDGET Preliminary planning for the city’s 2027 budget has begun, Willis said, and he will review each department budget before the spending plan is presented to the public and to the Westfield City Council.

Willis said the fiscal impact of Senate Enrolled Act 1 has not been fully felt by the community. He said there was some revenue reduction this year, mitigated in part by growth that will lead to a slight increase in 2027 revenue.

“But in 2028, we fall off a cliff,” he said. “We’re anticipating about $8 to $10 million — not $8 to 10 million more; it’s eight to $10 million less — and right now, I don’t know how we’re going to deal with that. Legislators keep saying they’re going to make some tweaks, so we’re trying not to overreact.”

However, he said, the city is looking at cuts now, just in case those tweaks don’t happen.

“We can’t just chop our knees off in one year and take that cut,” he said. “We’ve got to start easing into it, start adjusting how we function as a city. But what I commit to every single one of you, is, we’re looking at the budget from the lens of if this directly impacts our residents, we don’t cut it.”

Westfield receives $121K DHS grant news@currentinwestfield.com The City of Westfield has been awarded a $121,500 grant from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security State Homeland Security Program to support technology upgrades for the city’s new Emergency Operations Center, part of the new Westfield Police Department headquarters.

WPD’s new $35 million headquarters is under construction, with completion expected in 2027.

The grant funds will be used for updated communication tools, digital displays, secure access technology and other equipment for Westfield police, fire, emergency management, Informatics Department and regional partners to share information and coordinate effectively during emergencies, according to a news release.

“This investment will help ensure our public safety teams have reliable technology and timely information when every second matters,” Mayor Scott Willis stated. “As Westfield continues to grow and host major events, we must also continue strengthening

our ability to prepare for and respond to emergencies. We appreciate the Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s support of this important project.”

The EOC will serve as a central location for coordinating responses to severe weather, public safety incidents, cyber threats, large-scale events and other emergencies. The grant-funded improvements will make it easier for multiple agencies to work together, view the same information and make

informed decisions in real time, the news release stated.

The project also will strengthen the city’s technology systems by improving reliability, protecting sensitive information and reducing the risk of interruptions during an emergency.

The State Homeland Security Program provides federal funding for state and local agencies to prepare for, protect against and respond to terrorism, natural disasters and other major emergencies.

Condition scans planned for Westfield roads

By Leila Kheiry leila@youarecurrent.com The City of Westfield is renewing a contract with StreetScan USA, which scans city roadways, rates their condition and provides an online platform for the city to prioritize projects.

The city’s Board of Public Works approved the contract, pending legal review, after a July 22 presentation by Director of Engineering Michael Pearce, who said the city contracts a new scan every two years to update condition ratings on all of the city’s roadways.

“We are due for a new scan this year,” he said. “The total cost of the scan is $60,380, (which is) in line with what we’d expect to pay as we grow and continue to add 10 to 15 miles of street a year to our system.”

A licensing fee to use the related software adds another $16,000, which Pearce said is comparable to other systems.

“It’s a nice online software, because you can track all of the previous maintenance you’ve done on those roadways,” he said. “You can plan future maintenance. It’s a color-coded system based on condition, so you can see where our roads that are in more need of attention are easily. You can filter those down through the system and just focus on those, specifically. So, it’s worked well for us.”

Pearce said before contracting with Massachusetts-based StreetScan, city employees did the work manually.

“Our staff would drive every road in the city every year and give a condition rating,” he said. “As we get to over 300 centerline miles of road, that becomes a bigger and bigger job for us. So, there’s a lot of benefits from a staffing standpoint to have something like this.”

New development planned on Eagletown Road

By Leila Kheiry leila@youarecurrent.com A new development in Westfield is moving forward after a rezone was introduced July 27, with plans calling for up to 270 new homes on 127 acres on the west side of Eagletown Road south of 186th Street.

The Westfield City Council reviewed the proposal for the Eagle West neighborhood in first reading during its July 27 meeting. Ryan Collingwood, associate city planner with the city’s Community Development Department, told the council that the development would offer single-family homes for sale, with a central amenity space, a tree preservation plan and trails that connect to existing public trails.

Jon Dobosiewicz of Nelson & Frankenberger, representing developer Pulte Homes, told the council that the development would include about 45 acres of open and green space and two lot types — one for homes with front-loading garages and one for homes with side-loading garages.

Dobosiewicz said the proposed homes would have between 2,300 and 3,300 square feet of living space, and would sell for between $450,000 and $600,000.

Neighborhood access would be through entry points on Eagletown Road and 186th Street.

Plans call for multiuse public paths along the various roads and internal paths within the development, according to the project narrative.

“An amplitude of amenities are provided within Eagle West to create a welcoming and connected community environment,” the project narrative stated. “A centralized pool and pool house as well as pickleball courts, a playground, dog park and gathering

shelter have been designed to enhance the community.”

A public hearing on the proposed rezone request was scheduled for Aug. 3 in front of the Westfield Plan Commission, with a Plan Commission workshop set for Sept. 21. The commission is expected to vote on a recommendation Oct. 5, with the rezone tentatively returning to the council Oct. 12.

Some councilors expressed concern that they hadn’t been told about the proposed development before it was placed on the agenda. They noted that they usually meet individually with developers ahead of time to discuss projects.

Dobosiewicz said he had met with councilors about the project the previous year, but Pulte chose to hold off on it while the city went through its comprehensive plan process. He added that he still could sit down with councilors to discuss details.

Make-A-Wish grants local girl’s Disney dream

In 1980, a 7-year-old boy from Arizona, Chris James Greicius, was battling leukemia, and his illness ended up changing the path for millions of children facing critical illnesses around the globe.

Greicius wanted to someday be a police officer, and his community came together to make his wish come true.

Today, that organization has expanded and operates a nonprofit organization, Make-A-Wish, to help grant the wishes of other children with critical illnesses.

Westfield resident Scarlett Bir, 6, is one such child. At age 3, she was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor, which has required a mix of chemotherapy and radiation. At the onset of her diagnosis, Scarlett’s aunt submitted her name and story for consideration to Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.

“We serve any child with a critical illness,” said Leslie Hurst, Vice President of Advancement at Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. “Any other background on the child with a critical illness, such as socio-economic background, doesn’t matter. As long as you are a child with a critical illness within that three-state area, within our chapter, it is our vision and our mission to grant life-changing wishes for any child with a critical illness.”

Wish recipients meet with a Make-AWish “wish granter” so the child can tell them their one true wish. Bir’s wish was to visit Disney World and, along with her family, she went in May 2024. Bir’s diagnosis limited what she could do, but her family found ways to make the visit safe.

“We did all of the character meals and she rode all the rides,” said Sam Bir, Scarlett’s mom. “We made it a ‘yes’ trip for her. We let her do whatever she wanted. We would give her a little bit of redirection if it was something outrageous, so we wouldn’t have to say no.”

everything they need to simply enjoy the trip and their time together. If the child needs special accommodations, MakeA-Wish plans for that, too. Volunteers work behind the scenes to make it all happen.

Bir’s trip with Make-A-Wish served as the family’s transition outside of their “bubble.” While Bir was going through treatment, the family spent much of their time at the hospital or at home, not venturing too far for fear of her getting sick because she was immunocompromised.

“We didn’t come back with a single illness,” Sam said. “It gave us confidence to do things in the world again. If we can survive Disney World, we felt like we could do anything. After that, we came back and she had a good MRI. It was her best MRI she’d had.”

Often, Make-A-Wish impacts the whole family, not only the child whose wish was granted.

“A wish can restore hope and it can strengthen families and create joyful memories that last long after the wish itself,” Hurst said. “You forget how you take your health for granted until you don’t have it and then it impedes everything that you want to do. It positively impacts the entire family, not just the wish kid. The entire family is impacted by one child’s critical illness.”

“Wind and Wonder Day will be a breezy afternoon of creativity and fun, featuring multiple activity stations inspired by the whimsical theme of wind,” a city news release stated. “Attendees are encouraged to explore at their own pace, enjoy the outdoors and engage in hands-on experiences for children and families.”

Activities will include: • Decorate and fly colorful kites • Create colorful pinwheels • Build simple windchimes with beads, strings, bells and craft materials • Fly paper airplanes • Play with bubbles and giant bubble wands

Kite-making materials will be provided, but participants also can bring their own kites.

“Wind and Wonder Day is a great example of the creativity our Parks and Recreation team brings to Westfield,” Mayor Scott Willis stated. “I am especially proud that this new program was developed by one of our interns, giving her the opportunity to turn an idea into a meaningful experience for our community.”

“I have enjoyed the opportunities this internship has given me to give back to the community,” Van Ostrand stated.

Fittingly, the latest category to encourage creativity is called Outside the Box, said Sandra Pirkle, who handles publicity for the Coxhall Guild.

The eighth annual Posh Picnic is set from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Coxhall Gardens Cripe Pavilion tent at 11677 Towne Rd. in Carmel. The event, for adults only, is a fundraiser to benefit the Coxhall property and Hamilton County Parks and Recreation.

The challenge is for the guests at each table to design their own tablescape to be judged. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner, whether casual or elegant, along with drinks of their choice. The early setup period is 2 to 4 p.m. Music will be provided by MGS DJs. The other three judged categories are People’s Choice, On the Road Again and Most Posh.

‘Dream Home’ open to host tours in August

Local students receive future-educator scholarships news@youarecurrent.com Area students studying to become teachers are among the more than 300 recipients of the Next Generation Hoosier Educators Scholarship, a state program that supports future Indiana educators.

The scholarship program was established in 2016 and awards a renewable scholarship of up to $10,000 per year — up to $40,000 total — to high-achieving high school and college students who commit to teach in an eligible Indiana school for at least five years.

This year, more than 1,000 students applied, representing more than 300 high schools in 90 of Indiana’s 92 counties, according to a news release.

Unified 4-H debuts strong

By Jessica Todd jessica@youarecurrent.com In its first year, the Unified 4-H program was a success at the Hamilton County Fair July 16-20, according to organizers.

Unified 4-H is a new program in Hamilton County designed to make 4-H more inclusive for youth in third through 12th grade. The program follows a mentoring model similar to Unified sports programs, pairing youth participants — champions — with experienced 4-H members or trained volunteers.

Champions participated in two fair showcase days, displaying projects ranging from cake decorating, gardening and scrapbooking and showing livestock like rabbits and sheep.

Kathleen Bohde, 4-H youth development extension educator, said the program has been considered for many years.

“We have been researching how other counties have implemented a program similar to this,” Bohde said. “Last year, we were able to do some site visits to Hancock County’s Poss-Abilities program, and we wanted to then bring it back here to Hamilton County. The timing was just right for us to launch this program.”

Twenty-three mentors and 15 champions participated in the program, which is supported by the Love Like Lucy Fund, a memorial fund honoring the life of late 4-H member Lucy Koch, a Westfield resident who died in 2024.

“Lucy Koch was a third-grade, firstyear 4-H member before she passed away,” Bohde said. “We wanted to celebrate her legacy as a 4-H’er by utilizing her memorial funds to be the catalyst behind the start of the program. It has

been a great honor to celebrate and remember her in that special way.”

Chandra Manges, a Unified 4-H committee member, said the program had many successes in its first year. Her daughter, Kendall, was a mentor.

“Kendall is president of Champions Together at Fishers High School, and several of the kids from Champions Together were excited to be part of the Unified 4-H program,” Manges said.

“They had come to see Kendall at the fair years prior to support her, so now we got to tell them they were a 4-H’er just like her, and they were so proud to exhibit a project.”

Bohde said plans are underway to expand project offerings and start the program earlier.

“We want to create 4-H opportunities for kids with all abilities to learn and grow so they can thrive in their community,” Bohde said. “Unified 4-H isn’t about changing who someone is. It’s about creating opportunities for every young person to discover what they can become. Adding the program with mentorship alongside youth has enriched our programs and created more culture for us to be accepting to all as we have always been in the past.”

Diocese asks judge to reconsider pseudonymity

By Ann Marie Shambaugh AnnMarie@youarecurrent.com The defendants in a civil suit that alleges unchecked bullying of a student at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic School in Carmel have requested a judge reconsider a decision to allow the adult plaintiffs to use a pseudonym.

Attorneys for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lafayette-In-Indiana; Trudy Schouten Young, diocese superintendent of schools; the Rev. Richard Doerr, OLMC pastor; OLMC Principal Timothy Fletcher; and OLMC Assistant Principal Deanna Cotter filed the motion to reconsider June 30.

The lawsuit, filed by the student’s parents, accuses OLMC officials and the diocese of failing to adequately address and prevent intensifying harassment of their son that became sexual in nature.

The parents are identified as James Doe and Julie Doe in the suit.

The defendants argue that pseudonymity is an “extraordinary, disfavored exception” and that the plaintiffs’ seeking media coverage of the case is a contradiction to “any desire for privacy.”

“They demanded publicity, actively seeking widespread news coverage that not only broadcasted their complaint’s most ‘sensitive’ allegations to the general public, but added counsel’s inflammatory commentary going so far as to invoke Jesus’ name in support of their claims — thus implicitly accusing

Defendant of not only legal negligence, but also religious malfeasance and hypocrisy,” the motion states.

The defendants do not object to pseudonymity for the student, because he is a minor. Attorneys for the plaintiffs argued in their response to the motion that identifying the parents would naturally identify the student.

“Plaintiffs brought a matter of genuine public concern to light while doing exactly what the law encourages: protecting a child from being personally identified as the victim of sexual harassment and assault,” the response states. “The Diocese’s motion would punish that responsible course by exposing the very minor the Court has protected by making his parents’ names public.”

Current contacted the diocese for comment on the motion but did not receive a response before time of publication.

Tammy Meyer, an attorney for the plaintiffs, described the defendants’ motion to disallow pseudonyms as “deeply disappointing.”

“Families should never have to fear that seeking justice will expose their children to even more trauma,” Meyer stated. “If schools respond this way when parents speak up, other families may think twice before reporting bullying. That should concern every parent.”

A hearing on the motion to reconsider pseudonymity is set for 10 a.m. Aug. 5 in Hamilton County Superior Court 2.

By Hannah VanLandingham hannah@youarecurrent.com Parks and Recreation became its own department within the City of Westfield in January 2024. A little more than two years later, it has launched a successful internship program, designed to provide students with meaningful work experience.

Adria Van Ostrand and Charlotte Greer are this year’s Parks and Recreation summer interns. The program is coordinated by Westfield Markets Manager Molly O’Connor, who also is the interns’ supervisor.

Birdcall eyes franchises in Fishers, Westfield, Carmel news@currentinfishers.com Colorado-based fast-casual restaurant chain Birdcall is expanding into the Greater Indianapolis area, with site selection in process in the Carmel-Fishers-Westfield corridor.

According to Birdcall, a multi-unit franchise agreement for five restaurants has been signed for the Indy metro area.

“Leading the development is Nikunj Patel, an experienced franchise operator and owner of multiple Nekter Juice Bar locations in the Chicagoland area,” a news release stated. “He is partnering with an accomplished multiunit, multistate restaurant group with a proven track record of successfully developing and operating dozens of franchise locations across the Midwest.”

In addition to Hamilton County, areas in the southern part of the metro area are under consideration.

“This partnership represents exactly where Birdcall is headed,” stated Justin Livingston, vice president of franchise development. “Nikunj has built an impressive business of his own and shares our passion for operational excellence and thoughtful growth.”

What actually is a stye?

Column by Dr. Kennedy Penny A stye — also known in medical terms as a hordeolum — is a common, often uncomfortable bump that develops along the eyelid. It occurs when one of the tiny oil glands near the base of your eyelashes becomes blocked and infected.

Although a stye can look alarming, it’s typically harmless and responds well to simple treatments. Still, guidance from an optometrist can make the healing process smoother.

Most people first notice a stye as a tender, red bump that may cause swelling, tearing, itching or a gritty sensation in the eye. In many cases, it resembles a small pimple. Although it can create discomfort, a stye rarely affects your vision. The majority develop externally, at the lash line, but there also are internal styes — on the inner eyelid — that can be more painful and may take longer to heal.

Optometrists play an important role in managing styes. During an eye exam, we evaluate whether the lesion is truly a stye or another condition that

may look similar, such as a chalazion, cyst or even an eyelid infection requiring urgent care. We also assess underlying issues like eyelid inflammation or gland dysfunction, both of which can increase the likelihood of a stye reoccurring.

Treatment usually begins with warm compresses that are applied for 10 to 15 minutes several times a day. This helps soften the blocked oil and encourages natural drainage. Your optometrist also may recommend gentle lid hygiene techniques, such as using a warm, diluted cleanser designed for the eyelids.

In some cases — especially when the stye is persistent, unusually painful or accompanied by spreading redness — antibiotics may be prescribed.

There is good news — with proper care and early attention, most styes resolve quickly.

Robotic bronchoscopy allows physicians to navigate deep into the lungs with enhanced precision and stability to biopsy small or hard-to-reach nodules, according to the announcement.

Lynyrd Skynyrd keeps the music going

“Our fan base is usually (age) 8 to 80,” he said. “They come to hear ‘Simple Man,’ ‘What’s Your Name” or ‘Tuesday’s Gone,’ ’Sweet Home Alabama’ and ‘Free Bird,’” Medlocke said. “Every night, the songs take on a little bit of a change to keep it fresh. I just love entertaining the audience and making them feel great.”

Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foreigner are co-headliners on the “Double Trouble Double Vision” tour, which lands at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 7 at Noblesville’s Ruoff Music Center. Six Gun Sally is the opener.

“We go last every night,” Medlocke said. “They wanted it that way. (Foreigner) didn’t want to follow ‘Free Bird.’”

Medlocke, 76, played drums with Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1971-72 and left to rejoin his group Blackfoot. He returned to Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1996 as a guitarist at the urging of original member Gary Rossington, who died at age 71 in 2023.

“I love to see the audience feeling good and being happy about it,” Medlocke said. “I have often said this, if it wasn’t for the fans, we might be digging ditches or doing whatever else.”

Medlocke said the music Lynyrd Skynyrd created in the mid-1970s was remarkable. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, one of the primary songwriters, was killed in a 1977 plane crash along with two other band members Steve Gaines and sister Cassie Gaines, two pilots and the band’s road manager.

Rossington and other band members Allen Collins, Leon Wilkeson, Billy Powell and Artimus Pyle were seriously injured.

“I always called Ronnie a Southern poet. He just had that gift,” Medlocke said. “Ronnie could paint a picture in front of you that you could see with words and he was just a genius in my book.”

‘THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG’

Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie’s younger brother, has been the band’s lead singer since 1987.

Medlocke rejects any talk of Lynyrd Skynyrd being called a cover band.

“Johnny and I feel we are Lynyrd Skynyrd and we can lay claim to that,” he said. “We’ve talked about it and we’d like to take it on to another three to five years, and then after that, you never know. As long as everyone keeps their health and does what they need to do, we’ll keep going forward.”

Medlocke said he has excellent physicians.

“I’ve adopted a certain protocol for eating, taking care of myself and getting as much rest as I can,” he said. “I can’t stand being idle. I have to be doing something, creating music on the side and writing songs for soundtracks.

Then my other passion is the sports world. I’m heavy into fishing and that keeps me going.”

PERFECT FIT It seems natural that Six Gun Sally would open for Lynyrd Skynyrd and Foreigner.

The band, which formed in 1992, draws inspiration from Southern rock and classic rock of the 1970s.

“It’s a great opportunity to showcase

our music and our band,” said Dave Barbe, the bandleader and drummer. “I’ve loved Lynyrd Skynyrd since I was a kid and still love them now. Our music fits well. The audience is receptive to us.”

Aimee Jane Williams, the lead singer, joined the band in 2024.

“I feel so blessed,” she said. “I wasn’t there for the hard, hard work that the guys put in to get to the place we are now. I think our music is better than ever. It felt like a dream come true to join in with these guys after many years.”

Barbe said Williams has a threepronged attack.

“She sings well, looks well and writes well,” he said.

Six Gun Sally’s set includes some original songs and covers, such as the Allman Brothers’ “Ramblin’ Man” and Jefferson Airplane’s “Somebody to Love.”

“We love the way Aimee does Janis Joplin’s ‘Piece of my Heart,’” Barbe said.

The band opens its set with its latest single “Sittin’ Pretty.”

“It’s the perfect song to come out to, it’s just fun,” Williams said. “Sometimes, some of the best songs are written so quickly and we’re laughing the whole time.”

Thoughtful comedy set for CCP

“Native Gardens” by Karen Zacarías is a comedy focused on two married couples who live on either side of a shared fence. The show tackles heavy issues like class, race and immigration in a light-hearted manner, encouraging the audience to enjoy the humor as well as reflect on the issues presented.

“This is very character-driven, extremely, and they hit on like diversity; just about everything gets in there, but somehow no one’s really offended or anything,” director Lori Raffel said. “I read it, and I just fell in love with it. It’s very funny (and) it touches everything that’s going on today, everything.”

The play runs Aug. 7-16 at The Cat, 254 Veterans Way, Carmel.

The show is performed by four lead actors playing the Butleys, an older couple who have lived in their house for quite some time; and the Del Valles, a younger Latino couple who have just moved to the area.

Oscar Otero portrays Pablo Del Valle, an immigrant who grew up affluent, who states that he only became a minority after his move to the United States.

“I’ve never played a Latino on stage before, and to do a show that’s very centric on Latino roots and background and identity really made me want to do the show,” Otero said.
