Efficient group therapy and parallel treatment

Therapeutic games in virtual reality

CUREO ® is based on two important elements for successful therapy: gamification and virtual reality.

Gamification means that playful elements are used in a context that is not normally associated with games. This is achieved through the use of game design elements such as the awarding of points, competition with others, special game rules, and graphical performance overviews.

We utilize these elements with CUREO ® to increase patient motivation and treatment adherence: We promote intrinsic motivation with a constant stream of new challenges, thereby playfully reinforcing patients‘ therapeutic success.

In the field of therapy research, virtual reality (VR) has developed into a steadily growing research focus over the last 10 years. With regard to VR technology development, studies emphasize the advantages for neurological rehabilitation as well as the remarkable practicability and variety of applications of virtual tools for successful therapy. Motor training is also of specific interest to many researchers, as VR therapy is a particularly resource-efficient option simply due to the accessibility of the devices. Muscle strength and tone are improved through neuroplastic changes and increased motivation, while pain is significantly reduced through distraction and neuroregulation. The possible applications are therefore diverse and particularly exciting for rehabilitation.

Caesar van Heyningen

„CUREOSITY aims to bring smiles to patients‘ faces, to enable sustainable progress, and to make therapy easy and efficient for health professionals. Although we have already accomplished this goal with CUREO® , we continue to work on expanding the boundaries of what is therapeutically possible.”

Prof. Dr. med. Björn Hauptmann

Chief Physician for Parkinson‘s & Movement Disorders Segeberger Kliniken

“I was convinced by the motivational idea that it is fun for the patients and that it can be individually adapted to the patients‘ abilities. In contrast to other device-based therapies, there are no long set-up times and it fits very well into everyday life.”

EXPERIENCES WITH CUREO®

• CUREO® was developed with clinical partners and continuously refined based on their feedback. As a result, it meets the high clinical standards and requirements.

• CUREO® is already the most widely used VR therapy system for sensorimotor and cognitive therapy in German clinics.

• In 2023 alone, it is estimated that over 200,000 therapy sessions were conducted with CUREO®. One particular advantage is its use throughout all stages of rehabilitation. This allows for lowrisk therapy starting from the early phase of rehabilitation for immobilized patients in hospital beds, and can be progressively used through to the follow-up care of less impaired patients.

• CUREO® is robust, mobile, and easy to disinfect - just perfect for everyday clinical use.

Successful use of the hand module in occupational therapy

CUREO® hand module

Training “Blopp”

• This picture shows the “Blopp” finger training program, which patients use to train the fine motor skills of their fingertips and hands

• Due to the color coding and increasing complexity, the training can also be considered as a cognitive training

• In addition to “ Blopp”, the module was extanded with trainings for individual hand movements and hand combination movements, which can also be combined with electrotherapy

• For particularly severely impaired patients, there is the hand simulation, which aims to initiate movements through visualization

• The hand module is particularly popular in occupational therapy practices and can be ideally supplemented with the mirror therapy function

Please find the overview of all existing modules on pages 38 – 39 in this brochure.

EXPERIENCES WITH CUREO®

The solution: CUREO ®

• You have a high volume of patients and a high therapy cycle.

• Frequent short-term absences or long-term vacancies may lead to high pressure and/or a risk of profit loss.

• Thanks to CUREO ® more therapy sessions per day and parallel documentation can be performed.

• This takes the pressure off your staff and enables a higher therapy frequency.

• With modern methods, you not only attract patients, but also new staff, because CUREO ® makes therapy creative, motivating, and versatile for both patients and your therapists.

active

Our “active” module is suitable for severely affected patients. Even in early rehabilitation, it stimulates and activates attention and supports the reduction of neglect. Therapy can be carried out using gaze guidance.

moto

Our “moto” module includes bi- and unilateral motor training of the upper extremities and supports the training of active and targeted motor skills in motivating therapy games.

adl

With our “adl” module, everyday situations such as using tools or everyday objects are practiced in a virtual environment, e.g. a therapy kitchen. Various everyday fine motor movements can be practiced with the adl cube.

Areas of care

• Acute and early rehabilitation

• Follow-up rehabilitation

• Physiotherapy

• Occupational therapy

• Neuropsychology

relax

“Relax” promotes neuroregulation, stress reduction, and pain relief and is suitable for all patients. It supports adherence and readiness for therapy thanks to explorative environments, breathing exercises, and color therapy.

Exemplary indications

• Stroke

• Neurodegenerative diseases

• (Infantile) cerebral palsy

• Injuries to the spinal cord

• Craniocerebral trauma

• Diseases of the musculoskeletal system

• Pain

hand

Our “hand” module trains fine motor skills as well as the mobility and coordination of hands and individual fingers. By carrying out manual activities, the patient practises skills such as holding and gripping (e.g. power grip and tweezers).

cogni

Our “cogni” module offers cognitive and sensory training. It promotes color and shape recognition, word finding, spatial perception, coordination, the patient‘s memory.

activities

When training with our “activities”, patients can experience small activities by immersing themselves in multisensory landscapes. The exploration can be carried out in a variety of activating, desired environments.
