A LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Peter Cowles
Looking back on the fiscal year ending on June 30th, 2022, we praise God for what He has allowed us to do together – to serve a record number of children with specialized surgeries for treatable disabilities. It has been a joy to meet many of the 1,090 families with children who received transformative surgeries this year.
The emphasis on our mission – healing the sick and proclaiming the kingdom of God – yielded significant outcomes. Overall, we saw a 45% increase in our key performance indicators in all areas compared to the average of prior years. Our outpatient clinics and three operating rooms are busy five days a week. Due to a recent lifting of restrictions on gatherings, mobile clinics resumed spreading the word about the availability of lifetransforming surgery. Even with the increase in surgeries performed over prior years, our waiting list grows each month. Truly, there is a desire and need for our world-class and compassionate services.
We specifically seek out children with limited access to care where surgery makes the difference in being able to live life to their God-given potential. In the cleft palate repair program, 70% of patients are older than age two, and many are in their teens. Most families have given up hope of ever
having a cleft palate repair. We see similar children in our clubfoot program. While early intervention is ideal, many children from rural areas are not born near a hospital with these services and do not have these opportunities for treatment.
We are on target to serve even more families this next year, perhaps increasing by another 20%. As we seek to help even more children in the Philippines whose families cannot afford surgery, this important work will only be possible with the generous support of our sponsors. Like in the other seven CURE hospitals worldwide, all children at Tebow CURE receive world-class care at no cost to their families.
With commitment and hard work, we are grateful for your partnership in fulfilling our mission to bring hope and transformation to even more families through quality medical and spiritual care.
Serving together,
Peter Cowles Executive Director

BUILDING THE FUTURE
Partnering to Serve More Children with Cleft Conditions
Around the world, approximately 200,000 babies are born yearly with cleft lip and palate. Clefts are a common congenital condition that is correctible through surgery which, if performed at an early age, can significantly restore the child’s speech and social integration. Training and resources are also available to help parents and medical professionals provide the best treatment and care for children with orofacial clefts.
Tebow CURE Hospital (TCH) provides surgery for children with treatable disabilities such as cleft lip/palate, clubfoot, and bowed legs in the Philippines. In FY 2022, 70 percent of reconstructive surgery performed at TCH involved palate repairs, many of which were untreated clefts in older children who had limited access to care.
In partnership with Smile Train, TCH hosted training workshops for orthodontists and health workers and hosted a three-day nutrition seminar conducted by Smile Train. These activities are part of a comprehensive approach to cleft care. Together, we ensure that every child born with a cleft has access to

unique medical solutions, including feeding/ nutrition services, hearing services, speech/ language therapy, psychosocial support, and dental/orthodontic care. Smile Train is a New York-based non-profit organization and charity providing corrective surgery for children with cleft lips and palates.
Lack of understanding about orofacial clefts and strong cultural beliefs lead to stigma, prejudice, and discrimination against affected children and their families, particularly in lowto middle-income countries. However, free and accessible surgical treatments, compassionate care, and training resources help children born with cleft conditions grow strong, secure, and healthy, capable of reaching their full potential.

CELEBRATING SEVEN YEARS OF IMPACT WITH PARTNERS & FRIENDS
With Special Guests Miss Universe 2017 and Miss Universe Philippines 2022
The Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao City, Philippines, has become a source of hope and healing for thousands of people. Now seven years old, the hospital has earned a record of impact that is truly worthy of celebration.
An anniversary event was held at Tebow CURE on May 2, 2022 to celebrate the outstanding service our staff and medical professionals have provided to Filipino children since 2014. In addition to leaders from Smile Train, Seeds of Dignity, Tim Tebow Foundation, and other local partners and donors, the event was made exceptionally special by a
couple of visitors: Demi-Leigh Tebow (Miss Universe 2017 and wife of Tim Tebow) and the newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines, Celeste Cortesi.
“Happy 7th Anniversary to the Tebow CURE Hospital! I am so incredibly thankful to be a part of this milestone celebration and to have had my honored guest, the newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2022 join us,” Demi-Leigh stated. “I’m so grateful that I got to spend time with the sweet children and amazing staff in Davao City.”
Tebow CURE has continually delivered excellent medical care and thoughtful ministry to the children of the Philippines. In 2020, the hospital was selected from 89 hospitals in 16 countries to receive the ‘Excellence Award for Community Involvement’ at the Hospital Management Asia Awards.
Equally astounding are the medical results of the past seven years: 6,191 surgical procedures performed on children with treatable conditions like clubfoot, cleft lip and palate, and disabilities resulting from chronic burn contractures. More than 1,000 life-changing reconstructive plastic and orthopedic surgeries are performed in a typical year.
CURE leverages its locations and expertise in under-resourced countries to help expand access to healthcare. Over the past seven years, Tebow CURE has hosted training for more than 290 health professionals. Most importantly, the hospital stewards its platform to share the love and hope of Jesus with patients, parents, and the communities it serves.
“We have accomplished so much in the past seven years, and by the grace of God, we look forward to many more years of collaboration with our partners to benefit the children of the Philippines...

HOPE FOUND AND COURAGE RESTORED
Aldrin’s Story
Aldrin was 11 years old when he expressed his childhood dream. At the time, he could not even walk or stand without falling or his legs hurting.
Aldrin was born with a rare limb condition that caused his knees and legs to bend backward. When he was younger, he could run and play tag at school, but over the years, his condition worsened. And so did the bullying. As a result, Aldrin would often skip school and hide in his room.
Thankfully, when his school implemented an antibullying policy, Aldrin’s classmates started to see and appreciate him for his endearing qualities – friendly, gregarious, and generous. Soon, Aldrin began to have many friends at school; some would even carry him to help him move around.
But, as Aldrin grew, it became more difficult and painful for him to walk. “He needed to have surgery because he was growing,” said Claire Joy, Aldrin’s mother.
“People told me surgery wouldn’t work because Aldrin’s condition was inborn,” Claire Joy shared. “So I just accepted his situation.”
Then one day, some workers at Seeds of Dignity – a Tebow CURE Hospital (TCH) partner – came to the community looking for children who had difficulty walking. That open door to care was the miracle Claire Joy had hoped for. Immediately, Aldrin got screened at TCH along with many other children. Due to the rarity of Aldrin’s condition, TCH prioritized him for surgery.

“
IF I COULD BE A SUPERHERO, I WOULD LIKE TO BE SUPERMAN
BECAUSE HE COULD FLY!”
before surgery at Tebow CURE Hospital
When Aldrin heard the good news, he said he felt “happy and nervous.” He also got excited about the possibility of riding a bicycle someday.
On January 17, 2018, Aldrin underwent a complicated surgery at TCH.
At the hospital, Aldrin and Claire Joy also heard the good news of Jesus Christ, the real Superhero, the one true Savior who heals, saves, and gives hope to anyone who believes.
When asked what he remembered from sharing the Word of God, Aldrin said, “The staff told us about Jesus healing the sick, and that God is good and we can come to Him for help.”
Now 15 years old and in junior high school, Aldrin is a young man full of life and ambition. During a recent follow-up visit, the staff at TCH were surprised to find him standing straight without any braces.
Aldrin could not be happier and more proud. “Since my surgery, I feel more accepted in the neighborhood. I can now go out with my friends instead of hiding at home!”
Truly, what seems humanly impossible is possible with God.
