THE COMMUNITY GATHERS

Welcome to worship at Centenary! We are a church for everyone. As you prepare for worship, we invite you to greet your neighbor and share the love of Christ. Please silence all mobile communication devices. PRELUDE GREETING

INTROIT

Hosanna! — Christian Gregor Hosanna, blessed is He that comes, He that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!

†CALL TO WORSHIP

Awake to the day of triumph for our Savior!

We give thanks for this day that leads to the cross. Come with your branches, hosannas, and songs! We lift our voices in praise, “Hosanna in the highest!” Fill the air with welcome to the Lord!

Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!

†HYMN OF PROCESSION

#280 All Glory, Laud and Honor — ST. THEODULPH

†AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

† GLORIA PATRI

#71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

CANTICLE

Lift High the Palms of Praise — Brad Nix Lift high the palms of praise! Hosanna! Hosanna! Sing out! Prepare the way! Hosanna! Hosanna! As he slowly rides along, people shout a joyful song. Now we add our voices strong, hosanna to the King! Let the people now rejoice. All creation find her voice. Come and make a joyful noise, hosanna to the King! Open wide the gates of every heart. Wave the palms and let the celebration start. With our strength, God’s glory we proclaim. With our might, we praise His holy name!

(Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED

Thank you for joining us in worship today. †

SCRIPTURE — John 19:29-30 & Luke 23:44-46

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

SERMON — “It Is Finished”

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT

OFFERTORY

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross — Gilbert M. Martin When I survey the wondrous cross on which the Prince of glory died, my richest gain I count but loss, and pour contempt on all my pride. Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast, save in the death of Christ, my God! All the vain things that charm me most, I sacrifice them to his blood. See, from his head, his hands, his feet, sorrow and love flow mingled down! Did e’er such love and sorrow meet, or thorns compose so rich a crown? Were the whole realm of nature mine that were a present far too small; love, so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all! Amen!

†DOXOLOGY

#95 Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow — OLD 100th Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise God, all creatures here below; praise God above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

†PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING

WE GO AS GOD’S PEOPLE INTO THE WORLD

†HYMN

#278 Hosanna, Loud Hosanna — ELLACOMBE

†BENEDICTION

†BENEDICTION RESPONSE

Ride On, Ride On in Majesty — Howard Helvey

Ride on, ride on in majesty. In lowly pomp, ride on to die, bow your meek head to mortal pain, then take, O Christ, your power and reign.
