THE

COMMUNITY

GATHERS

Welcome to worship at Centenary! We are a church for everyone. As you prepare for worship, we invite you to greet your neighbor and share the love of Christ.

† Please stand as you are able

PRELUDE

GREETING

INTROIT

My God Is a Rock — Spiritual, arr. Shaw-Parker

My God is a rock in a weary land, shelther in a time of storm. I know He is a rock in a weary land, shelter in a time of storm.

†CALL TO WORSHIP

Welcome this day to the house of our God.

We are greeted in peace and in love.

Welcome this day to the worship of our Creator.

We worship in hope and with grace.

Welcome this day to our community of faith,

Where we are sisters and brothers in Christ.

Welcome this day to the worship of God. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

†HYMN OF PROCESSION

#66 Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven — LAUDA ANIMA

†AFFIRMATION OF FAITH

We are not alone, we live in God’s world.

We believe in God: who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh, to reconcile and make new, who works in us and others by the Spirit. We trust in God. We are called to be the church: to celebrate God’s presence, to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God. Amen.

†GLORIA PATRI

#71 Glory Be to the Father — GREATOREX

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

(Children, kindergartners through third grade, are invited to exit the Sanctuary for Children’s Worship. Children will return to reserved pews in the Sanctuary at the close of worship.)

CANTICLE

You’ll Never Walk Alone (from Carousel) — Rodgers & Hammerstein When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high and don’t be afraid of the dark. At the end of the storm is a golden sky and the sweet silver song of the lark. Walk on through the wind, walk on through the rain though your dreams be tossed and blown. Walk on walk on with hope in your heart and you’ll never walk alone. You’ll never walk alone.

WE HEAR THE WORD PROCLAIMED

SCRIPTURE — Mark 4:35-41

This is the word of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

SERMON “In the Midst of a Storm”

WE RENEW OUR COMMITMENT

OFFERTORY

You Do Not Walk Alone — Elaine Hagenberg

May you see God’s light on the path ahead when the road you walk is dark. May you always hear, even in your hour of sorrow, the gentle singing of the lark. When times are hard may hardness never turn your heart to stone. May you always remember when the shadows fall You do not walk alone.

†DOXOLOGY
