RESIDENCE LIFE 2020-2021

The Residence Life staff at Cumberland University knows that choosing to live on campus is an important decision.

Nearly 500 students call CU’s campus home. Our campus features five residence halls that offer a variety of living options and experiences to support you throughout your academic career. Residential students enjoy walking to class, academic support services, dining, and athletics facilities.

Choosing to live on campus offers you a traditional college experience that is allinclusive, convenient and fun.

We are a small campus with a BIG community. Living on campus places you right in the middle of student life activities. It makes it easy to connect with your friends and participate in student organizations, honor societies, and interest groups. As a resident, you’ll be able to make an impact on campus as a leader and play a part in shaping the CU experience for all our students.

Inside this viewbook you will find information about our five residence halls, campus amenities, and campus services. We’ll walk you through applying for housing and how you can get prepared for move-in day. As you make many important decisions in the days ahead, we hope one of those decisions is to live on campus at CU.

STANDARD AMENITIES Cumberland's residence halls offer a variety of housing options. In this view book you'll find descriptions of each hall and building specific details.

APPLYING FOR Cumberland requires freshman students to live in a residence hall unless they receive documented exemption from the Office of Residence Life.

To apply for campus housing visit cumberland.edu/student-life/residencelife-housing/ and click the 'apply for residence' link. *Please note this form aids the Office of Residence Life with roommate assignments. There is a higher success rate for these assignments when the student completes the form rather than a parent or guardian.

Included in this form, you'll find your housing application, emergency contact information, housing contract, and information about paying your housing deposit fees.

Application and fees must be received prior to assignments being made.

Housing contracts must be signed by the incoming student in order to be considered accepted.

Assignments are made based on the date your housing deposit is paid.

Housing assignments for the fall semester will be available after July 1st.

Assignments for incoming spring semester students will be available after December 1st.

South Hall is a four-story, 152-bed residence hall and is for students who are at sophomore status or above. It is a coeducational facility divided by floors, and

CAMPUS

OVERVIEW

CAMPUS DINING CU offers a variety of dining options on campus with quality food and excellent customer service. Residents' meal plans are included with room and board. Options include the Phillips Dining Hall which features all-youcare-to-eat food stations, Papa John's Pizza and Mondo Subs bistro, or students can grab light snacks and beverages at the two coffee shops located in the LCC and Library.

SECURITY Cumberland University Security strives to provide a safe environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors on campus. With a rotating staff of eight officers, we patrol campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and are always available to assist you by calling 615-476-3061.

CU Security serves as the primary first responder to all emergency incidents on campus and also works in conjunction with local police, fire, and emergency medical services to resolve emergency situations that may arise. We're committed to providing high quality service for the CU campus community.

MOVE-IN In order for a student to move into the residence hall, they must: Complete their Occupancy Agreement & Emergency Contact Information Paid or have made arrangements to pay their balance for the semester with the Business Office Submitted their Immunization Records to the Admission's Office

The fall semester housing contract for residence halls begins at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, with classes beginning on Monday, August 24 2020.

Students are to check in at their assigned residence hall. The residence halls are open from 10:00 a.m. until 3 p.m. If a student expects to arrive late in the evening or at night, they should be considerate of their roommate and others while moving in. Anyone arriving

after 3 p.m. should contact the Residence Life Office to arrange check in.

Spring Move In will always take place the Sunday before classes begin. Information regarding dates and times will be emailed out with the closing information for Fall semester and again over winter break.

What To Bring It is suggested you pack what you need such as clothing, toiletries, bed and bath linens, desk supplies and organizational items. Speaking with your roommate prior to move-in will help you both with planning your space.
