The Master of Arts in Teaching
English Language Learners emphasis is designed for those seeking an initial teaching license in Tennessee who are interested in meeting the academic needs of all students, at any grade level, whose native language is not English The program mixes online and on-campus course formats and includes a semester of student teaching or one year of a job embedded clinic experience

The 36-credit hour MAT program includes practitioner-focused curriculum blended with field-based experiences and Student Teaching *The Licensure Office may require prerequisite courses for candidates from a non-education baccalaureate program

You may begin course work in either the Fall, Spring, or Summer semester Coursework and student teaching may be completed in as few as 4 semesters

Admission Requirements
Completed admissions application and acceptance to the university
Non-refundable $50 application fee
Official transcript from regionally accredited institution showing Bachelor's degree
A degree in a content area or proof of content knowledge for the type of licensure sought*
Minimum 2 75 GPA in Bachelor’s degree or 3 00 GPA in a Master’s program (if degree is present)
A combined GRE score of 290 or better with a 3.7 on the writing assessment; a minimum Miller's Analogies Test score of 380, or a passing score (established by the TN State Department of Education) on a PRAXIS II Specialty Area Content Knowledge Test for the appropriate teaching endorsement
