Donations at Work

Looking east from our beloved Hill, we see a daily reminder of what drew our College’s founders here in the first place: a town situated on America’s first superhighway: the Mississippi River. In addition to the barges moving cargo to inland and overseas ports, we also have rail freight moving through our town. To our west, the Avenue of the Saints moves people and goods by car and truck. We are on the move as a nation…and as a College!

As this issue of the Chronicle demonstrates, the spirit of innovation and generosity has not slowed down, even during the COVID pandemic. We welcomed back hundreds of alumni to “the Hill” for our first homecoming since the pandemic began. Our athletic teams have had record-breaking successes on the field and equally impressive performances in the classroom. Of course, our students in the performing arts also wowed with impressive performances on their own.

We are especially thankful for the continued support of the alumni and friends of Culver-Stockton College. You all recognize that a quality, liberal arts education is worthy of support and should be accessible to all. An anonymous donor recently gave the College $1 million to support scholarships for first-generation students and another anonymous donor gave $250K for renovations to our Robert W. Brown Performing Arts Center.

Two of our alumni and trustees, Scott Johnson ’71 and H.B. Turner ’79, both highly successful entrepreneurs, have supported our innovative spirit through a generous donation and adding their names to the Johnson-Turner IDEA Center. Projects coming from our students working in the center, community engagement work like the Great River Research Center, and the Wildcat spirit all show the sort of “can do” attitude that keeps our College and our communities moving towards a brighter future!
