Letter From the President

Small, faith-based institutions of higher learning, colleges such as Culver-Stockton College, are uniquely American contributions to higher education. The sheer size of the American continent spread out the population away from coastal cities, expanding the need for institutions to train teachers and ministers. As the primary drivers of education in the nineteenth century, churches founded hundreds of small colleges throughout the American Midwest, including Christian University which became Culver-Stockton College, to train graduates to continue to serve local communities.

Culver-Stockton College carries on this proud tradition by serving our communities in numerous ways. Each fall, on EDM Day - Everyone Doing More - our new students march down the Concourse to do service projects in our home of Canton, Mo. Our athletic teams and Greek organizations do thousands of hours of community service while also raising money for worthy causes. Our commitment to our campus, local, national and global communities is clearly one of the values of faith and the human spirit that many who come to “the Hill” appreciate the most.

As we look to our future, we are renewing our commitment to serving our community. We plan to increase our engagement through our teaching, scholarship and service. The IDEA Center will be a place in which students will tackle real-world issues from an interdisciplinary perspective. This upcoming year, for example, Culver-Stockton students will be working on a strategic plan for flood control in the Upper Mississippi Valley. Our goal is to make a concrete contribution to the economic wellbeing and quality of life while preparing a workforce who will be prepared for the dynamic world of the twenty-first century economy.

In the meantime, we are excited that we are restoring our Wildcat community to full activities and open to visitors. So, we’ll see you on “the Hill” this Fall for Homecoming!

Go Wildcats!
