The management of heritage sites demands for new and efficient ways of addressing both protection issues and development. SUSTCULT aims at improving the effectiveness of heritage sites management through the development of an integrated approach capable of balancing safeguard and enhancement of site’s resources and values in a sustainable way. The project gathers 7 heritage sites (4 of which are World Heritage) dislocated in South East Europe: Italy, Greece, Albania, Romania, FYROM, Slovenia. These sites are engaged in Management Planning as well as in promoting their heritage and generate new jobs through a participatory approach able to guarantee a shared and effective sustainable management process.

Main project activities: Setting-up of 7 Local Networks and a Transnational SEE Network to raise awareness on cultural heritage values and management issues Development and running of a Web GIS platform to build shared knowledge on heritage sites and provide support to integrated management and sustainable promotion process Definition of a Common Transnational Methodology for integrated planning and management of cultural heritage sites Development/improvement of Management Plans in partner sites as tools for effective coordination of local stakeholders and implementation of specific actions and projects design and realisation of a Transnational Training Package (on-line and on-site courses) to increase management capacity definition of a Sustainable Marketing Strategy for site-specific cultural resources based on local market analyses and business plans
