The Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad is inaugurating its heritage centre in the old walled city, which will train French-speaking female tourist guides. In partnership with the National Indian Association, AFA will become both a training centre and the city’s francophone tourism office. Mayor of Ahmedabad Smt. Bijal Patel will inaugurate the venue this Sunday 8 March on the occasion of the International Women’s day and Mr. Bonneval, a guide speaker approved by the French Ministry of Culture, will give an interactive presentation of this profession. It is a symbolic event that launches a partnership between the Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad and the municipality to participate in the development of tourism in the 1st Indian city classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

KARPATT
19th March 2020 Details to be announced
For nearly 20 years now, the KARPATT trio has been travelling the roads of the World, distilling, through its songs, its contagious energy to an increasing audience. French song, Gypsy jazz, rock and today exploring South American rhythms, with small electro touches here and there, there are no borders in the music of KARPATT who composes according to desires, but also travel and meetings. With KARPATT, we laugh after shivering, we approach childhood memories, we meet a friend who left too early, we fall in love... we just live ! At the end of each concert, there is always this joy, this desire to share, this desire to be happy. Will you get some sun? Their eighth album "VALPARAISO" was released in 2019.
Food Art Expo
by Enora LALET 25th April to 6th May details to be announced
French artist Enora Lalet works combine people and food. A visual artist who was born in Bordeaux, she has been working in this way for a few years now. The reference is to pop art and there is nothing more ‘pop art’ than decadent food. Her work goes beyond photography and also includes living installations. An interesting theme in her work is the way that she combines several different disciplines with the common thread of food running through them that ties them all together. Body painting and unusual angles are in her work but there is also a sense of the anthropological with food being intertwined with the modern human life. She will be doing the artist residency at Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad in April.

Tourism Desk Mar-Apr At the French Media Library Come explore more about the island at Alliance Francaise d’Ahmedabad through several activities in the next two months. Be it in form of Book Club or Film projections, join us and think of France when you’re planning your next vacation. Marseille, also spelled Marseilles, capital of Bouchesdu-Rhône département, southern France, is located west of the French Riviera, Marseille is one of the major ports of the Mediterranean Sea. It is now France’s largest city on the Mediterranean coast and the largest port for commerce, freight and cruise ships. The climate of Marseille is not typical of the Mediterranean region as a whole. Marseille is officially the sunniest major city in France with over 2,900 hours of sunshine while the average sunshine in the country is around 1,950 hours. The period following World War II saw various schemes to develop the city, including the Unité d’Habitation, an 18-story residential block that expressed the architect Le Corbusier’s ideal of urban family lodging. From the historic centre of Marseille at the Old Port, the thoroughfare of La Canebière climbs eastward up the hill; its name is a corruption of a Latin word for hemp, recalling Marseille’s importance as a source of hemp and supplier of hemp rope in the Middle Ages. Thronged by people from around the world, La Canebière is the best-known commercial street in Marseille. Marseille is a city that has its own unique culture and is proud of its differences from the rest of France. Today it is a regional centre for culture and entertainment with an important opera house, historical and maritime museums, five art galleries and numerous cinemas, clubs, bars and restaurants, including 26 | Découvrir | Mar-Apr 2020
its most famous landmark, the basilica of NotreDame-de-la-Garde, perched high above the city. There are several popular festivals in different neighborhoods, with concerts, animations, and outdoor bars, like the Fête du Panier in June. On 21 June, there are dozens of free concerts in the city as part of France’s Fête de la Musique, featuring music from all over the world.
