Dear friends of the Alliance Française of Ahmedabad,

Notre AF va accueillir début juillet Emmanuel LEBRUN-DAMIENS, le Conseiller de coopération et d’action culturelle (COCAC) et Directeur de l’Institut français d’Inde ainsi que Mme Alice GAUNY la Coordinatrice des Alliances françaises en Inde. Cette visite se fait dans le cadre de notre appartenance au réseau des Alliances Françaises et de notre rattachement à la diplomatie culturelle française, et plus spécifiquement à la préparation de la 4ème édition du festival Bonjour India début 2022. A cette occasion, M. Rahaab Allana (Conservateur de la Fondation Alkazi pour les Arts), présentera une sélection d’œuvres originales d’institutions françaises renommées comme le Musée Guimet, le Musée d’Orsay, le Centre Georges Pompidou et le Centre national d’arts plastiques (CNAP) représentant différentes « visions » du sous-continent indien, du XIXe siècle à nos jours. Parallèlement, l’AF d’Ahmedabad présentera les œuvres de M. Dalwadi, ancien président de l’AFA et illustre photographe de NID qui accompagna Cartier-Bresson lors de son périple nord-indien.

Our AF will welcome at the beginning of July Emmanuel LEBRUN-DAMIENS, the Counsellor for Education, Science and Culture (COCAC) and Country Director of the French Institute in India as well as Ms. Alice GAUNY, the Coordinator of the Alliance française’network in India. This visit takes place within the framework of our affiliation to the Alliances Françaises network in India and to French cultural diplomacy.

This visit is also to prepare the 4th edition of the Bonjour India festival in early 2022. On this occasion, Mr. Rahaab Allana (Curator of the Alkazi Foundation for the Arts), will present a selection of original works from renowned French institutions such as the Guimet Museum, the Orsay Museum, the Center Georges Pompidou and the National Center for Plastic Arts (CNAP) representing different "visions" of the Indian subcontinent, from the 19th century to the present day. At the same time, AFA Ahmedabad will present the works of Mr. Dalwadi, former AFA’s President and illustrious NID photographer who accompanied Cartier-Bresson on his North Indian journey.

Nos professeurs se forment à l’enseignement comodal avec des étudiants en ligne et dans les classes simultanément. Notre coordinateur culturel Harshal Shukla repartira dans sa carrière artistique de musicien et sera remplacé par Amol Dave.

The offices have reopened and we hope to soon be able to welcome students back to our premises. Our teachers train in co-modal teaching with students online and in class simultaneously. Our cultural coordinator Harshal Shukla will resume his artistic career as a musician and will be replaced by Amol Dave.

Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad was founded in 1981 and was established in a premise near Gujarat College in 1982. Began by some of the most prominent personalities of Ahmedabad, the idea was always to spread French culture, language and art in the city. It has indeed been a beautiful journey so far. Alliance Francaise de Baroda as an annexe of Ahmedabad was opened in 2003.

The main pillar of our teaching remains our pedagogy. The French courses are divided in 6 levels as per the common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Supporting these levels are our workshops that help students improve and finish their language. And lastly, a rigorous cultural calendar with almost 100 events every year providing a creative environment for the language to grow as a culture.

Now in One year you can master three levels of French with Alliance Française and in almost 1 and a half year get your international diploma!

Indo-French conversations at the intersection of culture, education and language. Clearing The Haze (CTH) is the 1st show hosted by inclusion specialist Shachi Irde on occasion of the Generation Equality Forum. We discuss inclusion challenges: how you, me and everyone balance societal, professional and familial demands, and how our choices are influenced by society. Listen to voices that are often invisible but powerful enough to clear the haze. This show is produced by the French Embassy, the French Institute and Alliance Française network in India.

AF Ahmedabad Chapter Rushil Palavajjhala is the Co-founder and CEO of Bandhu. Bandhu is an impact-tech start-up that enables low income workers to make data-driven migration decisions and thereby enriches their livelihoods. Rushil holds a Master’s degree Urban/City Planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, wherein he focused on Finance and Tech for Urban Development in the Global South. He received a Fulbright Scholarship for the same. Rushil also holds a Bachelors in Architecture and has worked extensively on affordable housing and large urban projects in India and abroad."

Renu Pokharna runs The Ahmedabad Project – a think tank that works on civic engagement and labour reforms. She has a decade long Découvrir | July-Aug 2021 | 27

experience working in public policy and development across India, Africa and the USA. Her stints including serving as a Chief Minister’s Fellow with the Government of Gujarat and working in Uganda, Africa with an educational start up. With a degree in public policy from Columbia University, she has also been published in Wall Street Journal and other national newspapers.

In this episode of the Generation Equality Podcast Series, Renu and Rushil will talk about the impact of unpaid work on the women, society and community we live in. Conversely what is the impact on men who are sole bread winners in the family?
