Happy New Year to all!

Avec 2020 viennent les cadeaux artistiques de l’Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad avec notre programmation culturelle régulière et deux événements majeurs, les Violons Nomades le 21 janvier puis la venue le 28 février du célèbre chanteur français Manu Chao. C’est un événement exceptionnel pour toute personne qui connaît la culture française. Manu Chao est un nom qui évoque à tous les Français des tubes comme Je ne t’aime plus ou Clandestino que nous avons tous chantés ou passés lors des apéros et soirées entre amis. Emotions garanties !!!

With 2020 come the artistic gifts of Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad with our regular cultural programming and two major events, The Violin Nomads on January 21 and the later on February 28 of the famous French singer Manu Chao. It is an exceptional event for anyone who knows French culture. Manu Chao is a name that evokes all the French hits like "Je ne t’aime plus" or "Clandestino" that we all have sung or written during aperitifs and evenings with friends. Guaranteed Emotions!!!

Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad was founded in 1981 and was established in a premise near Gujarat College in 1982. Began by some of the most prominent personalities of Ahmedabad, the idea was always to spread French culture, language and art in the city. It has indeed been a beautiful journey so far. Alliance Francaise de Baroda as an annexe of Ahmedabad was opened in 2003.

The main pillar of our teaching remains our pedagogy. The French courses are divided in 6 levels as per the common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Supporting these levels are our workshops that help students improve and finish their language. And lastly, a rigorous cultural calendar with almost 100 events every year providing a creative environment for the language to grow as a culture.

Now in One year you can master three levels of French with Alliance Française and in almost 1 and a half year get your international diploma!

Scholarship Options International students looking to study in France have plenty of scholarship options. The French government has decided to increase the number of scholarships from 7,000 to 21,000 to allow more international students to come and study in France without worrying about finances.

The French Embassy in India collaborates with major French companies to offer scholarships of up to Rs 7.1 crore to more than 500 Indian graduates on the basis of merit, allowing them to complete their higher education abroad. On 25th January, Mr. Sanjay Prasad, the current state commissioner of Gujarat, along with his team, will present the history of elections and voting rights in the state of Gujarat. Presently he has also been additional chief Secretary to government, Agriculture, Farmers Welfare & Cooperation Department, Sachivalay, Gandhinagar.

Michaël Fœssel joined the ENS of Fontenay-Saint-Cloud in 1995 (rank 1). He obtained the aggregation of philosophy two years later (rank 1), then defended a thesis on Emmanuel Kant and the question of the world in 2002 at the University of Rouen 3 . After having been a lecturer at the University of Burgundy and at the Catholic Institute of Paris 4 , in 2013 he was elected Professor of philosophy at the École polytechnique , where he succeeded Alain Finkielkraut 5 . Michaël Fœssel is also an advisor to the direction of the review Esprit and since 2014 he has directed the collection philosophical order to Seuil with Jean-Claude Monod.

His work focuses on the meaning and the risks of the democratic experience and on cosmopolitanism approached from a Kantian perspective.

Qu’est-ce qu’il se passe? Quel est le fond du mystère?

Nous, les journalistes, avons fait le ≤scoop≥. Notre source secrète nous a donné l’explication. C’est simple: “Piro, pirounet, qu’il est beau le friquonet, Faridole, darandole, fatandole, on s’envole”.

Quand nous avons lu un extrait du livre “La libération de Kalanos”, cet extrait nous a emmenés dans un voyage extraordinaire. Comme nous avons commencé à lire son extrait chaque page après l’autre, nous sommes devenus très curieux et puis nous ne voulions plus nous arrêter. Nous nous sommes beaucoup amusés. Cette histoire nous a profondément touchés. Quelle imagination ! Quelle fantaisie ! Une belle pièce de théâtre a été jouée dans nos têtes.

Un écrivain a dit qu’il n’y avait rien de plus ancien que les actualités et suite à cet atelier vraiment intéressant avec Anny Blaise Resnik, nous avons tous été inspirés par l’écriture fantastique. Alors, au revoir le journalisme réaliste et vive la fantaisie !

Qui est Anny Blaise Resnik ? Si vous étiez allés à l’Alliance Française d’Ahmedabad le 18 décembre 2019, vous auriez pu la rencontrer à la French galerie en « peinture » ; car elle peint aussi des couleurs et des formes différentes et abstraites. Et, en même temps, (oubliez les lois de la physique !), elle était aussi à la bibliothèque avec plein d’énergie, d’imagination et d’esprit.

C’était vraiment un phénomène multidimensionnel : à la fois peintre, écrivaine et aussi psychologue, professeure de littérature, voyageuse et sous bien d’autres formes encore.

Alors, faisons une psychanalyse de la psychologue !

Son enfance ? « À ce moment là, Il n’y avait pas d’Internet !!! » Un vrai traumatisme pour nous ! et elle lisait tout le temps, surtout des romans et aussi des classiques Voltaire, Rousseau etc. (un autre traumatisme pour nous !) Dans son livre “Confiture et autres

mystérieuses recettes”, elle a raconté une histoire d’une fille qui était vraiment brillante mais qui ne voulait pas aller à l’école et n’aimait ni lire ni écrire.

Mais un jour, elle alla chez sa grand-mère qui était une spécialiste de la préparation des confitures. Et la fille eut envie de faire de la confiture. Donc elle dût apprendre à lire les recettes de confiture et grâce à sa grand-mère, elle voulut aller à l’école. En France, l’Education Nationale pense que la pédagogie est importante. Mais d’après Anny, avoir un désir est la première étape pour motiver les enfants à apprendre.

Quels sont ses écrivains contemporains favoris ?

Elle aime les ouvrages d’Amélie Nothomb (écrivaine belge qui narre ses souvenirs mêlés à ses convictions) et de Yasmina Kahdra (Un soldat algérien qui écrit sous le pseudonyme d’une femme et traite des thèmes socio-contemporains, par exemple, de la montée de l’intégrisme). Elle a commencé à écrire à l’adolescence. Elle a écrit son premier roman, “Le chemin du silence” en 2004, qui a obtenu le prix Diamant du roman de la Scribe d’Opale. Quelques autres romans sont “Etat Dame”, ”Moi et Amélie”…

Elle a aussi écrit des pièces de théâtre surréalistes comme “Les yeux revolvers” dans laquelle deux personnages se confrontent, l’un valse avec les mots et l’autre avec l’absurdité du monde.

Pendant la conversation, elle nous a répondu qu’elle avait la conviction que la création devait être libre. Il ne faut pas censurer les films et les livres. Elle espère que nous pourrons faire un film à partir de son livre “La libération de Kalanos”, ajoute-t-elle en riant.

Ses conseils aux jeunes écrivains ? “Osez faire des choses, écrivez, bien ou pas, d’ailleurs, mais libérez vos imaginations.” Nos (vos journalistes illustres) conseils ? Allez tout de suite à la bibliothèque pour retrouver les livres et le monde imaginaire de cette merveilleuse écrivaine. Cherchez l’incantation pour vous transformer en un rat de bibliothèque, ou pourquoi pas en dragon ?... Cherchez le mystère, trouvez la fin et redécouvrez votre sens de l’émerveillement !

The Violin Nomads: The group was born of the encounter between Rupam Ghosh, Indian violinist and Antoine Marhem, French violinist oriented towards Eastern European Music. The duo was later joined by the vibraphonist, Eric Navet then the percussionist, Antoine Morineau. The product of this quartet is a mixed music , mixture between India and Europe, sometimes meditative sometimes more tonic, an invitation to meet each other and celebrate.

Manu Chao is a singer of French and Spanish (Basque, Galician) origin. Chao is a sensation who manages to sing his infectious tunes in no less than seven languages. For those playing at home: the list goes French, Spanish, English, Italian, Galician, Arabic and Portuguese.

From his early work with the English- influenced rockabilly group Hot Pants to his breakthrough with the band Mano Negra, Chao’s sound is mostly characterised by energetic, lively rhythms and a distinct informality which allows the audience to get involved and feel close to his sound and energy.

He truly is an international star! He has given numerous hits, but it really is all about the occasion and the kind of electric energy that Chao brings to the stage. It doesn’t matter which language you speak – as long as you come ready to dance!

Tourism Desk Jan-Feb At the French Media Library Come explore more about the island at Alliance Francaise d’Ahmedabad through several activities in the next two months. Be it in form of Book Club or Film projections, join us and think of France when you’re planning your next vacation.

Since its foundation by the Romans in 43 BCE, on Fourvière Hill, Lyon has expanded from west to east, building on the advantages offered by its two hills and two rivers. The city is spread over a narrow peninsula between the Rhône and Saône rivers and on their opposite banks. Included on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1998, Lyon’s four historic districts cover 500 hectares, taking visitors on a journey back through time. It is the third largest city in France, after Paris and Marseille.

A zone of factory and residential suburbs encircles the city. On the right bank of the Saône, Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) remains as one of the finest surviving architectural complexes of the Renaissance era. The Traboules are hidden passageways that have witnessed many secret happenings, found mainly in Vieux Lyon and the Croix Rousse. There are said to be 400 Traboules concealed between various buildings.

Lyon is the seat of a university and is the most important educational centre outside Paris. Cultural life is reflected in the riches of the local museums, which include a textile collection, the archaeological museum at Fourvière, a museum of fine arts, and a museum of printing and banking.

In the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, families from across France, Flanders, Germany and Italy settled in the city. They built sumptuous homes, in the Gothic, Italian renaissance and French renaissance styles, and there are still 300 of these remaining in the 26 | Découvrir | Jan-Feb 2020
