Cullimore Dutton is a firm born of the merger of two long-standing Chester firms, Mason & Moore Dutton and Birch Cullimore. It is uncertain who erected our present building called Friars but it can be seen from the outside that the building was probably built in 1742. The solicitors firm began trading from Friars in 1792 and the practice has continued in the building at 20 White Friars ever since. In the 1860s, Henry Birch and John Cullimore became partners and the firm acquired their name and the subsequent services of their sons and grandsons. Rae Cullimore and Harry Birch retired from the partnership in the 1980s. Meanwhile in 1891 Francis Mason joined with Thomas Moore Dutton and set up a practice in Chester. The two firms of Birch Cullimore and Mason & Moore Dutton merged in 2009 and in recognition of both firms’ history and shared future, part of each firm’s name became the new Cullimore Dutton.
Welcome to our review of 2017, a landmark year in the history of Cullimore Dutton when we marked an extraordinary 225 years of legal practice with a series of special anniversary events, community support and sponsorships. We were delighted to host various activities at our historic White Friars premises over the year. Wrapping them all up in this year-end review seems the perfect way of sharing our special year with as many valued clients and friends as possible. We firmly believe our strength lies not only in the expertise of our exceptional team of solicitors and support colleagues, but the solid relationships we build with Clients and associates alike. Many of you we proudly call friends. We are proud too, to support our local community. We celebrated our 225th year in style with a series of events held on our legendary lawn including; a Summer Barbecue, an Estate Agents Lunch, the Commercial Team’s Croquet and Pimm’s Afternoon and the Family Team’s Wimbledon Men’s Semi Final screening. Alongside NatWest Bank we jointly hosted a Networking on the Lawn event, while away from White Friars we held a Quiz Night at Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club. We hope you had a great time if you were able to join us at any of our events this year.

We are always keen to recognise the important role that sport plays in the social and emotional development of young people, so as part of our 225th celebrations we looked to support local sports clubs. We are currently proud to sponsor Women’s Cricket at Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club and the under 12s at Frodsham Juniors FC. In fact our sponsorship of the women’s cricket team has lead to us becoming club-wide sponsor for the whole of Chester Boughton Hall Cricket Club for the next two seasons.

As professional members of the Agricultural Law Association, NFU and CLA we are delighted to represent so many within the farming community and to support the regions agricultural shows. This year we sponsored categories at the Nantwich, Anglesey, and Denbigh and Flint shows including Red Poll Cattle, Dairy Cattle and Young Handlers. We were proud to attend all of the events and to be able to present rosettes to the victors. We look forward to being involved again next year.
