RobbieMajzner,MD,istheDirectorofthePediatricandYoung AdultCancerCellTherapyProgramatDanaFarberCancer Institute/BostonChildren’sHospital.Heisfocusedonthe developmentanddeploymentofimmunotherapiesfor pediatriccancer.HereceivedhisMDfromHarvardMedical SchoolfollowedbytraininginpediatricsatNewYork Presbyterian-Columbiaandpediatrichematology-oncologyat JohnsHopkinsandtheNationalCancerInstitute.Hisworkin thelaboratorycentersonengineeringplatformtechnologiesto improvetheefficacyofCARTcellsinsolidtumorsand overcometherapeuticresistance.Concurrently,heisfocused ontranslatinglaboratoryadvancesininnovativeclinicaltrials forchildrenwithincurablecancers.

AboutBrent’sPlace

Brent’sPlacewasfoundedbyDonnandLindaEleyas atributetotheirson,Brent,whowasdiagnosedwith rhabdomyosarcomaattheageofthirteenin1987.

Becauseofhisaggressiveandraretypeofpediatriccancer, Brentrequiredabonemarrowtransplant,thebestchancefor survival.However,nofacilityinhishometownwasableto providethistreatment,whichmeantthefamilywasforcedto relocatetoIowaformorethansixmonths.

Notonlyweretheyseparatedfromtheircommunityofsupport duringthemostchallengingtimeoftheirlives,thedifficult responsibilityoffindingandmaintainingasafeandclean"home awayfromhome"fortheirimmune-compromisedsonfellsquarely ontheirownshoulders.Thisburdenonlyaddedtothefinancial, psychological,andemotionaltolltheyfacedduringthismedical crisis.Sadly,followingabravefight,Brentpassedaway.

Thoughtheywereheartbroken,theEleyswerecommittedto helpingotherfamiliesexperiencingasimilarstruggle.They spentthenextnineyearsraisingfundsinsupportof pediatriccancerprogramsinBrent’shonor,andin1998, shortlyaftertheBrentEleyFoundationwasestablished, thefirstBrent'sPlacefacilityopeneditsdoors.Since then,wehaveprovidedaSafe-Cleanhomeaway fromhometothousandsoffamiliesfromaround thecountryandacrosstheglobe.Formore information,pleasevisitbrentsplace.org.
