Like many other holidays, Halloween has evolved and changed throughout history. Over 2,000 years ago people called the Celts lived in what is now Ireland, the UK, and parts of Northern France. Day of the Dead is an important Mexican holiday that celebrates and honors deceased loved ones. In Mexico, the celebration is held from October 31 to November 2nd, coinciding with the Catholic feast days of All Saints and All Souls, but the festival's origins are rooted in a combination of elements of indigenous beliefs and Catholic teachings. Over time it has evolved, adding some new ideas and practices, ultimately transcending its origins to evolve into the truly Mexican holiday that is celebrated today as DĂ­a de Muertos or Hanal Pixan in the Maya area.

The Aztecs believed there were several planes of existence which were separate but interrelated to the one on which we dwell. They envisioned a world with 13 over worlds or layers of heavens above the earthly terrain, and nine underworlds. In some locations, instead of candy, they'll be given items off the family Day of the Dead altar.

If you ever think of a dangerous highway to be at, it’ll come to mind something with lots of turns, foggy nights or maybe ghosts, but there’s a different place in France named Passage du Gois.

It connects Bourgneuf Bay with the Isle of Noirmoutier, in the Atlantic Ocean and is one of the two ways to get from one end to another. Despite having a bridge since 1971, people feel attracted to the old and rustic passage, where 4.2 km are crossed between seawater just twice a day.

Since water comes back during the day, locals have built platforms so you can go there if the sea reaches you, with depths between 1.3 and 4 meters!

There are signs to inform people when to cross the way, and it is possible to do it 1.5 hour before and after the indicated time.

Let’s say it’s completely safe and dry to cross at 12:00, so you can also do it since 10:30 up to 13:30, obviously with certain amount of water but no danger.

Prepare pie crust by mixing together the flour and salt.

Cut shortening into flour; add cold water 1 tablespoon at a time (you may need only 3 tablespoons, or up to 4 tablespoons). Mix dough and repeat until dough is moist enough to hold together.

With lightly floured, hands shape dough into a ball. On a lightly floured board roll dough out to about 1/8 inch thickness. With a sharp knife, cut dough 1 1/2 inch larger than the upside-down 8- to 9inch pie pan. Gently roll the dough around the rolling pin and transfer it right-side up onto the pie pan. Unroll, easing dough into the bottom of the pie pan.

In a large bowl, beat pumpkin with evaporated milk, eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and salt with an electric mixer or immersion blender.

Mix well. Pour into a prepared crust. Bake 40 minutes or until when a knife is inserted 1 inch from the edge comes out clean.
