Welcome to Coach Touring The Directory 2026 To boldly go where great journeys begin that has always been the spirit of coach travel. Long before “experiences” became a marketing word, coach operators were already creating them: turning miles into memories, and destinations into stories shared long after the engine cooled. This year marks the 25th edition of The Directory, and that milestone matters. Not because of the number, but because of what it represents: a quarter of a century of helping operators find the places that truly understand groups, parking, timings, drivers, and the quiet art of making 50 strangers feel like a travelling community. The year ahead is shaping up to be a strong one for coach tourism. Domestic travel remains resilient, and travellers are not just moving, they are spending. Attractions that welcome coaches are seeing higher per-head spend, more structured planning and a growing appetite for meaningful, immersive visits rather than quick stops. One well-planned coach visit can transform a local economy for a day, and when multiplied across a season, the impact becomes profound. Coaches continue to outperform most transport types on efficiency and environmental impact per passenger, and that’s no longer a side note; it's central to how destinations think.

group travel because it is organised, predictable and sustainable. In a world looking for cleaner ways to travel, the coach world is not catching up it’s already ahead. This edition of The Directory is structured by region because that’s how real-world planning works. Operators don’t sell dots on a map; they sell journeys. Logical routes. Strong clusters. Sensible driving hours. Places that are genuinely coachfriendly. Inside these pages are venues that understand your world arrival slots, group menus, toilets that can cope, gift shops that work, and teams who know how to handle a full coach without blinking. If you’re searching for fresh ideas, reliable partners or just a better way to build your programmes for the coming season, this is your navigational chart. Use it to plot new territories, test new routes, and strengthen the ones that already work. The next frontier for group travel is not digital or virtual. It’s real people, real places, and real shared experiences powered, as ever, by the coach. And as you head out there to plan the journeys that keep Britain moving, one final thought: keep on treking.

Councils, heritage sites, gardens and cultural venues are actively prioritising

Coach Tourism Association

The Directory

The Coach Tourism Association is, in many ways, the quiet engine room of British group travel. Not loud. Not flashy. Just relentlessly practical. If coach tourism were a long-distance vehicle climbing a steep hill, the CTA would be the torque: not always visible, but absolutely essential.

travel, the Association has been translating industry needs into something local authorities and policymakers can act on. Coaches now sit right at the heart of conversations about sustainable tourism, regional visitor dispersal and off-peak travel not as an afterthought, but as a serious solution.

At its core, the Association exists to make life easier for the people who actually make coach tourism happen. Operators, wholesalers, destinations and suppliers all sit around the same table, which in itself is no small achievement in an industry where time is short and margins are tight. The CTA gives that table structure, purpose and more importantly direction.

It’s also a community. Not the vague, social-media kind of “community”, but the practical kind. Members share routes, warnings, wins, losses and lessons. There’s a culture of swapping knowledge that still feels refreshingly old-fashioned in the best sense: people helping people because it improves the whole industry.

What makes the CTA work is its focus on real-world outcomes. This isn’t an organisation built on vague aspirations. It’s built on parking bays that actually fit coaches, drop-off points that don’t involve three-point turns across bus lanes, and attractions that understand what a 50-seat vehicle really means in terms of toilets, timing and tea. It’s the difference between theory and practice, between marketing copy and operational reality.

The CTA’s events have become fixtures in the calendar. They aren’t about glossy brochures or sales pitches. They are about connectors. Drivers meet hoteliers. Operators meet attraction managers. Planners meet people who actually run the day-to-day reality of destinations. Conversations happen that would never fit into an email chain or a spreadsheet. The CTA doesn’t shout about it. It simply keeps the wheels turning. Quietly. Efficiently. Effectively.

Over recent years the CTA has quietly become one of the most influential voices in domestic tourism. As destinations have started to understand the economic and environmental value of group

Spotlight on...

The Directory Described by Country Life magazine as ‘the Nation’s finest manor house’, 16th, 17th and 18th centuries meet each other at every turn, creating a rich visual harmony. With an important collection of art, textiles, furniture and ceramics, the House reflects the family’s contribution to British naval history over the past four hundred years, weaving a tapestry of stories through the ages. The successful Gilded Age American Heiress Exhibition is open for another season. Step into the captivating world of the 9th Countess of Sandwich, Alberta Sturges Montagu, as a treasure trove of personal diaries, letters and belongings is unveiled and state-of-the art AI brings her ‘voice’ to life. This private collection offers unparalleled insights into an American Heiress’s life and times from 1877-1951. The exquisite Italianate Garden was originally laid out in the 1920s by Ethel Labouchere in memory of her husband. The Fountain Court and surrounding terraces sit gracefully below the croquet lawn, enclosed by topiary, octagonal pools, grottoes, and stone statues. Inspired by Harold Peto’s Italianate style, Labouchere combined classical formality with softened planting, enhanced by yew and box hedges, local Blue Lias paving, and honey-hued Hamstone walls. The garden evolved further under Victor Montagu in the 1960s with the addition of a gilded orangery, its glass roof sheltering roses, begonias, and exotic plants, while offering sweeping views across the valley. From here the garden descends to a lower terrace with a 17th-century summerhouse, spring-fed ponds, and the beginnings of the wild garden. The Arboretum and woodland walks unfold with magnolias, dawn redwoods, tulip trees, and dogwoods, with steep valleys and headlands stretching to the sea a few miles away. A small chapel dating back to the 12th century sits within the grounds, and the Coach House café provides refreshments – using produce from the Kitchen Garden - for visitors. The House and Gardens form the centre of a working rural estate of around 1,800 acres of grassland, ancient woodland and Mapperton’s Wildlands, Dorset’s most spectacular rewilding project. Promoting regenerative agriculture across Mapperton Estate, the Wildlands support more than 3,200 plant and animal species, including the green-winged orchid, an indicator of old pastures.

Discover Tunbridge Wells, nestled in the heart of the Garden of England Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent has long been a popular destination for tours and groups, conveniently situated just over an hour from Dover and Greater London and just 25 minutes from the M25 network. This Royal Spa town offers visitors the best of all worlds; set within an area of outstanding natural beauty, the home of Decimus Burton architecture, The Pantiles and Chalybeate spring, two thriving theatres, an award-winning grass-roots music venue, the Spa Valley Railway and the recent addition of The Amelia Scott , a cultural centre housing art exhibitions, interactive historical rooms and the museum. Tunbridge Wells is an all-year round destination with annual events including Jazz on the Pantiles, music concerts, a range of literary, antiques, food and drink festivals alongside open gardens, the Tunbridge Wells circular walk, foodie experiences and seasonal events. It is also a historically fascinating town, visitors have been coming to Royal Tunbridge Wells since the discovery of the Chalybeate Spring in 1606. The Wells became a favourite destination for royalty and aristocratic society, the place to be and be seen, and in 1909 it received its ‘Royal’ status from King Edward VII. It was also a holiday location for a young Queen Victoria, who used to worship at King Charles the Martyr Church, by The Pantiles. Today, Tunbridge Wells is also a premier hospitality and shopping location with over 250 places to eat and drink and hundreds of big brands and boutique independents spread across Royal Victoria Place, Mount Pleasant, Monson Road, The Old High Street, Chapel Place and The Pantiles. The town also has dedicated coach parking bays five minutes’ walk from the town centre or The Pantiles. For more information visit www.visittunbridgewells.com/tours

affordable breaks with great food, live entertainment, and a genuine family welcome.” That welcome extends to every detail. “We run 32 Mercedes Tourismos and three Volvos,” says Paul. “They’re designed for comfort from the very first stop, using well-connected meeting points that fit our ethos of relaxation. The journey should be part of the holiday, not just the bit in between.” The Joy of Staying in Britain 35 acres of scenic grounds with spectacular views of the iconic Lovell Telescope. Jodrell’s locally sourced cafés also serve delicious lunches, cakes, and afternoon teas, ideal for refuelling during your visit. Coach operators bringing adult groups of 10 or more benefit from free parking, a £10 food and drink voucher for drivers, and a complimentary ticket for the group organiser. There’s also the option to add an expert-led Heritage Talk, offering fascinating insights into Jodrell Bank’s pioneering role in radio astronomy. Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement is located in Cheshire, the North West, just off the A535 between Chelford and Holmes Chapel. Take Junction 18 off the M6 and follow the brown signs straight to the entrance, approximately 6 miles away.

Daish’s has always been proudly British. Their holidays champion the joys of the homegrown seaside promenades, piers, and a hint of nostalgia wrapped in the comfort of modern hospitality. “Our most popular destination is Eastbourne,” admits Sam, “but every one of our locations has its loyal regulars. Guests come back year after year because they know exactly what to expect great service and a stress-free break.” Daish’s also plays a quiet but important role behind the scenes. “We host up to £4 million of business each year from other operators,” says Paul, referring to partnerships with InterChoice Holidays, Dunwood Travel, and Shearings. “It keeps our hotels thriving and the business connected to the wider travel community.”

And for Paul, when he’s not juggling schedules or fine-tuning operations, there’s always time for a different kind of ride – his Triumph Bonneville. “Just me and the open road,” he grins, “a single-seater version of what we do best.”

Daish’s From Island Roots to National Reach Daish’s story is one of gentle evolution rather than revolution. “During the 1980s the business really took off,” recalls Paul. “Coach groups were growing in popularity, and Mrs Wilson saw the opportunity. By 1985 she had purchased her own coaches and started running tours herself.” Those instincts proved spot on. By the time others were scaling back, Daish’s was rolling forward, steadily expanding its network of hotels and routes across the country.

Asked what he’d change if given the power for a day, Paul doesn’t hesitate. “Social care,” he says. “It’s something we all need to look after – each other.” It’s a sentiment that feels entirely in tune with Daish’s itself: a business built on care, comfort, and a belief that the best of Britain is still worth touring.

Today, Daish’s operates 12 hotels across 10 destinations in England and Wales, including the grand Imperial Hotel in Eastbourne and the muchloved Esplanade in Scarborough. Their 35-strong fleet of luxury coaches, resplendent in white and gold, collect guests from 18 different pick-up points across Britain, from Yorkshire to Cornwall. “Guests can also choose to self-drive,” adds Sam Wilson, Jeanne’s son and now Head of Estates, who runs the business alongside his brother George Brown, Managing Director. “Our goal is simple: to continue Mum’s legacy — offering

Elton Hall is a fascinating mixture of styles and has been home to the Proby family since 1660. The house contains wonderful furniture, porcelain and magnificent paintings. Artists represented in the collection include Gainsborough, Constable, Reynolds and Old Masters from the early Italian Renaissance. The library is one of the finest in private ownership and contains such treasures as Henry VIII’s prayer book. The award winning formal gardens have been restored during the last 40 years and include a Gothic Orangery, a Flower Garden with spectacular fountain, Shrub Garden and Box Walk. Billowing borders surround the lily pond, while topiary, parterres and immaculately kept lawns and paths give structure to the many unusual plants. Devon has two coastlines; they combine bare rugged cliffs, surf washed sands, white pebble beaches, stretches of golden sands, stunning resorts, hidden wooded estuaries and the Jurassic Coast - England's first natural World Heritage Site. It offers green rolling hills, coloured patchwork fields, high-sided lanes, bustling market towns and villages, thatched whitewashed cottages and traditional Devon longhouses.

London The biggest city in Europe has something for everyone. It may not be the easiest place to navigate, but bring a party to London and they will never cease to thank you for your trouble. Take advantage of the extensive public transport system (only Londoners actually complain about it) and let your party alight at a convenient location, and let the underground train take the strain. With so much to take in, even the website weighs a ton. So sit comfortably and find that all of London's attractions can be reviewed at www.visitlondon.com
