The Group Leader Award helps participants develop the skills to lead a group rides on road, paths and byways. This course has a good mix of practical and theory with simulated group ride and practice in leading different types of groups. Ideal for start up/community groups. Duration: 4 hours of E-Learning plus 4 ½ hour Practical Training and Assessment. Time: 10am to 2.30pm on day of Practical Training and Assessment is preferred. (As scheduled with Cycling UK).

Number of Participants: Minimum – 5. Maximum – 7. Cost: £139 per person. £877 per group of 7 participants. Booking: Please provide a minimum of 3 dates to allow allocation of tutor. Cycling UK will forward a booking form to confirm dates, cost and venue requirements. Participants will receive more details upon course sign up. Pre-Requisite Qualifications & Experience The Group Leader Course is aimed at cyclists who have experience riding with groups and would like to share their enthusiasm of cycling with others. Those attending the course must understand and meet the pre-requisites for it, and have read the terms and conditions for course attendance. To be ready to both take and pass the course, participants will need to: • Be able to ride a minimum of five miles • Be confident riding on the road both in a group and independently *If your group only rides on traffic free roads, then confidence riding on these is sufficient. • Be able to control a cycle steadily. • Be able to use the brakes safely and start and stop riding in a controlled manner • Be able to turn corners in a controlled manner and maneuver the cycle safely • Be able to look over both shoulders whilst controlling the cycle • Be able to take hands off handlebars to indicate that they’re turning, both for left and right, whilst controlling the cycle. • Understand how gears work, how to change gear and which gears are suitable for varying inclines and descents etc. • Have a high enough fitness level to match the intended rides. • Be age 18 or above First Aid Certificate: All participants are advised to hold an 8 hour outdoor first aid certificate; however, this is not mandatory. Venue & Resource Requirements The Course Organiser is responsible for booking the venue. The following facilities will be required for the duration of the course: Facility Individual Access to IT Equipment & Internet Off Road/Traffic Free Area (Car Park/MUGA/Basketball Court/Park) Easy Access to roads, cycle paths and byways. Toilet/WC Kitchen/Cafe Picnic Area Parking

A kitchen/cafe facility is preferable for post ride refreshments; however, participants will be advised to bring a packed lunch and hot/cold drink.
