Professors know your name

When it comes to class size, less is more. We have a 25:1 student-to-faculty ratio, which means more quality one-on-one time for you with your instructors. You’ll never get lost in a crowd.

Committed to diversity

U.S. News & World Report has ranked CSUMB as one of the most diverse universities in the country. Our Office of Inclusive Excellence leads our efforts to create an equitable and inclusive community.

We advocate for social justice by building bridges across communities and identities. Affinity graduation celebrations each year honor the accomplishments of historically underrepresented communities for graduating students, including: Asian & Pacific Islander, Black, Chicanx/Latinx, Native American, students with disabilities, Rainbow (LGBTQ+), Undocu-Otter (undocumented) and student veterans.

Best affordability and value

We’re one of the most affordable CSUs. CSUMB ranked 8th for public universities and 5th for social mobility in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 Best Colleges in the Western United States. We also ranked in the Top 20 of Money Magazine’s Most Transformative Colleges 2019.*

* Placed 16th for “college value add,” defined as “how well students beat the odds and do better than would be expected from their academic and economic backgrounds.”

Unique degrees stand out

We offer 25 unique and sought-after degree programs including Responsible Business, Sustainable Hospitality Management, Plant & Soil Science, Cinematic Arts & Technology and the Teacher Pathway Program.

One-of-a-kind opportunities

Our Marine Science students have opportunities like none other because of our proximity to the extraordinary living laboratory of Monterey Bay and research facilities such as Moss Landing Marine Labs. We offer one of the only diving programs in the country with entry through leadership-level diving certifications, as well as scientific research operations.
