More than 200 students visit the ASI Beach Pantry on campus every week to pick up donated produce, groceries and toiletries. Student interns from Human Development and various other departments in the College of Liberal Arts contributed to that effort over the past year by donating to the pantry 5,249 pounds of fresh produce they harvested from the Long Beach Organic Gardens, a collection of eight community gardens. Under the leadership of history professor Dr. Ali Igmen, the students picked, washed and packaged the produce at the Zaferia Junction Organic Gardens.
