WELCOME TO THE COLLEGE OF THE AR TS First, I’d like to start off by saying something I have looked forward to saying for a very long time: “Welcome back!” Welcome back to live performances and in-person exhibitions; welcome back to the thrill of sitting in a darkened theatre or concert hall, waiting with palpable anticipation as performers fill the stage; and welcome back to the very personal experience of being in the presence of an artwork that moves you or challenges your expectations. We’ve missed you.

While away from campus, our students continued to create, learn, rehearse, and perform – sometimes in the tiny boxes we’ve all grown accustom to viewing from home – as they prepared for the moment they would once again feel stage lights shining on them. As you can imagine, they are more than ready to perform in front of a live audience! This season, we are offering both on-campus and live streaming options for many of our Department of Theatre & Dance and School of Music performances to accommodate a variety of patrons. With enhancements to our HVAC and air filtration systems, we are also able to provide students with the full breadth of our first-rate performance facilities and numerous art galleries where they perfect their craft daily.

In returning to campus, we can once again deliver the full scope of immersive academic experiences and opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration that make our college a living laboratory for the arts. Here, success is measured in lines of dialogue, sheets of music, and slabs of clay as our students, faculty, and staff work together to present concerts, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and performances to 40,000+ visitors annually.

ABOUT THE FACULTY ARTIST

RONG-HUEY LIU Taiwanese American oboist Rong-Huey Liu is a California- based high demand multi-faceted artist. As soloist she has performed concertos of Bach, Corigliano, Daugherty, Ferran, Kalliwoda, Lebrun, Marcello, Mozart, Navarro, Saul, and Strauss.

Rong-Huey’s world premiere performance of Saul’s “Kiev 2014: Rhapsody for Oboe and Orchestra,” garnered critical acclaim for “sublime playing and crisp performance, filled with quiet perseverance and passion.” Her playing in the Lebrun Oboe Concerto with the Long Beach Symphony was commended for “radiant tone easily filled the cavernous Terrace Theater….played with consummate grace and musicality... .awesome technical display.” She was guest artist of the Ojai Summer Music Festival, Nevada Chamber Music Festival, Southwest International New Music Festival. At the Cactus Pear Music Festival, her Mozart Quartet was noted by San Antonio critics for “sweetness shaped by a sense of crisp articulation” and for leading a performance of Daugherty “Firecracker” with a razzle dazzle ...the audience was thrilled.”

As a Hollywood recording studio musician, Rong-Huey has collaborated with celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Chris Botti, Andrea Bocelli, Spinal Tap, The Who, and Weird Al. Her cinema credits include “Star War VIII,” “Lady Bird,” “Ferdinand,” “Agents of SHIELD,” “Star Trek,” and “A Jazzman’s Blues” to name a few.

Deeply committed to music education, Rong-Huey builds a diverse oboe studio with students from various cultures and frequently serves as guest artist at numerous institutes. She holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the Manhattan School of Music, and Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. She is currently the oboe professor at California State University Fullerton, La Sierra University, Riverside City College, and is the principal oboist and faculty at the International Chamber Orchestra of Puerto Rico Music Festival, and the Fresno Opera & Orchestra Summer Academy.

Rong-Huey holds the principal oboe positions in the Long Beach Symphony, Los Angeles Ballet, Reno Chamber Orchestra, Fresno Philharmonic, and Riverside County Philharmonic.

ABOUT THE GUEST ARTIST

FELICI PIANO TRIO The internationally renowned Felici Piano Trio has performed well over 400 concerts in Europe, South America and the U.S. The ensemble has distinguished itself as a unique presence on the national music scene since coming to Mammoth Lakes as grantee of Chamber Music America’s Rural Residencies Program and as a California Arts Council (CAC) Touring Roster Ensemble.

Through Chamber Music Unbound, a nonprofit arts organization based in the Eastern Sierra, Felici presents a full winter concert season (Felici & Friends), as well as an international summer festival and associated academy (Unbound Chamber Music Festival and Sierra Academy of Music). The ensemble members direct a year-round community music school serving local students in weekly group and individual lessons and perform “Kids Concerts” for elementary, middle and high schools.

In addition, they teach music appreciation classes and chamber orchestra in collaboration with Cerro Coso College. The Felici Trio was a recipient of a Creating Public Value grant from the California Arts Council (CAC), a three-year Artists-in-Residence grant, a Youth Education in the Arts grant and an Exemplary Grant. In Germany, the ensemble has concertized under the auspices of the Kultursommer Festival, and appeared on 3SAT and ZDF Television, as well as on German Southwest Radio (SWF). Felici has recorded four CDs, Chamber Music of Women Composers, Tchaikovsky’s Trio in A Minor, Beethoven’s “Ghost” Trio & Brahms’ Trio, op. 87, and the Ravel Trio coupled with Saint-Saëns, op. 18.
