Hello and welcome to the 15th annual “Deck the Hall at Cal State Fullerton!” By the end of this weekend, more than 1,800 guests will have visited Meng Concert Hall to kick off the holidays with family, friends, and nearly 200 of the School of Music’s talented musicians. We are so happy you have joined us.
Preparation for the multi-ensemble achievement of musicianship that is “Deck” begins each fall semester, well before there’s a festive chill in the air or the thought of holiday decorating has entered anyone’s mind. Over the course of three months, our students, faculty, and staff carefully prepare for this memorable event. Then, during the second weekend of December, the performance unfolds before audiences like the perfect musical gift – seemingly effortlessly and presented with the utmost skill.
This level of accomplishment is a hallmark of the School of Music, where academics and artistry bond a tight-knit community of fearless, accomplished musicians and educators. After graduation, the same Titan spirit that fueled our students’ academic excellence sparks greatness in the next generation of Titans as these artists begin their careers. Help ensure this spark continues to inspire success by donating a gift of any amount to the School of Music today. Visit give.fullerton.edu/music or scan the QR code below to shape the future of the arts today.
I’d also like to take a moment recognize the members of Music Associates, one of the School of Music’s most ardent champions. Over the past 57 years, their impassioned philanthropic efforts have enabled hundreds of music students to continue developing their technical and artistic skills, preparing them for successful music careers well beyond this hall. Thank you for the fundraising work you do on behalf of our students.
We are so proud to present “Deck the Hall” – a concert that has become a tradition on campus and in our community. Thank you for joining us this evening and throughout the year. I wish you and yours a happy holiday season filled with peace and cheer in the new year.
Be Well,

Arnold Holland, EdD Dean, College of the Arts

O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of Angels
O come, let us adore Him

O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!
God of God, Light of Light
Lo, He abhors not the Virgin’s womb
Very God
Begotten, not created
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
O come, let us adore Him
Christ the Lord!
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation
Sing, all ye citizens of heaven above!
Glory to God in the highest

GRAMMY Award Winning conductor Dr. Robert Istad who “fashions fluent and sumptuous readings” (Voice of OC) with his “phenomenal” artistry (Los Angeles Times), is Director of Choral Studies at CSU Fullerton, where he was recognized as CSUF’s 2016 Outstanding Professor. He is also Artistic Director of Pacific Chorale. His artistic impact can be heard on three recent recordings featuring Pacific Chorale: “Mahler’s Eighth Symphony” with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel on Deutsche Grammophon (2021), for which he prepared the chorus and was awarded the GRAMMY Award for Best Choral Performance, James MacMillan’s “Fiat Lux” with Pacific Symphony conducted by Carl St.Clair on Tonsehen Records and “Ecstasies Above: The Music of Tarik O’Regan,” which he conducted, on Yarlung Records (2020). Istad’s inventive choral-theatrical concert film “To the Hands” will receive its commercial release in early 2026. He serves on the Executive Board of Chorus America and is Dean of Chorus America’s Conducting Academy.

Christopher Peterson is a teacher, conductor, choral clinician, author, editor, and choral arranger of music and books published in the United States and around the world. In his over thirty-five years as a music educator Dr. Peterson he has taught in elementary, middle school, high school, church, community, festival, and collegiate settings. At California State University, Fullerton he serves as Professor of Choral Music Education directing the Concert Choir and Singing Titans Choruses and teaching graduate and undergraduate classes in choral methods, choral pedagogy, and choral conducting. His collegiate textbook “RESONANCE: The ART of the Choral Music Educator” is published by Pavane and is being used across the United States to train future choral music teachers and conductors.
He has been invited to teach, judge, and conduct choirs in more than thirty US states, five Canadian Provinces, and nine countries including China, England, Sweden, Japan, Germany, New Zealand, and Holland, and has conducted All-State Choirs across the nation including Maine, Florida, North Carolina, Oregon, and California. His “hobby” for many decades has been enjoying singing barbershop harmony, and he is a BHS District Quartet Champion baritone, a Top 5 medalist chorus director, and a four-time gold medalist with the Masters of Harmony, nine-time International Men’s Chorus Champions of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Kimberly Nason is the director of the Cal State Fullerton Titan Voices. She began directing choirs at age fifteeen and has had the opportunity to work with singers from five to 80 years old.
In 2022, she retired from her 32 year career as a K-8 music teacher with the Capistrano Unified School District, where she served as a mentor teacher, director of honor choirs, and frequent presenter at choral conferences. Is the 2022 recipient of the Irene Schoepfle award for lifetime service in music education from Orange County Music and Arts Administrators. Kim is the former Director of Traditional Music at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Rancho Santa Margarita, and has directed the adult and children’s choirs for over 30 years. She is the former Resources and Repertoire Chair for Children’s and Youth Choirs for the California Choral Directors Association (CCDA).
