Jewels of the Federation Dear GFWC Southeastern Region Clubwomen and Guests, It is truly an honor and a privilege to welcome you to this year’s GFWC SER Annual Meeting & Conference in the beautiful mountain region of Huntington, West Virginia. Are you aware that the nickname for Huntington, West Virginia is THE HIDDEN JEWELED CITY? How apropos that we are here this weekend with you, our GFWC SER JEWELS? Prepare yourselves to CELEBRATE and be amazed by our ‘Sparkling Jewels’, federation friendships, and leadership opportunities in the “Room Where It Happens.” Special thanks to our hosts, the GFWC West Virginia Clubwomen, and to the DoubleTree by Hilton Huntington. The tour to Fisher House and the Huntington Museum of Art promises to be not ones to miss. The GFWC SER Fundraising Committee has been hard at work for your shopping pleasure. Our vendors are ready, and they will help with our retail therapy. In addition, our GFWC SER LEADS workshop, as well as platform workshops will keep you enthused and ready to return home with exciting information to share with your States. The GFWC West Virginia State Night Banquet will be Friday evening and immediately following the banquet, all clubwomen are invited to stay around for even more entertainment. Saturday’s business session will include our

guest speaker, Kristi Arrowood, Executive Director of Foundations for Mountain Health Network, as well as reports from our GFWC SER Chairmen and reports presented by our ‘GFWC SER Federation’s Jewels,’ our State Presidents and Directors of Junior Clubs. During the Saturday Night Banquet, we will hear from our GFWC International President Deb Strahanoski. Following our keynote speaker, we will celebrate our Jennie Award Nominees as well as the GFWC SER President’s Special Project Awards winners. The GFWC SER President’s Coveted Jewel Award will be presented to one State President and one State Director of Junior Clubs along with a $500 check for their project entry. It is the hope of the GFWC Southeastern Region’s Executive Committee that you leave this conference feeling empowered, excited, and more invested in Federation knowledge. You will be able to take back much information to make a greater impact in your communities and to your state members and all the while enjoying friends and celebrating our GFWC SER Members – “The Jewels of the Federation!” In Federation friendship,

2022-2024 GFWC Interna�onal President Debra Strahanoski has been a dedicated GFWC Illinois clubwoman for 34 years and is regarded as a great mentor to many. Deb’s boundless energy has been apparent during her Federa�on journey. She has served GFWC Illinois in various roles, including on the Board of Directors as GFWC IL Director of Junior Clubs 2000-2002, GFWC IL President Elect/Dean of Chairmen, GFWC IL President 2008-2010, and the GFWC IL Leadership Commitee. Her GFWC leadership posi�ons have included Membership Chairman, Community Improvement Program Chairman, Capital Campaign Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Second Vice President, First Vice President, and President-elect. Deb is also a highly respected volunteer and leader within her community. She has served Easterseals and PCA Illinois at regional and state levels and has been honored with the coveted Friends of Children Award by PCA Illinois. Deb re�red from the Easterseals Joliet Region a�er 17 years as a dedicated Development Manager. She credits much of her professional success to all she has garnered through Federa�on. Deb con�nues to assist her husband Bill in his public accoun�ng office, which they have owned since 1984. Married for 40 years, they have a beau�ful family of Lauren, her husband David, grandsons Owen and Henry, son Joe and his wife Paige, and grandson Julien. Her visionary leadership, extensive experience, and infec�ous enthusiasm have mo�vated new and veteran members alike. Her bright, shining smile and warm, caring spirit will undoubtedly inspire GFWC members for years to come.
Lee Dean Lee Dean is 1 of the 4 Field Representa�ves for the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office. His du�es include traveling the state overseeing elec�ons, conduc�ng poll worker trainings, visi�ng high schools speaking to classes & conduc�ng voter registra�on drives, and doing a "living history" portrayal performance of the late West Virginia Senator Jennings Randolph, the "Father of the 26th amendment", that lowered the vo�ng age from 21 to 18! Lee is also an ordained minister who assists churches with pulpit supply and serves monthly with various school ministries as well as ministering in addiction recovery centers. Lee also does quite a bit of entertainment work with his "Swinging with Sinatra & Elvis" Shows, performing anywhere from 12-20 times a month in venues ranging from nursing homes to resorts, all to spread cheer, love, & joy through music & his people skills. He performs several times monthly with "Murder & Merriment", a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater Company.
Kris� Arrowood Kris� Arrowood is a cer�fied development professional with more than 25 years of fundraising experience. Since 2013, she has served in mul�ple roles for Cabell Hun�ngton Hospital Founda�on, Hoops Family Children’s Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center Founda�on, and River Health Founda�on. She is currently the execu�ve director of Mountain Health Founda�ons which is responsible for these founda�ons. Her focus is on major gi�s and planned giving. Prior to her work with Mountain Health Founda�ons, Arrowood was a senior member of the Marshall University Founda�on’s major gi�s team, where she assisted in developing the University’s Bridge Campaign, annual reports, Thunder Club and coordina�ng the world premiere celebra�on of the film “We Are Marshall.” Kris� is passionate about her work and takes great joy in ge�ng to know and care for the people with whom she works. She is married to Mark. Together they have two married sons and 5 grandchildren. 5

CONFERENCE RULES The Annual Conference Program shall be the order of business with the right to make changes as necessary. Admission to the business mee�ngs and workshops shall be by badge issued upon registra�on. Delegates shall have designa�on noted on badge. In the event a state delegate cannot atend the conference, another member of the state may, upon proper clearance by the Creden�als Commitee, assume that status. Rules regarding mo�ons: a. A delegate must be wearing her iden�fica�on badge to present a mo�on. b. Before a delegate may speak, the member shall rise, and be recognized by the presiding officer. She shall give her name and state. Rules regarding debate: a. Any delegate may par�cipate in debate, a�er being recognized by the presiding officer. b. The delegate who makes the mo�on is the first allowed to speak. c. No delegate may speak longer than two minutes on any mo�on and no longer than one minute on any amendment. d. Each delegate has the right to speak twice on the same ques�on but may not speak for the second �me so long as any delegate who has not spoken on that ques�on desires the floor. e. Total debate on a single mo�on, including amendments, shall be limited to fi�een minutes. All cell phones, pagers and other electronic devices must be turned off or in silent mode. No usage is permited during business sessions without permission of the president.
