50th OSS develops elite space warfighters

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 50th Operations Support Squadron is responsible for training future space warfighters at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado.

Senior Airman Jelani Alcott, 50th OSS GPS satellite system operator instructor, said it is important for the warfighters of Schriever AFB to perform their jobs at an elite level.

“It is the job of the 50th OSS to provide the fundamentals and ground work for new and cross training Airmen to understand the systems they will work with,” he said. “We break down exactly what we do and put our students in the advanced warfighter mindset. We need to break down how they previously thought about how things work and teach them how space works.”

Alcott said although Schriever Airmen go to Vandenberg AFB, California, for technical training, they report to the 50th OSS at Schriever AFB, to learn specifics of how to work on an operations floor with the latest technology.

“By having our advanced training here, we’re able to ensure Airmen are more up-to-date on changes to the systems, have more on-the-job training, and familiarize themselves with their future co-workers, leadership and the operations floors they will work on.”

Alcott said the 2nd Space Operations Squadron courses last anywhere from one to five months, with the average class having five students.

“The training taught by the 50th OSS is much more specialized than what is taught at Vandenberg,” he said. “While Vandenberg does a fantastic job of creating an understanding of space and our operations, we teach our warfighters the specific details on how to perform their unit’s mission.”

Alcott said although enlisted personnel come directly from technical training, officers typically go from their commissioning source to Schriever AFB then to Vandenberg AFB for training and back to Schriever AFB for training with the 50th OSS. “Officers focus more on administration and authorization,” he said.

“For 2 SOPS, officers go through the satellite vehicle operator portion of the course, which covers more information about commanding, ensuring the satellite constellation is healthy, verifying commands, and making decisions on what actions need to be taken.”

Alcott said the 50th OSS has different instructors that train Airmen for assignment to the 1st SOPS, 2nd SOPS and 4th SOPS, all of which have missions with a global impact.

“An error with even just one of our satellites can have world-wide effects,” he said. “If our signal is inaccurate, if there is a signal degradation in the area, an emergency responder could go into the wrong house or to the wrong location, which could lead to a loss of life.”

Alcott said Airmen are required to score 80 percent or higher, successfully pass simulations and a final evaluation to graduate.

“By continually developing elite warfighters, we’re evolving space and cyberspace warfighting superiority,” he said.

Alcott said he enjoys being an instructor for the 50th OSS. “It’s extremely rewarding to be an instructor,” he said. “Seeing your students grow and learn discipline, the command structure, crew communication and how our systems work, it’s really rewarding.”

Alcott said he hasn’t had a student fail a class yet.

“Despite my high expectations and the difficult coursework, the students continue to amaze me,” he said.

Airman 1st Class Phillipe Breault, 50th OSS student, said he is proud to be a part of the squadron.

“Being a part of the 50th OSS is special,” he said. “They have a legacy of success and a long history of training professional space warfighters.”

Breault said he feels more prepared to be assigned to a unit.

“With the classes I’m taking through the 50th OSS, I’m more confident in my abilities to perform my job,” he said. “The training I’m receiving is phenomenal and although there are times when the coursework can get tough, I’m excited to go to my unit and perform the duties I was taught.”

ustrian psychiatrist, neurologist and Holocaust survivor Viktor Frankl once said, “Everything can be taken from a person but one thing, the last of human freedoms — the right to choose one’s attitude given any situation or circumstance, to choose one’s own way.”

In his book, “Man’s Search for Meaning,” Frankl wrote that during his time spent in a concentration camp, he saw how one’s attitude could determine the chance of survival — literally one’s attitude could be a matter of life and death. He studied fellow prisoners and could almost predict whether they had already given up on life by their attitude. Those who did give up, died — many times within a few days.

First, I’d ask you to think about your profession — really think about it. You are part of an institution and it just so happens that institution is the greatest air, space and cyber force the world has ever known. You should feel proud of what you’re a part of — your attitude should reflect that pride.

To be part of an institution that comprises a fraction of one percent of the total population of our great nation, is a tremendous honor. As part of that less-than-one percent, your contributions have a direct influence on our ability to protect and defend the rights and freedoms of the other

No matter what we have going on in our life, no matter if the walls feel like they are crumbling down around us, we still have the ability to control our attitude. Life is challenging — the demands of family, work and a variety of other things can seem overwhelming at times.

Yes, there are agencies available to help us through those trying times, but there are also little things we can do to help ourselves and those around us. I’ll be the first to tell you I am not a doctor, I’m just a simple Airman from the California Central Valley attempting to pass on some of my personal experiences and observations.

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 50th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters and 50th Security Forces Squadron defenders participated in a combined active shooter rescue task force training lead by Dominick Pagano, Threat Suppression Incorporated instructor, at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, Aug. 26-30, to practice their coordination efforts.

Mark Captain, 50th CES fire chief, said active shooter response techniques have evolved in the 20 years since the Columbine High School, Colorado, incident where first responders were staged outside of the threat area waiting for the security teams to secure the area.

“During the time delay, victims located in other areas of the school needed immediate medical attention and did not receive assistance,” Captain said. “We don’t want this to occur on Schriever AFB.” Mark Crain, 50th CES fire department driver and operator, said the training highlights the need for first responders to be proactive.

“Unfortunately the world we live in today requires us to train like this,” Crane said. “Working with 50th SFS in this situation is important because it is not a fire we are dealing with, it’s a situation where we can potentially get shot trying to get to victims render aid.”

U.S. Space Command recognizes establishment

By U.S. Space Command Public Affairs PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — U.S. Space Command Commander Gen. John W. “Jay” Raymond recognized the establishment of the nation’s 11th combatant command in a joint ceremony here today.

Following the formal establishment ceremony in the White House Rose Garden Aug. 29, today’s ceremony provided an opportunity for the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines to hear from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. and Raymond on the importance of the USSPACECOM mission.

“The enduring mission of the Defense Department is to provide combat credible military forces that deter war, protect the nation, and respond if deterrence fails,” said Dunford. “As General Raymond and others have been saying for years, ‘we can no longer take our access to space for granted.’ Space is a contested domain. The implications to that facts effects our ability to fight and win on future battlefields. In that context, we didn’t re-establish U.S. Space Command simply to compete in space.

We formed this command as a foundational element of more effective joint warfighting.”

The USSPACECOM mission is to deter aggression and conflict, defend U.S. and allied freedom of action, deliver space combat power for the joint/ combined force, and develop joint warfighters to advance U.S. and allied interests in, from and through the space domain.

“We find ourselves at a strategic inflection point, where there is nothing we do as a joint force that isn’t enabled by space. Yet, simultaneously, we can no longer have the luxury of assuming space superiority,” Raymond stated as he addressed several hundred in attendance. “The mantle of responsibility that has been passed is heavy indeed. This command will have much to do with the preservation of our nation’s ability to preserve peace, assure our freedoms, and guarantee the sovereignty of the United States for future generations.”

DryTri tests physical limits

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Airmen participated in the inaugural dry triathlon at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, Sept. 6. The event consisted of a 2,000-meter row, 300 body squats and a 5K run.

Kristina Brandes, 2nd Space Operations Squadron, said the event seemed interesting and unlike anything else the fitness center has put on, so she wanted to challenge herself with something new.

“I also love to work with the staff at the fitness center during all of the events they put on,” she said.

To prepare, Brandes went through the event several times in practice and in different orders, changing things up, to make sure her body was ready for the stress.

The next fitness center event is the annual

half-marathon starting at 8 a.m. Oct. 4.

“During the event, I was very fatigued and my legs were definitely worked hard to the point that during the transition from the squats to the run I had to re-orient myself because my legs were shaking and unstable,” she said. “After I finished, I was even more fatigued but felt great because I had finished the event.”

Brandes said the hardest part of the event was the transition between the exercises.

“Each exercise stressed different muscles and winded you in a different way, so trying to actively recover from one exercise while performing the next was a challenge, especially when you are performing for time,” she said.

Lt. Col. Teina Stallings-Lilly, 19th SOPS director of operations, welcomes new fitness challenges to maintain a healthy life balance.

“This was an awesome opportunity to step outside my comfort zone,” she said. “The DriTri was a great event, I hope we continue to have it every year.”

First Lt. Brady Weaver, 4th SOPS, finished first among the males with a time of 40:27:00 and 2nd Lt. Nastassia Arrington, 4th SOPS, finished first among the females with a time of 47:36:00.

Stallings-Lilly was shocked, and grateful, when she learned her results.

“I just hoped to complete the event for a sense of satisfaction, but placing in the top three for females, that was an added bonus,” she said.

Brandes, who finished second among the females, said events like this are important for Airmen because it gets us out of the office and puts a healthy stress on our bodies and minds.

“We get to meet new people with a like-minded attitude toward athletic competitions and working out in general,” she said. “Not everyone is into the same thing, in terms of working out, but these events offer an opportunity to get out and try something new in a safe way.”

“We get to see not only what the fire department does, but we also get to practice how we work together,” Bilgers said.

“We are able to go over tactics, learn each other’s styles and respond together to save more lives.”

The training was a one-day session conducted five times to train as many responders as possible. Each training day included four hours of classroom training followed by four hours of field exercises.

“The field exercises consisted of practicing various maneuvers to enhance our

We’ve all worked with people who when they walk into a room, the mood automatically shifts (Debbie downers if you will — no offense to anyone named Debbie). Those attitudes affect all with whom they come into contact.

“Familiarization of the equipment we use as first responders for more than the active shooter-type incidents is important,” Captain said. “This is just the beginning; we need to continually train together to keep proficient in the procedures learned this week.”

PATRIOT DAY GIVE BACK On Friday Sept. 6, Mt. Carmel honored 400 military & veteran families at our Patriot Day Give Back, an annual event recognizing the sacrifice of military, veterans and their families before and since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

During opening remarks, Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers shared Mt. Carmel’s positive impact supporting the military and veteran community in the areas of career and transition, behavioral health and supportive services. This followed a community information fair and breakfast highlighting Mt. Carmel’s partnered services.

Following opening ceremonies, more than 60 volunteers joined us to present

400 military and veteran families with two weeks of fresh produce, groceries, personal hygiene items and sports equipment, all courtesy of generous sponsors: Coalition to Salute America’s Heroes, Feed the Children, and Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado.

Extra items from the event were shared with non-profit community partners who help veterans including Catholic Charities, The Salvation Army, and others.

NITED STATES AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The Schriever and U.S. Air Force Academy Airmen and Family Readiness Centers co-hosted a mock deployment exercise geared toward military children at U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado, Sept. 7.

Master Sgt. Peter Uson, Schriever AFB AFRC readiness noncommissioned officer, said the event, called Kids Understanding Deployment Operations, gives military children the opportunity to get familiar with the deployment process.

“This event helps [children] better understand and relate to their parents as they go through the different phases of a deployment,” he said.

The event brought approximately 67 children from the Schriever AFB and USAFA military communities together to participate.

“This is the first time two bases have come together for a KUDOS event,” Uson said. “Overall, KUDOS together was successful.”

Uson said a big factor in the Air Force Academy hosting the event was the availability of resources to provide an effective deployment experience.

“As readiness NCOs we try to maintain good working relationships with each other and take advantage of the opportunities each base has to offer,” he said. “When USAFA offered to host, we were really excited because it gave us a chance for us to see how KUDOS events are really done.”

Children were assigned to three different groups and experienced a deployment line, K-9 demonstration, confidence course, 13th Air Support Operations Squadron Tactical Air Control Party display, and were provided lunch.

The event culminated with a welcome home celebration where parents and USAFA athletes welcomed the “deployers” home with cupcakes.

Micah, 11, said the event gave him insight into the deployment experience.

“When I was a little younger, my mom and dad both deployed at the same time,” he said.

“I knew they were gone for work, but I didn’t understand exactly what it meant. KUDOS helped me [understand] and made me think about joining the Air Force. I’d like to be TACP.” More than 50 volunteers, supported the event and Uson said it event would not have gone as well as it did without their support. continued on next page

“Our chalk leaders, Fort Carson, medical, Tactical Air Control Party, and [base] security forces were crucial to the success of the event,” he said. “It took a lot of preparation, and we started coordination for the event about four months ago.”

Airman 1st Class Josh Dickens, 50th Force Support Squadron customer service, one of Schriever’s volunteers, said it was a phenomenal experience to work with the children in his chalk.

“There are a lot of processes and emotions involved when someone deploys, especially for families with children, so it is valuable for the children to see and actually experience it on their own.”

“The way the event was set up and organized was impressive,” he said. “Seeing the kids go through the obstacle course was fun and it was amazing to see them learn about the deployment experience their parents may have to go through. It was refreshing hanging out with the military children. They were full of life and excitement during the event.”

Uson said he hoped children who participated in KUDOS went home with a better idea of what their parents go through during the phase of a deployment.

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 50th Space Wing Program Management Directorate acquires and maintains mission and mission support contracts at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado.

Contacting and working with the 50th SW PMD is the first step in acquiring a contract on Schriever AFB. Nancy Anderson, 50th Space Wing PMD director, said the directorate works closely with the 50th Contracting Squadron, among other units, to ensure Schriever AFB has the contractor support it needs to keep Schriever at the forefront of space.

“If any mission requirement needs to be fulfilled through contractor support, it is our

duty to help the customer achieve those goals.”

“We’re here to be the 50th Space Wing’s acquisition center of excellence,” she said.

“If any mission requirement needs to be fulfilled through contractor support, it is our duty to help the customer achieve those goals.”

Anderson said the 50th PMD often works behind the scenes in the contract acquisition process.

“We help our customer generate requirements, complete the government cost estimate, acquire funding and help them complete a requirement package,” she said. “From there it would go to CONS. Once completed, the requirements package is sent to 50th CONS to advertise to industry.”

Anderson said the 50th SW PMD manages contracts that will provide support to multiple locations within Air Force Space Command, such as the 30th, 45th, 50th and 460th SWs; 614th Air Operations Center; and the 14th Air Force Communications Control Center.

“We have two of the AFSPC enterprise contracts: the defensive cyberspace operations and cyber defense engineering and training contracts,” she said. “We’re

the only office that has those contracts in AFSPC. They designated the 50th SW as the pathfinder for implementing cyber defense by engineering and integrating cyber defense capabilities and protecting, detecting and responding to mission systems cyber-attacks. Additionally, we have been asked to take on the acquisition of the Cyberspace Defense Consolidation and the CDET II contracts that will impact units across AFSPC.” Though the 50th SW PMD is the contract requirement approval authority for the wing according to Anderson, they wouldn’t be able to complete their mission without help.

“We work hand-in-hand and day-in and day-out with the 50th CONS team, without their tireless efforts, our mission would be all for nothing,” she said.

Kim Elster, 50th SW PMD deputy director, said the process of acquiring and managing a contract involves three multifunctional teams: • Core cadre — technical and functional experts made up of the 50th SW PMD and 50th CONS • Advisor cadre — members of an organization impacted by requirements of a contract • Oversight cadre — PMD leadership, 50th CONS and the customer Anderson said the process of acquiring a contract isn’t something that occurs overnight.

“We work with the 14th Air Force to define requirements and create the package for our contracts,” she said.

“The 50th CONS will find bidders for the contract and from there Air Force Space Command will award the contract,” she said.

Elster said the 50th SW PMD only manages contracts that directly affect the mission and mission support.

“Our contractors are operating, maintaining and defending our mission systems while also implementing cyber defense solutions for the AFSPC enterprise,” she said. “Performing our job correctly and in a timely manner ensures contractors are in place to perform the AFSPC and 50th SW mission efficiently and effectively.”

Elster said the 50th PMD aims to improve Schriever AFB’s warfighting capabilities.

“By acquiring effective contracts, we can help ensure the warfighters of Schriever are able to protect, detect and respond to cyber threats,” she said.

21st Medical Squadron breaks ground for new addition

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.

— The 21st Medical Squadron at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, broke ground to expand the medical facility Sept. 5.

Col. James Smith, 50th Space Wing commander, presided over the ceremony.

“This is an exciting day for Schriever as we continue to build services for our team,” he said. “This building was originally built in 2004, so before 2004 our folks didn’t even have health care available on base. We’ve come a long way since then and we have a long way to go to build the support we need for what Team Schriever has become today.”

“I’m excited for what the future holds and

anxious to get this project started.”

Smith said although the clinic has been working in less than optimal conditions, they continue to execute their mission every day.

“They continue to provide outstanding support,” he said.

Smith explained phase one began when leadership broke ground, and will continue until September of 2020.

“The building represents the Air Force’s commitment to improve the health and well-being of our Airmen and their families on this fast growing base,” he said. “I’m excited for what the future holds and anxious

Phase two will consist of renovating the old building and consolidating the physical therapy clinic and health and wellness center into one building.

Capt. Megan Maxwell, 21st MDS representative for the project, said the project planning began in 2010, and the building was designed in 2018.

“We’ve [medical group] doubled in size over the past 15 years, and we’re really busting at the seams,” she said. “We’re growing, and this will give us the space we need.”

The current medical facility is 15 years old and currently has 11,000 square feet.

The building was built for 26 manpower authorizations but currently houses 55 staff members and 2,592 patients. The ad-

dition will provide more than 14,100 gross square feet, doubling the size of the current building.

Construction will not impact appointments, however parking may change.

“It’s just going to be better for the patients,” she said. “If the staff can be more efficient, it’s going to improve the overall patient experience. That’s the end goal.”

STAR teams enhance Schriever medical readiness By 2nd Lt Idalí Beltré Acevedo 50th Space Wing Public Affairs

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.

— The Space Team for Airmen Resilience program will commence operations at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, Oct. 1.

Maj. David Beutler, 21st Medical Squadron STAR operational support flight commander, explained what comprises a STAR team and its purpose.

“STAR is based on the operational support team, which is a relatively new Air Force wide concept to have a medical team imbed inside a line unit to observe the medical and mental health needs of the unit,” he said. “The main OST organization is the 711th at Wright-Patterson, Air Force Base, [Ohio].”

According to the Air Force Surgeon General public affairs office, “the Air Force Medical Service is supporting that effort by rolling out a new health care model at the squadron level, called operational support teams. These teams rotate through squadrons at a base, seeking to improve individual health and squadron performance. By focusing on each squadron’s unique job, needs and environment, the OST can address the root causes of illness and injuries, and ensure readiness.”

Beutler said STAR will make its debut within Schriever’s 50th Operations Group.

The success of the program will determine further reach.

“It is a pilot program within Air Force Space Command, so it is pretty fluid right now as we are setting up. We will be imbedded with the 50th Operations Group only,” he said. “We will make recommendations to leadership and if [the program] is deemed successful, will likely rotate through other units needing STAR assistance.”

Beutler said the aim is for STAR to go live by Oct. 1, as the hiring process is still ongoing.

“I am the physician assistant and the STAR team lead. We currently have a medical technician (Staff Sgt. Anissa Testaverde, 21st Medical Squadron Technician, Air National Guard), a chaplain (Capt. Jordan Huggins, 50th Space Wing chaplain, Air Force Reserve), and a chaplain assistant (Master Sgt. Randy

Flanery, 302nd Airlift Wing chaplain assistant, Air Force Reserve),” he said. “We are currently in the hiring stage for a psychologist and a social worker, both civilian general schedule positions.”

Beutler explained STAR is a voluntary assignment for its members.

“My position was selected (as the flight medicine physician assistant), however, I am fully involved and excited for this pilot,” he said. “The team positions were selected to best help with the mental and physical needs of the unit.”

Beutler said the debut headquarters of STAR will be in the restricted area.

“We will be located within the RA, located near the bio environmental engineering offices and Bennie’s Breakroom,” he said. “A new location will be established pending approval and [we] will likely move there mid-October.”

Flanery, explained why he decided to volunteer for STAR. “I decided to participate in the STAR program for two reasons; to have the opportunity to create a more resilient atmosphere by simply utilizing my chaplain assistant core capabilities, one being the engagement of my fellow Airman,” he said.

“Secondly, to share my resiliency experiences and tools with anyone who’s willing to listen and take some positive steps on their side to make positive changes within the 50th Space Wing.”

Flanery elaborated on the chaplain’s office involvement and goals within the program and how he believes it will help increase the office’s engagement with Airmen and in turn, Airmen resilience, one of the key words in the STAR acronym.

“It has to do with connection and 100 percent confidentiality. The chaplain corps has a goal of being out and about, engaging our fellow Airmen, a minimum of 40 percent each day,” he said. “Keeping up with this pace, meeting this goal of trustbuilding and personal engagement with Airmen will create resiliency [because] these specific individuals now have a confidant they can speak to.”

Schriever senior NCO earns 2018 AFA Awards By 2nd Lt. Idalí Beltré Acevedo 50th Space Wing Public Affairs

AURORA, Colo. — The Lance P. Sijan Chapter of the Air Force Association nominated three Schriever Air Force Base Airmen for the 2018 AFA Airmen of the Year award.

The award ceremony took place at the AFA Mile High Chapter in Aurora, Colorado, Aug. 17, 2019.

Master Sgt. Benjamin Davis, 50th Mission Support Group, 50th Force Support Squadron and Wing Staff Agencies first sergeant, was the winner for First Sergeant of the Year.

“We are one team working together to support the amazing

men and women of Schriever AFB.” Davis expressed gratitude for representing Team Schriever as one of the selected nominees.

“I was deeply honored to represent Schriever Air Force Base at the Colorado Air Force Association State Convention,” he said. “I know, and see daily, all the amazing work our Airmen at Schriever AFB accomplish while pushing the boundaries of innovation and it’s an honor to represent them.”

Davis said winning this award was a team effort.

“Winning the Colorado AFA State First Sergeant of the Year Award is humbling, I’m blessed to work with an amazing group of first sergeants and I know this award is a reflection of all the hard work each of them brings to the fight each day,” he said. “We are one team working together to support the amazing men and women of Schriever AFB.” The awards were presented in the categories of Airman of the Year, NCO of the Year, senior NCO of the Year, First Sergeant of the Year, Company Grade Officer of the Year, Civilian Category I (GS 1-8), and Civilian Category II (GS 9-13).

Tech Sgt. Alayna DeHerrera, 50th Wing Staff Agency administrative support non-commissioned officer in charge, and Lisa Barnett, 50th Operations Support Squadron secretary, were recognized in the top three nominees for the categories of NCO and Civilian Category I.

Linda Aldrich, AFA Colorado state president, explained the process to nominate Airmen for AFA Awards.

“The Air force chapter asks for nominations from all units in the state of Colorado,” she said. “We ask for a standard Air Force form 1206, the same one that is used to nominate Airmen for awards based on their leadership, job performance, primary duties, Whole Airman Concept and community involvement within their units.”

Aldrich explained the awards are also open to reserve and guard units.

“We contact the command chief for all of the Air Force commands in the state of Colorado, which includes reserve and guard units,” she said. “That’s why we think these awards are kind of special because they reach beyond the

standard active-duty awards by reaching to the reserve and guard community.”

Aldrich said she was overwhelmed by the amount of nominations the AFA received for this year’s awards.

“We received over 70 nominations from the Air Force bases in Colorado, so it was difficult to narrow such outstanding nominations down to three in each category,” she said.

Aldrich said Schriever AFB nominees received full support from their peers during the awards ceremony.

“We were pleased that Col. James Smith and so many people from the 50th Space Wing attended to support the nominees who were selected by the awards board to be in the top three nominations for First Sergeant, NCO and Civilian Cat I of the Year categories.”

21st Medical Squadron: • Schriever Medical clinic will close for training 2:30 p.m. Sept. 20 for an official function.

50th Force Support Squadron: • Most 50th FSS facilities will close all day for a unit function Friday.

• The child development center and dining facility will remain open, and the outdoor recreation office in Building 300 will open 7:15 — 8:15 a.m.

• The fitness center will close for general use.

ON BASE Space War Stories

The 50th Operations Support Squadron will host Space War Stories, a forum to highlight the importance and mission impact of the space community, 1 — 2 p.m. Monday in the Building 300 auditorium.

Schriever personnel and their family members are invited to a staff and family tour 11:45 a.m. — 4 p.m. Sept. 20. All tour stops are inside the restricted area, and will start with lunch at the Dish dining facility. Space is limited, so it’s first come, first served. Children are welcome, however, most of the tour may be too technical to keep the attention of young children, and the tour will include stairs and standing with limited room, so strollers cannot be accommodated. 6 Tips to Protect Your Family from Fire

1. Install smoke alarms on each level of your home, outside each sleeping area and inside each bedroom.

2. Install carbon monoxide alarms on each level of your home and outside sleeping areas (within 15 ft.).

3. Post current emergency phone numbers (fire, police, poison control, utilities, etc.) in a common area.

4. Know where your emergency shut-offs are for gas, water and electricity, and how to safely shut them off.

5. Keep a multipurpose fire extinguisher inside your home and a safe distance from your stove for quick access.

6. Plan and practice your escape: know at least two ways out and establish a meeting point.
