OVERWATCH, SAFETY to Airmen
Jim Kuhn, 50th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, wears protective gear during an equipment inspection March 6, 2020 at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado. Firefighters at Schriever AFB wear respiratory equipment when responding in hazardous environments that could hinder their ability to breathe, such as an area with heavy smoke.
50TH CES FIREFIGHTERS WORK 48-HOUR SHIFTS followed by 72 hours off-duty, meaning they live at the firehouse four days of the week barring overtime requirments.
The 50th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighters must stay fit year-round to respond to any crisis that may occur on or near the base. To stay fit, a firefighter is pushing a weighted sled as a workout.
