Schriever Dental Clinic adjusts operations due to COVID-19

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Schriever Dental Clinic members continue their mission to maintain the readiness and lethality of the force despite the global pandemic.

The clinic is offering deployment exams and triage appointments for emergency situations while engaging COVID-19 prevention measures.

Additionally, the clinic implemented temperature screenings prior to allowing building access, updated questionnaires, enhanced telephone triage services and added additional disinfection procedures to protect personnel.

Ultimately, the dental clinic’s mission is to provide care to Airmen and ensure

they stay fit to fight.

“It’s important for us to continue operations because there are Airmen conducting critical actions who cannot afford to pause,” said Tech. Sgt. Janee Tamayo, 21st Medical Squadron dental flight chief. “Keeping the clinic open provides a channel for disseminating important, accurate information and reassurance for Airmen and their families who still need access to certain functions. Although dental has curtailed most of our direct patient care, our technicians and providers are busy supporting some of the new clinic protocols and initiatives associated with COVID-19.”

Much like many other active units, COVID-19 presents new challenges for the clinic that Airmen must adapt to and overcome. Due to the nationwide shortage of protective equipment, clinic personnel have had to scrutinize every aspect of their operations in order to conserve those assets and to protect themselves and their patients.

gether to make sure our team is well equipped,” said Airman 1st Class Jonathan Barrios, 21st MDS dental technician.

“I definitely take pride in working with a unit that is still active, we are here to take care of our Airmen.”

The dental flight has been split into two rotating shifts to limit potential exposure and support COVID-19 taskings.

“It’s tough not being together as a team, but [our measures] contribute to taking care of people,” said Tamayo.

“In terms of the overall clinic, the 21st Medical Squadron

has always worked well as a team thanks to being a small unit where dental is not geographically separated from the primary care center.”

Ultimately, the dental clinic’s mission is to provide care to Airmen and ensure they stay fit to fight. While keeping precautionary measures in mind, it’s vital their mission continues.

“Our Airmen keep the mission going,” Tamayo said.

“Nothing happens unless our Airmen are taken care of.”

Japanese astronaut prepares for flight aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon By 2nd Lt. Idalí Beltré Acevedo 50th Space Wing Public Affairs

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — Four 50th Wing Staff Agency Airmen attended a SpaceX briefing on its latest developments and future travel plans to the International Space Station, by Soichi Noguchi, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut, at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, April 17.

Col. Jack Fischer, 50th Space Wing vice commander and former NASA astronaut, shared the conference, “Preparing for flight aboard SpaceX/Crew Dragon: Post Certification Mission 1,” to keep Airmen engaged and informed on the cooperative efforts to further the space mission alongside SpaceX, Space Force and NASA. “Soichi’s purpose was to share with astronauts and cosmonauts the current status of the Crew Dragon flights and answer questions about training,” Fischer said. “My purpose [in broadcasting the conference] was to share a neat experience with the Airmen and hopefully, inspire them a bit. Despite COVID, space exploration is continuing … and is awesome.”

Noguchi, who has been an astronaut since 1996, will travel aboard SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft (also known as Dragon) to the International Space Station alongside three NASA astronauts.

The mission, US Crew Vehicle-1, also known as Crew-1, is tentatively set for August 2020. USCV-1 will be the first crewed operational flight of SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft.

During the presentation, Noguchi talked about his training for the upcoming Crew-1 mission, elaborated on the design of the Crew Dragon spacecraft and addressed questions from the astronaut and space focused online conference attendees.

Noguchi also introduced the mission that precedes Crew-1, Demo-2.

“We are now preparing for the first flight of SpaceX and that mission is called Demo-2,” Noguchi said. “NASA astronauts Robert Behnken [Colonel, U.S. Air Force] and Douglas Hurley [Colonel, U.S. Marine Corps, Ret.] are training for [what will be] a certification mission. The launch is slated for May 27.”

Moreover, the unprecedented Demo-2 certification mission will feature the first crew of astronauts to launch from American soil since the termination of the Space Shuttle Program in 2011 via the Space Transportation System 135 launch.

“Most of the space training will be conducted in Los Angeles, California, [at] SpaceX headquarters,” he said.

“Some of the training will take place in Houston, Texas so I will be moving between those two states.”

Fischer shared his time as a NASA astronaut emphasized the importance of training for a mission in space.

“The most important training is the emergency training in your transport vehicle and aboard the space station,” he said. “Those procedures have to be second nature so that when [the environment] is smoky, dark and potentially toxic, you can resort to your memorized response and stabilize the situation.”

Fischer and Noguchi bonded as they trained together for previous NASA missions.

“He was in the astronaut office during my entire time [at the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas],” he said. “We did all sorts of stuff together, including some spacewalk training in our huge pool, the Neutral Buoyancy Lab. He is pure class, and has a big heart. He’s just a great guy.”

When recalling his 2017 mission in space — where he logged 136 days in space with two spacewalks, Fischer remembered the negative effects of gravity he felt on his body, but highlighted the rewarding experience of going to space more than made up for the temporary discomfort.

“After a long mission, coming back isn’t fun, to put it bluntly, gravity sucks,” he said. “After turning off your vestibular system for a while, the turbulent ride of atmospheric re-entry, parachute opening and landing are definitely not fun. But, you got to go to space, so it’s definitely worth it.”

Fischer said both historical missions will have a significant impact on furthering the U.S. space mission and reestablishing the American space program as a world leader.

“These astronauts will be flying in a vehicle made by Americans, in America, on an American rocket powered

by American engines,” he said. “We’re witnessing the epicenter of space exploration coming back to our country, and it’s exciting to see the re-emergence of U.S. space [flight] power as we define the future.”

ACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Troubled times tend to amplify both the positives and negatives in humanity. And while social media tends to focus on the negatives, amid the severity of the current situation, a beautiful thing is occurring.

We are physically more isolated from each other than we have ever been, but I believe this time of crisis and social distancing is ultimately bringing us together.

COVID-19 does not differentiate when it comes to race, religion or social status. We are beginning to realize that we are all in this together. As a result, we are becoming increasingly kind toward each other.

Even though I am seeing people panicking and hoarding supplies, I am also seeing neighbors helping each other. Even though I am seeing people behave carelessly, I am also seeing support groups popping up everywhere. A lot of acts of kindness are happening around us at all times. And while these acts of kindness might not get our attention as much as people fighting over toilet paper, we should continue to perform them as much as we can.

The most noticeable development is that we are checking on each other more often.

Regardless of what any introvert says, humans are social creatures and we need to communicate to survive. Where we could send a quick text before, many of us are choosing to make a phone call. FaceTime dates are becoming for some the best option to socialize while protecting the safety of everyone involved.

My family has had two birthdays since the quarantine started. We got about 20 of us to join a group FaceTime for both of them. It was a mess! But we were all together despite our physical distance. We also revived an old WhatsApp family chat, where we can all share memes or argue about politics or just plain roast each other. It feels like time has stopped and somehow reverted back to when I was growing up with my cousins all together.

We are now more than ever finding ways to remain connected with those who matter in our lives because we understand that they can be gone at any moment in a crisis such as this.

It is difficult to predict how the COVID-19 crisis will evolve.

Things might get worse before they get better. We face more

it comes to race, religion or social status. challenging times ahead, but eventually, things will go back to normal. Like everyone, I hope this happens soon. I miss complaining about how tired I am or how much I “love” my job. But mostly, I hope that when that day comes, we remember this crisis as one that brought us together and made us be kind to each other. The challenge will be to keep it that way while we go back to our daily lives.

Schriever AFAF Campaign encourages Airmen to

‘PAY IT FORWARD’

The Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign began Thursday at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, and will run through May 8. Campaign donations will help past and current Airmen as well as spouses and Airmen widows and widowers. Schriever Airmen raised $18,500 in 2019 and expect to raise $25,342 for the Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Village Charitable Foundation, the Air Force Enlisted Village and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. Lemay Foundation.

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign began Thursday at Schriever Air Force Base and will run through May 8.

Schriever Airmen raised $18,500 in 2019 and expect to raise $25,342 for multiple charities this year.

The campaign is an annual, on-the-job fundraiser Airmen conduct to benefit other Airmen — past and current. The AFAF campaign contributions provide financial support to the four affiliates. Those include: the Air Force Aid Society, the Air Force Village Charitable Foundation, the Air Force Enlisted Village and the General and Mrs. Curtis E. Lemay Foundation.

“The AFAF is unlike any other charity as it focuses on us — active duty members and retirees,” said Senior MSgt. Jason Spedding, 50th Security Forces Squadron operations superintendent and AFAF project officer. “This is the only official “for Airmen, by Airmen” campaign. We have to depend on each other to provide for the increased assistance demand that will certainly increase in coming weeks.”

The campaign typically involves face-to-face interaction to collect donations, but physical distancing guidelines forced Airmen to develop an alternate plan. Now, group project officers will contact Airmen by phone or email to let them know of the campaign/opportunity.

“It’s the virus that makes this year’s campaign so important,” he said. “Giving to the AFAF campaign is ‘paying it forward,’ because as Airmen, we never know when we or our families are going to need the assistance of one of these charities who have helped us take care of our own for years.”

The AFAS, established in 1942 by General Henry H. Arnold, attempts to accomplish three missions with its funds: Emergency financial assistance to Airmen and their families, educational support and community enhancement programs.

“For over 75 years, the AFAS has been providing Airmen grants during emergencies,” said 1st Lt. Joshua Lewis, 3rd Space Experimentation Squadron officer in charge of evaluations and AFAF project officer. “Air Force Aid also helps fund college tuition for spouses and dependent children through their scholarship programs.

AFAS community enhancement programs vary from base to base, but on Schriever AFB they include: Bundles for Babies, Give Parents a Break, childcare for PCS and volunteers, Heartlink and Car Care Because We Care.”

Funds also assist retired Airmen’s spouses to help alleviate financial hardships.

The General and Mrs. Curtis E. Lemay Foundation, named after Air Force’s fifth chief of staff, “has helped over 1,000” retirees’ widows and widowers with emergency expenses and home repairs and medical needs.

“Since 1987, the LeMay Foundation has provided assistance through grants,” Lewis said.

“The LeMay Foundation is here so our surviving spouses can remain living in their own home with the dignity that they deserve after standing with us all those years while we were in the Air Force. Most of their donations come from us active duty Airmen.”

The AFVCF provides financial support for surviving spouses of officers. Donations support “Blue Skies of Texas,” which offers independent living homes, assisted living facilities and memory and nursing care. The AFEV also strives to help surviving spouses of officers afford housing without financial struggles.

“Both [the AFVCF and AFEV] provide surviving spouses a home with like-minded Air Force family members that’s close to military medical facilities and benefits,” Spedding said. “We have to depend on each other to provide for the increased assistance demand that will certainly increase in coming weeks. Please help your fellow Airman by giving today.”

COVID-19 can’t stop 50th LRF’s mission

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — As COVID-19 continues to alter workflow and life at Schriever Air Force Base, the 50th Logistics Readiness Flight works to ensure the safety of the base and to assist Airmen in completing their missions.

The 50th LRF normally provides support through deployment and training notifications as well as final outprocessing actions. They also issue and track critical mobility readiness equipment for deployers including weapons and mobility bags.

“You can always count on the 50th LRF to continue support for the

mission during normal day-to-day operations, or adjust to the unknown.”

On March 25, though, the Pentagon halted overseas travel for military members for 60 days to slow the spread of COVID-19. The halt previously expected to end May 11 but was extended to June 30.

The order altered part of the 50th LRF’s mission and affected about 35 Schriever Airmen. Much of the 50th LRF’s mission, however, remained intact. “[The Department of Defense] directed stop-movement on all [outside continental U.S.] deployments; however, downrange [combatant commands] may approve exceptions to policy movements on a case-by-case basis,” said David Collins, 50th LRF director. “Tasked deployers will continue pre-deployment actions/training in order to be prepared to move upon termination of the current stopmovement or approved exceptions to policy.

“If pre-deployment training involves [temporary duty travel] to another location, deployers are required to comply with applicable reporting instructions and/or quarantine requirements at both the forward location as well as for returning to home station or to their port of embarkation.”

Collins said the “workload has actually increased” as they continue to advise commanders on actions required for deployed Airmen during the 60-day stop-movement order.

The 50th Logistics Readiness Flight optimized the space in its warehouse Jan. 16, 2020 to allow several Airmen conduct a deployment inventory retrieve required equipment. On April 3 and 8, 50th Contracting Squadron used the warehouse to distribute medical supplies to battle COVID-19.

“[Airmen] can’t just get on an airplane and move to their final destination,” said Cynthia Shuff, 50th LRF assistant installation deployment officer. “Deployment taskings are still coming in and out, so we still have to send any changes to commanders. We’ve had to notify all the deployers who still have to do deployment training. They still have to do their [chemical] warfare training and their pre-deployment training, their firing and more.”

While 50th LRF completed its own mission, it also assisted 50th Contracting Squadron earlier this month. On April 3 and 8, the 50th CONS used 50th LRF’s warehouse

to distribute cleaning supplies to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“You can always count on the 50th LRF to continue support for the mission during normal day-to-day operations, or adjust to the unknown,” Collins said. “What we provide to the installation is vital — just ask those personnel who received the critical mission items they ordered, or the deployer who received all of their readiness equipment to protect them in a hostile environment.”

The 50th LRF plans to assist 50th CONS in future medical item distributions during COVID-19.

Class of 2020 takes graduation in stride during COVID-19 crisis

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Graduation for the Air Force Academy’s Class of 2020 may have been different from what cadets originally expected, but the ceremony on the terrazzo April 18 contained all the trappings and formality you’d expect the school to deliver.

Vice President Mike Pence changed his plans amid the global COVID-19 pandemic to give the commencement address, the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds flew over and 967 new officers closed-out their four years at the school by hurling their caps into the air at the end of the ceremony.

“Today, the 967 exceptional young leaders of the 62nd graduating class of the United States Air Force Academy started their careers as officers, and I am confident that they will take our Air and Space forces and make them their own,” said Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria, Academy superintendent, during the ceremony’s opening remarks.

Early this month, Silveria announced his plan to move the ceremony from May 28 to April 18, a move supported by Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Goldfein, which meant faculty and staff at the school ramped up their efforts to get senior cadets to an earlier-thanexpected graduation day.

The base also made several moves in March and April to keep cadets, staff and their families on the base safe from the effects of the novel coronavirus. Most freshmen, sophomores and juniors left the Academy in March and all cadets began distance learning online.

The base locked down to all but official business, and families and friends of cadets learned the graduation ceremony would not be public.

Silveria acknowledged these concerns and expressed his gratitude.

“To the parents, families, friends, loved ones, our local leaders and community members, thank you for your unwavering support,” he said.

The superintendent gave a nod to the online audience watching the event via livestream.

“This is a community we would normally welcome to Falcon Stadium, but under the current circumstances, we are honored to have your support from wherever you may be tuning in,” he said.

Missing from the ceremony were the hugs, handshakes and chest bumps cadets typically deliver after receiving their diplomas. Each cadet marched and sat six feet away from their peers before, during and after the ceremony.

Secretary of the Air Force Barbara Barrett, Goldfein, and Chief of Space Operations Gen. John Raymond were at the ceremony.

Goldfein administered the oath of office for the Air Force officers and Raymond administered the oath of office to the 86 graduating seniors who are now officers in the Space Force.

In his remarks during the ceremony, Raymond said the new Space Force officers will “fight and win the battle for space superiority.”

“You are our future and I need you to be bold,” he said.

The Space Force became an official branch of the armed forces on Dec. 20, 2109, to protect U.S. and allied interests in space.

Silveria also thanked the class of 1959, the Academy’s first graduating class, for a plaque prepared for the class of 2020 “recognizing the permanent bond between past and future, formally honoring the class of 2020 as one that has further strengthened the proud traditions of this institution.”

The graduates will leave the Academy in stages throughout April for their first Air Force assignment or return to their homes for 60 days.

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 50th Space Wing launched the Nerd Herd task force in efforts to better understand COVID-19 at Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado, March 27.

The Nerd Herd is a task force made up of 1st Space Operations Squadron Airmen dedicated to modelling the disease and its possible spread in the local area through information compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“Following the transition to a mission essential only posture at Schriever, [we] dove into the extremely limited academic research on COVID-19 and began working to model how the disease might spread and when a peak could occur in the local area,” said Capt. William Elder, 1st SOPS assistant operations officer.

Col. Jack Fischer, 50th Space Wing vice commander, dubbed the team “Nerd Herd” based on the members’ analytical nature and ability to combine well-defined mathematical and epidemiological models.

“The Nerd Herd is important to Schriever because there is no epidemiological or data analytic team directly supporting the wing,” said 1st Lt. Sarah Zaiser, 1st SOPS deputy crew commander. “There is a lot of information out there regarding COVID-19 and the decisions being made in the midst of all this uncertainty are not easy. We are trying to ease some of that uncertainty and provide helpful information to assist our leadership [in making] the best decisions possible for all those at Schriever.”

The unit primarily conducts their research from home while complying with physical distancing requirements.

“We have been working with basic epidemiological models to specifically model El Paso County and Schriever AFB [members],” Zaiser said. “Based on our research and working with other analysts [who are] looking at the effects of COVID-19 in the Air Force, we have created variations of basic suspected-infected-recovered

models. As we get new information and data we update our models and report our findings.”

Keeping Airmen healthy and protecting wing and installation missions are priorities for leadership during COVIC-19 prevention efforts.

“The Nerd Herd is providing Schriever with the background information needed for leadership to make sound decisions to keep Airmen, and the base’s missions, safe and sound — including the operation of our nation’s vital GPS satellites, relaying of scientific data from the South Pole Research Station, and the bulk of the monitoring of all man-made objects in deep space,” said Capt. Zach Funke, 1st SOPS spacecraft engineer.

As the unit receives more information about COVID-19, they create updated models of the potential spread to provide 50th SW leadership with more accurate information.

“COVID-19 has upended our entire society’s daily routines and habits with the potential for long-term physical and mental health repercussions,” said Elder. “Recognize what you have control over in an emergency or unprecedented situation and focus on accomplishing that with the strengths of your team.”

Healthy diet, fitness tips for home

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — While a lot of Airmen’s normal health and fitness routines have been curtailed due to COVID-19, maintaining a certain standard of fitness is still a requirement.

According to the United States Department of Agriculture, to stay physically fit during quarantine, a good place to start is with a healthy diet.

“A balanced diet includes appropriate portions of fresh fruit and vegetables, lean protein, low fat dairy and whole grain,” said Carol Carr, 21st Medical Squadron Health Promotion Program coordinator. “Increasing non-starchy vegetables, excluding potatoes, peas and corn, is always a good place to start.

Adequate hydration is important too, water being the preferred choice.”

The increase in downtime may cause some to struggle with indulging in unhealthy snack options due to boredom, so it’s important to make conscious decisions regarding one’s available snacks.

“Don’t keep junk food in the house,” she said. “Eat for hunger versus boredom or stress eating. Check your hunger before you reach for a snack and assess if you are actually hungry. If hungry, eat, but if not, find something else to do to save your waistline.”

Additionally, she recommends making healthy foods the easy choice by placing them within view or washing fruit prior to snacking so it is easy to grab.

“Healthy foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables that are rich in antioxidants can help boost immunity,” she said. “Eating well can help prevent you from getting sick; proper

For Airmen who may have made poor health choices in the past, it’s never too late to improve diet and fitness habits.

“Give yourself grace for past mistakes and start over,” Carr said. “Make a plan, such as a grocery shopping for healthy foods or scheduling exercise in your day. Plus, exercising can help with stress management and we

also feel better when we eat nutritious foods.”

While Airmen’s normal fitness routines may be temporarily impacted by gym closures, Airmen still have a requirement to maintain physical fitness.

“Fitness centers across the country are closed but that doesn’t mean you can’t work out,” said Seth Cannello, 50th Force Support Squadron fitness and sports manager. “There are a ton of body weight activities you can

perform at home that will keep you in shape.”

Cannello recommends Airmen run outside and perform sit-ups and push-ups indoors.

“I’d also recommend spicing things up,” he said. “Use your couch or a coffee table to do decline push-ups. Put your feet on a couch or table and extend your body forward so that you are doing a push-up but at an angle.

Perform as many repetitions as possible, then rest for approximately one minute. Do another set with the goal of performing almost as many reps as your first set.”

Here are some other exercises that can be performed at home: • Staggered push-ups • Planks Boat Pose • Kettlebell Swings • Split Squats • Walking Lunges • Skater Jumps • Goblet Squats • Side planks • Swimmers “If you want a tough workout, try doing these exercises with the goal of performing 10 sets,” Cannello said. “Ten sets might be too much for beginners, but do as many as you can. If performed properly, you should be very sweaty and tired at the end of this workout.”

Vertical wiper blades reduce aircraft drag, tests show

WASHINGTON — Aerodynamics testing on the KC-135 Stratotanker confirmed vertically mounted wiper blades reduce aircraft drag by approximately 1% during cruise conditions, potentially saving the Air Force $7 million annually in associated fuel costs.

“While 1% efficiency may not seem like a lot, it equates to millions of dollars in fuel savings each year.”

Across the KC-135 fleet, blades are positioned horizontally on the windshield as part of the aircraft’s original 1950s design.

However, as the understanding of aviation aerodynamics advanced, research indicated placing the wipers vertically when not in use could improve aerodynamic efficiency and optimize fuel use.

Commercial airliners first demonstrated the concept on the McDonnell Douglas MD-11, a jet airliner primarily used by the cargo industry, proving that retro-fitting the blades vertically could decrease costly drag by 1.2%.

As part of the effort to increase the capability of legacy aircraft, the Advanced Power and Technology Office, or APTO, part of the Air Force Research Laboratory, identified the KC-135 as a candidate for the modification in 2019, citing its horizontal wiper design and significant fuel use.

According to 2019 data from the Air Force Total Ownership Cost database, the KC-135 fleet consumed over 260 million gallons last year, accounting for almost 14% of total Air Force aviation fuel use.

“We’re partnering with the Southwest Research Institute, the Air National Guard and the Air Force Operational Energy office to validate the concept and determine actual efficiency gains,” said Ed Clark, APTO aviation program lead overseeing the initiative.

The team of researchers and aeronautical engineers employed a KC-135 from Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Ohio for comprehensive ground testing on the airframe. Using computational fluid dynamics, or CFD, they were able to model how air flows over the nose and windshield of the aircraft during flight, simulating both vertical and horizontal wiper positions.

The CFD models enabled the Rickenbacker team to visualize areas on the airframe that produce higher drag, (shown in red in the photo posted along with this story) and

identify potential efficiencies. According to the report, data showed a reduction in drag of 0.8% for re-positioning the blade vertically, and 0.2% for the slimmer wiper design.

“This is a significant milestone for us.

Over several months, we performed thousands of flight configurations during CFD testing to prove efficiency gains on the KC135,” Clark remarked. “Now, we’re ready to move on to airworthiness testing and certify its use with the (Federal Aviation Administration).”

The team plans to further refine the wiper design and layout over the coming months, with the next phase scheduled for summer 2020. They have also partnered with Delta Airlines, which plans to leverage some of the lessons learned on the KC-135 effort to assess the potential of utilizing vertical

REQUEST FOR COMMUNITY RESPONSE REGARDING ENVIRONMENTAL RESTORATION ACTIVITIES PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO The Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule #3 (UCMR 3) sampling results in public wells prompted additional sampling of private and municipal off-base drinking water wells near Peterson Air Force Base (AFB). Treatment systems have been installed at private and municipal wells used as drinking water sources. In addition, Peterson AFB conducted a Preliminary Assessment to identify any potential on base sources. Based on the results the Preliminary Assessment and follow on Site Investigations, it was confirmed that Peterson AFB had PFOS/PFOA impacts to groundwater. These recent Air Force Environmental Restoration Program (ERP) investigations have identified four sites that warrant further evaluation.

The Air Force’s ERP provides for the environmental cleanup of contamination whose release is attributable to the Air Force, including immediate actions taken to remove imminent threats to human health and the environment. Public involvement is a key aspect of the ERP and is the reason for this notice.

Peterson AFB is seeking public input on its ERP to enable meaningful community involvement and to address community needs, concerns, and expectations through face-to-face interviews, telephone interviews, and an online survey.
