Bleess was selected because of her work ethic and positive attitude, which has been described as “above and beyond.” Bleess’ white board notes include “Additional Duties,” areas Bleess looks to improve. Vietnamese citizen takes part in DOD, Air Force Academy international programs

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — An astronautical engineering major at the U.S. Air Force Academy said the school’s international programs strengthen relationships between the U.S. and its allies.

Cadet Xuan “An” Nguyen attends the Academy as the first cadet from Vietnam’s Ministry of National Defense to be enrolled in the Secretary of Defense FourYear International Cadet Program.

“The program brings different perspectives from different countries to the American cadets and gives the international cadets exposure to American culture,” he said.

The Four-Year International Cadet Program allows appointees from foreign nations to attend the Academy from basic cadet training through graduation.

An is the first Vietnamese citizen to be enrolled in the program and one of 60 international cadets from 30 different countries enrolled at the Air Force Academy.

“Two years at the Academy went by so fast,” he said. “I can see myself as a basic cadet like it happened yesterday.”

These days, An’s work revolves around his Astronautical Engineering curriculum and training freshman and sophomore cadets. He’ll be a flight noncommissioned Officer this summer, training the Academy’s latest crop of basic cadets.

Nyugen describes his cadet peers as “friendly, talented and smart.”

“I received a lot of help in both military and academics from cadets in my squad which made me assimilate more easily into the new environment,” he said. “Some of them show great interest in my culture and I am elated to show and explain it to them.”

An said he’s enthusiastic about his astronautics studies, motivated by a lifelong interest in exploring space.

“The main reason I chose astronautics is to go back to Vietnam and develop a space program,” he said. “For me, astronautics is not only an engineering field but a field of the future. Astronautics is the next step of development for human beings and I want to be part of it.”

An hopes to earn a post-graduate slot after graduation.

“I love my major, want to learn more about it and understand it on a higher, more insightful level.”

“The state of Colorado is pretty,” he said. “It’s completely different scenery from where I grew up, which is a mountainous area but more humid and green.

I enjoy going off base, especially getting Vietnamese food with my friends.”

Lt. Col. Christopher Kean, director of the Academy’s Office of International Programs said he’s excited to see An succeed at the Academy.

“I know he will continue to do amazing things in the space arena after he graduates,” Kean said. “His character and talent is indicative of the quality of all cadets participating in our international programs. As an Academy graduate myself, I am proud to be associated with a group of cadets who are proof of our strong relations with our partners. I look forward to seeing him walk across the graduation stage in 2024”

Bleess takes initiative in the 21st MDG

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. — U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Brandie Bleess, 21st Medical Group, family health technician, is the PetersonSchriever Garrison’s outstanding performer of the month for June 2022.

“I was so surprised because I’d just returned from leave — and, in my mind, I’m just trying to improve things here for us and our patients,” says Bleess, reflecting on being chosen for this recognition.

“I am extremely grateful, and although I’m being recognized for it, it’s because of a lot of different people, my team, that I’m being awarded.”

Bleess has been in the Air Force for just over three years, since February 2019, and she’s been stationed at Peterson Space Force Base for only six months, but is already making a big impression.

“Senior Airman Bleess shows up to work every day with the biggest smile on her face and a positive attitude,” says Bleess’s supervisor, Staff Sgt. Amber Lowery, 21st MDG, Family Health Clinic, aerospace medical technician.

“Bleess goes above and beyond to make sure everyone is taken care of. She gives 100% at work, always striving to find ways to improve processes within the clinic to better the services provided to our patients.”

Bleess is from Fairfield, California, just north of the Bay Area and southeast of Napa.

“I lived in Northern California my whole life prior to the Air Force,” says Bleess. “My parents raised me to work hard. At times, I wish they went a little easier — but looking back now, I’m glad they didn’t.”

She was going to school and working multiple jobs, but felt as though she was spinning her wheels. She decided to pursue the U.S. Air Force.

“I had three jobs at one point and remember thinking, ‘I can’t live like this.

I’m working so hard and still struggling

to pay rent,’” says Bleess. “I couldn’t imagine living the rest of my life like that.

I knew I was worth more. Joining the military is exactly what I needed to do.”

After completing her second tech. school at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, Bleess was stationed on the U.S. island territory of Guam in the Western Pacific, where she remained for two years before arriving at Peterson SFB. “In Guam, I made unforgettable friends — lifelong friends out there, and it really changed me for the better,” says Bleess. “I could go on for hours about things I loved in Guam. The food was great. There was so much to do there.

I went on tons of hikes. If you’re outdoorsy, there is always something to do on Guam.”

Now stationed at Peterson SFB since February, Bleess has been found to be a positive and profound addition to the 21st MDG. “In the last three months, Senior Airman Bleess has initiated a referral tracking process to recognize and track trends to help expedite care, and has also created trainings on different medical diagnosis to familiarize the technicians on both symptoms and medications associated with these diseases,” says Lowery. “By taking initiative, Bleess has decreased wait times and increased the skills and knowledge of our medics. As I mentioned, she is always striving to improve processes to better our services provided and maintain our training as medics.”

When asked what she appreciates most about the Air Force, Bleess quickly answers with, “The people, hands down.”

“You hear it every day; it’s what makes us the greatest force in the world. The people I’ve met have made me the woman I am today. The Air Force has helped me become more organized and improve my time-management. Essentially, it taught me the basics of how to be an adult. I am grateful for my experiences, but I’d like to reiterate that it’s because of the people I have been blessed to meet.”

Air Force Gaming season 3 launches with new competition format

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) — The Department of the Air Force Gaming League is back with a new format and a new league for family members and retirees.

The new format consists of three unique seasons – spring, summer and fall, expanding opportunities for more competitors to participate, said Capt. Oliver Parsons, Air Force Services Center Deputy Chief of DAF Fitness and Sports.

“Air Force Gaming has grown over the last three years and is now open to numerous groups across the Department of the Air Force,” Parsons said.

For two seasons, since it debuted, the inaugural DAF Gaming League has steadily added participants. More than 25,000 Total Force gamers participate, including active-duty Airmen and Guardians, the Guard and Reserve, as well as Defense Department civilians. The DAF Gaming League’s first Armed Forces esports championship takes place 28-29 May. With the success of the DAF League, and based on customer requests, AFSVC officials decided to expand the program by adding a second league, called the Minor League. The Minor League allows for gamers of all ages, including retirees and young family members.

“This is the first season we are allowing widespread participation,” Parsons said. “Anyone at an installation; any Air Force ROTC and U.S. Air Force Academy cadet, dependents ages 13 and over and any Civil Air Patrol and JROTC cadet can participate.”

The AFSVC launched the DAF Gaming League to support resiliency and retention efforts, said Col. Christopher Parrish, AFSVC commander.

“Air Force and Space Force Gaming is a 24/7 grassroots organization empowering our community to practice and compete to build camaraderie, leadership and connectedness throughout the season,” he said.

With the third season underway, the inaugural DAF Gaming League has steadily added participants. More than 25,000 Total Force gamers participate, to include active-duty Airmen and Guardians, the Guard and Reserve, as well as Defense Department civilians.

“I’ve always found my way back to gaming. It’s one of those things that gives me that social battery I need,” Collier said. “For some people, it’s just like going out with friends.”

If the growth of DAF Gaming every season is any indication, the demand for more egaming opportunities is strong.

“With over 86 percent of Airmen and Guardians between the ages of 18-34 identifying as gamers, the community has grown after two seasons,” said Maj. Aaron Tissot, AFSVC DAF Fitness and Sports Division chief. “With the format changes this season, we will certainly build on the more than 25,000 men and women we’ve connected through gaming.”

DAF Gaming League will be part of the inaugural

FORCECON22 event hosted by Port San Antonio and ASM Global at the new Tech Port Center + Arena over Memorial Day weekend, May 28-29. During the event, three live esports competitions are planned over the weekend with the Armed Forces Sports Championship, featuring Halo: Infinite, on May 28, and the $10K Halo Showdown and Air Force Gaming Minor League Championships on May 29. U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin III said newly commissioned officers graduating from the U.S. Air Force Academy May 25 will bring their dedication to service and innovation to the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force.

Austin gave the commencement speech for the Class of 2022 at the school’s graduation ceremony in Falcon Stadium, speaking to 973 graduates, faculty, staff and thousands of friends and relatives.

The Secretary of Defense encouraged the graduates to promote democracy, provide for the security of the U.S. and strive for innovation throughout their military careers.

“Innovation is the ballgame of the 21st century and countries either lead or get left behind,” he said. “As the Defense Department weaves together our concepts and capabilities in new and networked ways, we’re going to call on you.”

Austin said the Class of 2022 serves in an era of complex geopolitical movements but proved its dedication by overcoming the Academy’s academic, military and physical challenges during the coronavirus pandemic and other tests and trials.

“In just four years, you’ve seen more changes than many see in a lifetime,” he said. “A pandemic reminded us that some of this century’s biggest threats don’t even notice borders. America’s longest war – one that spanned nearly all of your lifetimes – came to an end and Russia’s cruel and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine dragged Europe into the largest security crisis since World War II. “Graduating from this Academy is hard enough without a global pandemic, and graduating after years clouded by COVID shows serious courage and behavior,” Austin said. “But what counts is how you respond to hard times and I’m told that during locksfspaceorbital.com

Specifically referring to Russia, the Secretary of Defense said “America’s adversaries are testing the values cadets have sworn to defend.”

“Putin’s war of choice is an aff ront to the rules-based international order and a challenge to free people everywhere,” he said. “The world has been inspired by the bravery of the Ukrainian people and I know you have as well.”

Frank Kendall, Secretary of the Air Force, spoke at the ceremony before Austin, calling Russia an “acute threat” and China a “strategic, well-resourced threat.”

“You are graduating during an inflection point in our history,” he said.

Austin said the Class of 2022 has a direct role in promoting the international partnerships and teamwork that can quell threats from hostile nations. These partnerships, he said, “are central to our strength.”

“The power of partnerships helped us rush aid to let Ukraine defend itself,” he said.

“In the Indo-Pacific, it’s helping us counter aggressive behavior from the People’s Republic of China, which our new National Defense Strategy calls the ‘pacing challenge’ for the U.S. military. You’ll see the power of teamwork as Airmen, Guardians and warfighters.”

Austin said he expects the graduates to be positive examples to all they come across during their military careers.

“You don’t get bogged down in ugliness or division,” he said. “You’re always chasing new horizons. You move faster, see further and fly higher. All of you have answered your country’s call with courage and commitment, with tenacity and teamwork, and with strength and sacrifice. With outstanding young leaders like the Class of 2022, the future of our country is bright.”

WASHINGTON — The Secretary of Defense has prioritized eliminating sexual assault in the armed forces and taking care of victims. Across the Defense Department, its sexual assault response coordinators and members of military communities who ensure the secretary’s goals are met.

Last week, the department recognized the best of those individuals as recipients of the Liz Blanc Exceptional SARC of the Year Award and the Promoting Excellence in Prevention Award.

The annual awards ceremony, this year held May 17 at the Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia, emphasized the importance of sexual assault prevention and response across the department, and also recognized the dedicated individuals who provide critical victim care and support as well as those working toward a prevention-focused community.

Since 2009, the department has annually recognized one SARC from each military service and within the National Guard for the Liz Blanc Exceptional SARC of the Year Award. The award recognizes innovative achievements contributing to unique and exceptional victim response within the military community.

Dr. Nathan Galbreath, the acting director for DOD’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office, highlighted the importance of the award and echoed his appreciation for SARCs who take on these challenging roles.

“Having the opportunity to recognize these silent warriors for their work in supporting service members is a true honor,” Galbreath said. “Fostering a support system that meets the needs of all victims is challenging. It takes constant Peterson Space Force Base

attention, hard work and focus. Everyone who will receive this award is an example of that hard work; they know the true meaning of taking care of our own.”

The role of the SARC is important, Galbreath said, because SARCs serve as the single point of contact for integrating and institutionalizing sexual assault victim care in the field, from the In order to certify that SARCs are trained and armed with the tools they need to provide comprehensive victim care and support, SARCs from across the Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, Space Force, National Guard and Coast Guard receive training and certification in victim-centered care through the DOD Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program.

Preventing a sexual assault from occurring in the first place is also a department priority. Towards this, the department has increased its focus and effort on preventing sexual assault through ongoing initiatives including releasing the Prevention Plan of Action, publishing an integrated violence-prevention policy and establishing a prevention community of practice which features the first-ever prevention workforce.

Recipients of this year’s awards represent the thousands of service members and civilians dedicated to sexual assault prevention and response across the department, said Dr. Andra Tharp, the senior prevention advisor for the department’s Office of Force Resiliency and SAPRO. “The efforts made by this year’s recipients, support the work being done by the department to reduce and stop sexual assault in the military community,” said Tharp. “Their work is critical to creating and sustaining an environment of dignity, respect, inclusiveness, and connectedness to advance readiness and warfighting capability.”

Mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, may interfere with your life and overall physical health. You can have symptoms that are mild and brief or more serious and persistent.

According to Dr. Krystyna Bienia, clinical psychologist and senior policy analyst at the Defense Health Agency, mental health disorders are treatable, and recovery is possible.

“TRICARE beneficiaries are urged to seek help as soon as they can when they notice something doesn’t feel right, or symptoms begin to present themselves,” Dr. Bienia said. “Early intervention is key, but help at any point is best. It’s okay to not be okay.

But be sure to ask for help.”

PETERSON SPACE FORCE BASE, Colo. — U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Daisy Salas Williamson, 21st Medical Group first sergeant, is a second-generation American of Filipino and Chamorro decent who deeply appreciates the celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, observed each May. A joint resolution was signed by President Carter in 1978 to proclaim an annual week-long celebration of Asian and Pacific Islanders in America. In 1990, President George H.W. Bush, signed a bill passed by Congress to extend the observed week into a full month.

“Any month in which we celebrate culture is important. For me, this month is personal because I can contribute to educating folks on where we, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, come from,” said Williamson. “We get one month to do it, so why not share it? We bring all these different cultures together with the expectation to execute the mission. It’s important we share our story and culture so others understand, then we can better work together and execute the mission together.”

Williamson and her sister, Bernadette Salas Stroklund, spoke about their lineage in Guam and explained how the island’s name originated.

“When Sailors came to Guam, the Chamorros ran out to sell fruit saying ‘Guahan,’ which means ‘I have’,” said Stroklund, retired U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class. “We give what we have. It’s our way of welcoming you. When we invite you into our homes, we will cook you a feast and celebrate with music and dance. Our culture runs deep in our veins, and it bleeds into everything we touch. Both of our heritages, Filipino and Chamorro, are known for a strong respect of our elders, generosity and hospitality.”

“First sergeant Williamson is awesome. As soon as I found out that she’s from Guam, I was freaking out,” said U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Brandie Bleess, 21st MDG family health technician. “Our first sergeant works right alongside our commander — and as for the Airmen’s needs, she really takes care of us.”

Bleess was stationed in Guam for two years prior to being stationed at Peterson SFB — and has been selected as the June 2022 Outstanding Performer of the Month for Space Base Delta 1.

“She has talents that very few both possess and balance with such grace: a true caring heart, a strong desire to help our Airmen and an unmatched dedication to service,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jeff rey Vicars, 21st MDG senior enlisted leader. “Williamson is the true definition of a servant leader, tirelessly putting our personnel before herself. “It’s comforting that she’s is watching out for, and over, our medics. It’s truly a pleasure to serve next to her. I could talk for days about the awesome things she does for us.”

Retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Jason France, who Williamson has known for 15 years and considers her a mentor, also praises the 21st MDG first sergeant: “I served with [Williamson] for three years in an organization with an extremely high-operation tempo, and I had the privilege of deploying with her twice to Iraq. I’ve watched her grow through the ranks. Her leadership and passion for taking care of Airmen and families has been remarkable throughout her journey.

Additionally, the example she sets as a military mother is incredible — she continues to inspire others to overcome the challenges that serving our nation can present a family.”

They made their own clothes and shoes. With that upbringing, they in-turn instilled a strong work ethic in their children.

Like her father, Williamson also earned her Jump Wings from the U.S. Army Airborne School.

Williamson’s father was a Paratrooper in the U.S. Army, so joining the service and attending Jump School was fitting for someone who values heritage.

Williamson graduated from the course in 2008 from Ft. Benning, Ga., and later was afforded the opportunity to attend Jumpmaster School and worked with over 14 different countries in that capacity.

“I learned how to lead, follow and value relationships in the Airborne community, which has bled into who I am today,” said Williamson.

“All those years jumping has shown me that pain is weakness leaving the body, both mentally and physically — these life lessons taught me how to value self-care and to help others when they need to take a knee or help carrying a load,” said Williamson. “Most of all, I learned that your brothers and sisters-in-arms do not always have to speak the same language, look the same or even wear the same uniform.”

Now, the first sergeant exemplifies those virtues amongst the personnel that make up the 21st MDG. “[Williamson] is our heritage and culture,” stressed Stroklund, her sister. “She exemplifies a warrior and portrays the best of our culture in everything. She’s committed to excellence, driven by passion and has a devotion to family. She has worked hard to succeed in her service to the Air Force and proudly represents the Asian American Pacific Islanders. My che’lu (sister), I’m so proud of her.”

“Guahan” is a word of generosity, and Williamson has passion, wisdom and work ethic to generously give to not only the 21st MDG, but also the SBD 1, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Space Force and her country.

Patrick SFB hosts DAF Gaming Championships

PATRICK SPACE FORCE BASE, Fla. — Patrick Space Force Base hosted the Department of the Air Force Gaming League Halo Infinite championships at its new gaming center, The Launch Pad, May 21 - 22.

The top teams from the spring season of the DAF Gaming League competed for a chance to represent the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Space Force at FORCECON 2022, the Armed Forces Sports Halo Championship, and the first ever U.S. government E-Sports event.

U.S. Space Force Brig. Gen. Stephen Purdy, Space Launch Delta 45 Commander and Program Executive Officer, Assured Access to Space, said this was an amazing way to kick off the opening of Patrick SFB’s brand new gaming center, The Launch Pad. “Having the gaming center is a huge benefit to Guardians and Airmen,” said Purdy. “Gaming teaches concepts like leadership, teamwork, cooperation, strategy, and critical thinking. The Launch Pad is an opportunity to foster that kind of environment and bring all of our members together.”

In the week leading up to the competition, the gaming teams got a unique opportunity to tour Cape Canaveral Space Force station and Patrick SFB. On their tour, they were able to watch the launch of United Launch Alliance’s Atlas V Starliner OFT-2 and even see F-22 Raptors from the F-22 demo team on Patrick SFB’s flight line.

“We got a chance to take all 8 teams and tour them around Patrick SFB and Cape Canaveral SFS,” said Purdy. “In an amazing bit of luck, we had F-22’s on base, and we had a space launch in the same week.”

U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Mike Sullivan, DAF Gaming League event coordinator, said he was honored to have the first ever Armed Forces E-Sports event held at Patrick SFB. “The new gaming center is fantastic,” said Sullivan. “It was a perfect place to host this event and we were honored to be able to kick off the opening of The Launch Pad.” Out of the 8 teams that competed at Patrick SFB, two will move on to compete in

San Antonio, Texas, May 28 against service members from across the Department of Defense to see who will be crowned the Armed Forces Halo Champions. The competition will be broadcast live on the U.S. Armed Forces Sports Youtube channel.

“Gaming is bringing us all together,” said Master Sgt. Mike Sullivan, DAF Gaming Event Coordinator. “Instead of just going home and playing with my friends, now there’s an environment and a culture that is being built where I can go play with my co-workers or even supervisors and really bring the force together in the digital realm.”

Biden Says U.S. has ‘sacred obligation to fallen service members

WASHINGTON — “I’ve often said that, as a nation, we have many obligations,” Biden said today during a Memorial Day commemoration at Arlington National Cemetery. “The only one that is truly sacred, the only truly sacred obligation we have is to prepare and equip those women and men we send into harm’s way and care for them and their families when they return home ... and when they don’t.”

That obligation, Biden said, is one that unites all Americans.

“It brings us together to make sure that the women and men who are willing to lay down their lives for us get the very best from us in return,” he said.

The president said one effort underway now to live up to that obligation involves legislation moving through Congress that will deliver health care services and benefits to veterans and the survivors impacted by toxic exposure to things such as burn pits.

Use sound risk management in all your summer activities to help mitigate mishaps. Get proper training to build your skillsets before you participate..

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas (AFNS) — Summer starts soon, bringing warmer weather and longer days. Many families are beginning to plan outdoor activities like swimming, boating, camping and road trips. As such, Airmen and their families need to use risk management in all summer activities to help mitigate mishaps.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, every year in the U.S. an estimated 3,960 fatal unintentional drownings occur, with children ages 1-4 having the highest drowning rates. In fiscal year 2021, the Department of the Air Force lost seven members to drowning.

Could these deaths have been avoided? Were risks assessed and life jackets considered? Asking the right question and assessing risks is key to staying safe.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, in 2020, there were 5,265 recreational boating accidents resulting in 767 deaths and 3,191 injuries. Where the cause of death was known, 75 percent of fatal boating accident victims drowned, and of those drowning victims, 86 percent were not wearing a life jacket.

Being in, on, or around the water can be dangerous.

Know your limitations and have everyone on the water wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. To build skills, stay physically fit and considering signing up for swim lessons.

“Every Airmen and Guardian needs the proper training before participating in summer activities. It is important that we remain aware and assess the risks of each activity we participate in,” said William Walkowiak, chief of Occupational Safety for the Department of the Air Force, “Be responsible and weigh the risks to stay safe this summer.”

The U. S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed that 38,824 lives were lost in traffic crashes nationwide in 2020. That number marks the highest number of fatalities since 2007. Reducing risk is as simple as planning before you head out and sharing that plan with family or friends, checking the weather, and mapping out your trip to avoid construction or storms.

The National Safety Council’s Injury Facts listed 5,579 motorcycle deaths in 2020. The factor that directly influenced motorcycle fatality trends is helmet use. Motorcycle helmets are estimated to be 37 percent effective in preventing fatal injuries to operators and 41 percent for passengers.

The U.S. Air Force lost 18 motorcycle riders and 14 members in motor vehicle accidents in fiscal year 2021.

Inexperience, alcohol, and speed were often the root causes. Motorcycle riders and drivers must never drink and drive. Motorcycle riders must commit to practicing riding skills every time they ride by wearing the proper protective gear and thinking beyond the ride. Vehicle drivers should never drive distracted, always wear a seat belt, and follow all traffic laws.

The Air Force Safety Center launched in spring the Preseason Kickoff of the DAFRider page and DAFRider motorcycle video series. It gives riders another way to

learn about current standards and techniques, acquire skills, and helps build a rider mentality. The series will run throughout the year with new videos highlighting a multitude of motorcycle topics.

“Wearing a motorcycle airbag jacket or vest along with a Department of Transportation-approved helmet can potentially eliminate injuries or even death,” said Dave Brandt, the Department of the Air Force, Motorcycle Safety Program manager. “Having a rider’s mentality and practicing every time you ride can help build riding skills for when you need them – and you will definitely need them if you continue to ride.”

Kirtland Air Force Base will be the first base to receive motorcycle airbag vests to utilize during classes and demonstrate how they can help reduce or mitigate blunt force trauma. Just like airbags in a vehicle, motorcycle airbags have been proven to save lives and help keep motorcycle riders from serious injuries or death by using a variety of on-board airbags that detect a crash in real time or a tethered system that deploys after the rider has fallen off a moving motorcycle.

Camping can also be a great break during the summer months, but remember to always prepare for the unexpected by checking the weather, following all local laws on fire hazards and wildlife, and telling family or friends your plans, and never leave food or trash where animals can get it.

Regardless of activity, one can easily become dehydrated or sunburned while out enjoying the summer sun.

Make sure to hydrate often and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF15.

“I’m asking each of you to use sound risk management this summer to help minimize risks” Walkowiak said.

“Ask yourself, ‘Do I have the right skills, or do I need to take a refresher course? Do I have the right equipment for the activity to make sure I get back safely?’ Asking yourself these and other questions might just save your life or the life of someone you love.”

UPDATED PEDIATRIC COVID-19 VACCINE GUIDANCE At this time, the 21st Medical Group is unable to provide COVID-19 boosters for dependents under the age of 18. Use an off-base facility with Tricare support until booster shots can be offered back on the installation.

COVID-19 VACCINE APPOINTMENTS

NOW: Pfizer BioNTech COVID-19 shots are only being administered to active duty members, at this time.

What: All COVID-19 shots are available by appointment.

Who: Any individual who has completed a COVID-19 series and appropriate waiting

time may receive a booster.

How: Patients may book an appointment through https://informatics-stage.health.mil/ COVAX/ Where: Peterson SFB Main Clinic (559 Vincent Street) Details: Individuals may receive the vaccine booster if: 1. Have completed a COVID-19 vaccine series, i.e. two doses of Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech; or one dose of the Janssen J&J vaccine.

2. Been at least 6 months after the final Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech dose; or at least two months after the Janssen J&J single dose.
