Hiawatha Gardens Task Force will release draft plan Community responses received through the two public meetings in March have driven design priorities for the Hiawatha Gardens project.

To help the Manitou Springs community clear their property of tree branches and debris from fire mitigation, the city will host an opportunity for wood disposal. It will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Public Works Facility, 101 Banks Place. The last load will be accepted at 3:30 p.m.

Manitou Springs Pool receives grant from state

The city is excited to announce that the Colorado Department of Local Affairs, in collaboration with the Office of Economic Development and International Trade, has awarded the Manitou Springs Pool and Fitness Center a $10,000 grant through their 2022 Pools Special Initiative.

This grant will enable pool management to recruit more lifeguards, expand hours and reward the current staff for their phenomenal work. The city would like to thank the State of Colorado for the opportunity, which will benefit center patrons and the entire community.

Heat, drought lead to Level 1 water restrictions

Manitou Springs is experiencing low levels of precipitation as well as high levels of heat.

The best solution is a community-wide approach toward decreasing the amount of water used.

Manitou moved to Level 1 water restrictions on Friday, June 17. It is extremely important that all residents follow these restrictions to help conserve our most precious resource.

They are: • Even-numbered properties can water Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; • Odd-numbered properties can water Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays; and • Maximum of two hours per day, 5-8 a.m. or 7-10 p.m.

Violators are subject to a minimum fine of $100, per Municipal Code 13.28.030.

The Hiawatha Gardens Task Force, comprised of city staff and community volunteers, is coordinating the project’s development and is working with BVH Architects on the design. City launches survey about Hazard Mitigation Plan

The city of Manitou Springs is updating the Hazard Mitigation, which analyzes the city’s vulnerabilities to natural and human-caused hazards. It also identifies mitigation actions that can minimize property damage and reduce the loss of life by lessening the impacts of disasters.

The survey will collect information to better understand Manitou’s vulnerabilities, as well as solicit input on needs to best mitigate, or reduce, the impacts of hazards before they occur.

The survey has five questions, takes less than five minutes to complete and is open until July 11, 2022. It’s available at bit.ly/MSHMP Survey.

Slow the Flow program will evaluate sprinkler systems

The city of Manitou Springs has partnered with Resource Central to offer free Slow the Flow sprinkler audits.

During the 75-minute evaluations, trained professionals will go on-site to do a complete visual inspection of your system. They will identify problem areas as well as perform tests on your system to help you create the most efficient schedule for your yard.

The audits show that 99 percent of the sprinkler systems evaluated are inefficient. That not only leads to a higher water bill, but also wastes Manitou’s most precious resource: water.

This is a great program to give residents a chance to improve their irrigation system and become more #waterwise. It is intended for residential properties only.

What’s happening with Manitou Springs’ fire hydrants Courtesy of the Manitou Springs Public Works Water/Sewer Division Did you know that fire hydrants can produce up to 500 gallons of water per minute? These are no simple mechanisms, and it’s extremely important that our hydrant system is regularly maintained.

Currently, we have a contractor performing hydrant flushing for all of our approximately 240 fire hydrants.

If you haven’t already, please expect a door tag at some point this summer alerting you that you may see running water down the roadway and slightly discolored water during the process. To experience as minimal an impact as possible, do not run water in your home while hydrant flushing is taking place near you.

We perform hydrant flushing two times per year, once in the fall and once in the spring. Due to our current water restrictions, we are completing these flushes more slowly to reduce the impact to our water table. You can expect to see the hydrant flushing crews out again this October and November.

Hydrant flushing, contrary to popular opinion, is not to maintain the hydrant, but is actually for the quality of our water and our water system. In some areas where water usage is low, hydrant flushing creates needed movement to clear the system of sediment and to stabilize the water’s pH levels.

This clearing of sediment is why the water is brown when initially coming out of the hydrant, but after a few minutes of flushing is crystal clear.

Hydrant maintenance, which includes an inspection of the inner mechanisms, regreasing and pressure tests, helps to find issues with the hydrant. Think of fire hydrants as cars: They run best when you take care of them, make the necessary repairs and perform regular maintenance.

These maintenance tests not only keep our hydrant systems healthy, but it alerts us of issues that we need to address to keep high levels of water flow.

In 2021, we tested the city’s hydrants and found 14 with issues that needed to be addressed — and two of those needed to be replaced. The contractor performing the work has completed 11 of these repairs/replacements and is awaiting parts for the final three repairs.

As with everything since COVID-19 hit, delivery of these parts has been delayed. Given the age of our historic town, we have many makes and models of fire hydrants, some of which are easier to purchase parts for than others.

But please note: Our Fire Department is very aware of the three hydrants that are low-flow, what hydrants are high-performing and what hydrants are not currently working. Before every fire-related call, the fire department ensures they are aware of the closest three hydrants and the condition of each.

Since about 99 percent of our fire hydrants are functioning well, every Manitou Springs home has complete fire hydrant coverage in case of a structure fire. Regardless, repairing the remaining three hydrants is an important priority that we take extremely seriously, as it’s our job to ensure the fire department has high-performing hydrants that help them do their job.

Moving forward, you can expect to see fire hydrant flushing continue to take place twice per year, and fire hydrant testing to take place once every five years — this is the recommended practice from the Nation Fire Protection Association.

Mile High Youth Corps seeking environmental stewards Applications are open for Mile High Youth Corps’ Land Conservation Fall Trail or Forestry Program. MHYC is searching for positive, hardworking people aged 18 to 24 to spend 10-13 weeks this fall serving on environmental stewardship projects throughout Colorado.

During their season, crews will complete more than 30 conservation projects spanning 23 counties and make profound impacts on the community, the environment and themselves.

Youth participants, called corpsmembers, are assigned to a crew that works on conservation-focused projects on public lands. These include construction and maintenance of recreational and safety access trails, habitat restoration, fire fuel mitigation, historical preservation and park development projects.

Corpsmembers earn a bi-weekly stipend and are enrolled in AmeriCorps,

earning a scholarship to be used to advance their learning after the program.

They also receive up to four free mental health counseling sessions.

Participants can network with federal, state and local natural resource professionals and receive industry-recognized certifications. They will receive training in skills including chainsaw operation, trail building and maintenance, and pesticide application. No experience is necessary.

Project partners scheduled for fall include: Manitou Springs; Green Mountain Falls; Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument; Cheyenne Mountain State Park; Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services; Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety; Colorado Open Lands; U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service; and U.S. Forest Service Pikes Peak Ranger District.

Letters to the Editor City is neglecting preparations for climate resiliency

To the editor: Recalling the summer of 2012, residents of Manitou Springs experienced the worst wildfire in recent history. I’ve lived in Manitou for 34 years and cannot remember another event when the city was completely evacuated.

A year after the Waldo Canyon Fire, the burn scar caused significant flooding to the north side of town out of the Williams Canyon watershed.

I photographed the aftermath of the largest of a series of 2013 floods that caused considerable damage to the town. Although some steps were taken after the events to mitigate future impacts caused by flooding, in retrospect, I believe more should be done to ensure Manitou’s future climate resiliency.

I put together a web application best viewed on a desktop, laptop or tablet that tells the story of the 2013 Williams Canyon flood. We have 100 square miles of area above Manitou that drains through our town, and this story of just 2.71 of those square miles reminds us how vulnerable we are to climate change. Colorado Springs has put $20 million into a regional wildfire mitigation and prevention program. I sent a letter to all Manitou Springs councilors and city staff leadership on May 5, 2022, hoping to inspire them to make climate resiliency one of our city’s highest priorities.

The only response has been some discussion with Mayor Pro Tem John Shada, who expressed concerns regarding wildfire vulnerability. The first reading of Ordinance No. 1822, amending the 2022 budget for fiscal year 2022 to the tune of $2.6 million-plus, was on City Council’s agenda last week. Not one penny is budgeted for climate resiliency.

Evidently, I’m living on a different planet.

Volunteers are needed to help remove trash from abandoned illegal camps. The clean-up starts at 9 a.m.

Saturday, July 9; volunteers should meet on foot at the Black Canyon/ Garden Drive intersection. The camps are about a 30-minute hike from there.

Help with TerrainHopper services, brighten someone’s day El Paso County’s Community Services Department, with support from The Independence Center, recently purchased two off-road TerrainHoppers for community members with physical limitations. Starting this month, the off-road electric wheelchairs will create opportunities to experience nature in new ways.

As part of this program, the county’s nature centers will train volunteers to accompany participants along trails in the TerrainHopper vehicles, accessing trails and natural resources they may not have previously experienced.

TerrainHopper reservations will be

offered mornings and afternoons July 26-Oct. 29. Bear Creek Nature Center reservations are for Thursdays and Saturdays and Fountain Creek Nature Center reservations are for Fridays and Saturdays.

lthough many treat travel as an adventure to explore a new location or escape everyday life, travel can be used to expand your personal views, learn new life skills, meet new people and try being pushed out of your comfort zone.

Throughout my travels, I’ve used every city I have explored as a new way to broaden my horizons. Whether trying new foods, learning small words or phrases of a country’s native language or meeting new people, it has allowed me to experience the culture hands-on, something a television program or book could never do justice to.

Interacting with people who differ from those you usually interact with can broaden your cultural perspectives.

For example, seeing how people differ from you, both in beliefs and cultural differences, can provide a new perspective that you would not have in everyday life. This perspective can be implemented into your daily life; maybe it adds a new perspective on how fortunate you are or what you take for granted. It can also teach you skills to adapt into your everyday life.

These interactions with new people while traveling can create life-long friendships. Having friends worldwide is one of the extraordinary opportunities that travel provides you.

In Portugal, my mom and I made new friends while doing a bike tour around Porto. This friendship brought us new companions to share dinner with and sightsee around the city.

Meeting up with people can also provide a tool to pick their brains on places they have visited.

Maybe they saw a fantastic monument or museum that you must visit, or possibly they can help you steer clear of a popular tourist trap.

Although these friendships can be made stateside, it is even more remarkable when they are

While traveling, you can dive deeper into other cultures.

created in a new foreign country, with a large diversity of people.

Everyone has learned some knowledge about famous monuments and people, but when you experience these historical creations with your own eyes, it ultimately provides an invaluable insight into history. Seeing the “Mona Lisa,” Michelango’s “David,” the Eiffel Tower or the beaches of Normandy can create a new understanding of history outside the realm of a classroom, textbook or online article.

When a traveler gets to experience these riches of history, it opens up understanding and appreciation for past times.

Many people, including myself, get caught up in the comforts of familiar locations and activities, although traveling offers a unique opportunity to be pushed out of those comfort zones.

While traveling, you can dive deeper into other cultures, trying new unique dishes like steak tartare in France or francesinha in Portugal. Ultimately, these experiences give you a more rounded cultural exposure to worldly things.

You can take these sophisticated experiences with you to look back on and reflect on, or share with other people, helping expand your knowledge of different cultures as well.

Finally, it’s important to put your prejudices aside while traveling. Although different countries may do things that are polar opposites to what you are accustomed to, it does not make their way wrong, but rather different.

Like anything a person does, it takes time for them to be comfortable with it. So, try new dishes, experience new things, travel back in time through monuments and museums, and have a safe and enjoyable time. Get out, travel and explore!

After some time with Anderson in the kitchen and seeing him in action, it was time to try the food. Considering it was around noon, it felt appropriate to try the sandwiches while taking in the views from an outdoor table.

Despite a lunch rush, my order took just less than 13 minutes to arrive at the table.

The first sandwich on the chopping block is the Manitou Gobbler: thinly sliced, in-house roasted turkey breast, bacon, provolone cheese and candied jalapeño cranberry sauce on house-made bread.

Although fairly simple in nature, diners will remember a time they created their own turkey sandwich utilizing Thanksgiving leftovers. This sandwich, however, is made to order and not the least bit dry. I would recommend picking up a salt shaker as the sandwich can run a singular note by the second half.

The second sandwich that’s worth the catch is the Rainbow Falls cold sandwich. This reminded me of what would be a shrimp salad on bread, simply put. It’s Gulf shrimp, pickled carrots, lettuce, avocado, crispy wonton strips and sesame-ginger dressing on a house-made hoagie roll.

This might need to be tweaked as it was a bit difficult to eat, considering how the vegetables were cut. I had a secondary salad on my plate from what fell out of the hoagie roll. But the vegetables were well-prepared and vibrant, and the sesame-ginger dressing paired well with the pickled carrots to create a unique profile.

I washed down both sandwiches with an orange-apple juice Blackshear had pressed to order, which was simple and well-done.

Overall, between the staff and the food, I can confidently give this establishment 4 out of 5 knives. It’s well worth a visit, and Anderson and Blackshear can make the appropriate adjustments where necessary.

ersephone Grae’s Café & Juice Bar, named after the executive chef’s daughter, opened in early June. The reviews are few so far, but the common message is portrayed loud and clear — something special is happening here.

Located in the Barker House, the café boasts a — Lyman Anderson decently diverse menu of common comfort food that ranges from biscuits and gravy or French toast to the popular hot turkey sandwich. The juice bar can satiate any customer with a selection from the smoothie or fresh-pressed juice selection made at the front counter right outside the kitchen.

Two people staff the café, which may sound drastically understaffed.

But the reasoning is simple: “We are just not big enough, yet, to pay for three guys,” Executive Chef Lyman Anderson said. (Editor’s note: The chef and the reporter are not related.)

He utilizes his 23 years of experience, so the kitchen is well in order to pump out multiple orders of food (from 28 menu items) in a short time, just as long as his front-of-house man, Eli Blackshear, can keep up.

As any restaurant owner would agree, when new restaurants open there’s a crucial period of adjusting and perfecting the menu. This can be replacing specific ingredients or adjusting how a dish is prepared.

Sometimes, even, it may be that a particular dish simply does not work the way it was envisioned and needs to be adjusted completely.

That does require a particular degree of patience; Anderson said he is The Manitou Gobbler “trying to bring real food back to Manitou Springs” and sourcing what he will remind diners of Thanksgiving can locally to bring real smiles to his tables. leftovers, but better.

he fun never stops at the Manitou Springs Heritage Center and Museum. In July, the museum will present the Pikes Peak Peanut Pusher — Live from Barr Trail and its exhibit, “The Pikes Peak Peanut Pusher.”

During its recorded history, Pikes Peak has inspired tests of courage and willpower. And now, Colorado Springs resident Bob Salem will attempt to push a peanut up Barr Trail to the summit of America’s Mountain.

The feat has been accomplished only three times during Manitou Springs’ 150-year history. The live event, scheduled to start at 9 a.m.

Saturday, July 9, will begin at the Barr Trail trailhead (near the corner of 540 Ruxton Ave.) and feature entertainment with the Thursday Drum Circle.

Meet the Peanut Pusher and cheer him on to the top of Pikes Peak. Due to limited parking at the trailhead, please consider parking in downtown Manitou Springs and take Manitou Incline Shuttle No. 33 to the event.

The first Peanut Pusher, Bill Williams of Texas, accepted a $50 bet in 1929 that he would not be able to push a peanut to the top of Pikes Peak using only his nose. On May 19, he started what would become an ordeal and Bob Salem practices pushing a peanut up Barr Trail in June. a national sensation at the base of the mountain on the Pikes Peak Highway.

Q: Is “Merriments and Mystery” a comedy or a drama?

A: It’s most definitely a comedy. At least we hope it is. We’ve been bawling with laughter at rehearsals. If this is a drama, that sure would be awkward.

Q: Who is the main character?

A: Everything revolves around our main character, Lucy, a hilariously hyperactive

fifth-grader from Manitou Elementary who had 15 weeks … to finish a report on Manitou’s last 150 years and who instead waited till the night before it was due, spending an entire hour and 15 minutes on the report instead. She got a solid B-plus.

The entire performance is actually a retelling of this infamous report, along with all the excuses she had for waiting till the last minute.

Feedback needed on designs for Iggy Igloo memorial mural Iggy Igloo, a beloved member of the Manitou Springs community, died June 1, 2021, but he is not forgotten. He’ll be memorialized with a mural in Memorial Park, on a retaining wall running along Fountain Creek.

The organizers, Conor Bourgal, Steffany Butts-Boucher, Amanda Lee, Marisa Madge (Cutlip) and K8e Orr, worked with the Manitou Springs Parks & Recreation Board to select the location.

They are collaborating with the Manitou Art Center and Creative Alliance Manitou Springs on the project.

The deadline is fast approaching for local artists and arts-focused nonprofits and businesses to apply for the new Arts Vision Grants program. Applications are due Friday, July 8.

The grants supply $50,000 in funding for creative projects that bring to life the declarations and opportunities in Arts Vision 2030 (www.culturaloffice.org/artsvision2030), the 10-year cultural plan for the Pikes Peak region. The grants are supported by the Pikes Peak Fund for the Arts at the Pikes Peak Community Foundation and managed by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region.

“The buzz is growing and we’re excited to see bold applications from

our local creative community,” said Andy Vick, COPPeR’s executive director.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to support new and expanded creative projects, all to advance the priorities in our region’s cultural plan.”

This is an organic, curved counterpoint to contemporary architecture. The Oregon-based artist suggests that the white finish draws the eye to her hopeful joyous dance.

This interactive, kinetic sculpture allows sunbeams to pour through the colored lens as the viewer swivels the rings into position to catch the light, casting a stained glass effect on its surroundings.

An artist based in Lafayette, Fields is inspired by the fascinating carvings found in pre-Columbian Mayan ceramics and stonework, and the free-spirited abstract design of Henri Matisse’s paper cutouts.

The subject of his talk will be “The Broken Hear t of William Bell.” Dr. Archer has been an historical speaker in past years and attributes his interest in Manitou Springs’ history to his relocation here 13 years ago. He is a retired English professor from Whitwor th College in Spokane, Wash. His lecture is free and open to the public.

City Finance Director Mike Leslie reported to City Council at Tuesday’s work session that there was approximately $32,000 available for implementing changes in the zoning code and related public processes for 2005.

The recommendations submitted by consultant HB&A were itemized and came with the cost of each item included. HB&A will be contracted to perform the work of revising the code and establishing revised processes so the recommendations also served as a de facto bid on each item even though the firm’s involvement to date eliminates the requirement for a new bidding process.

The 12 items on the HB&A list total nearly $91,000.

HB&A also indicated several, mostly procedural changes, that can contribute to a more efficient and less contentious process that can be implemented in-house at no cost.

Operating within the $32,000 available this year, council identified the creation of approval criteria for each zoning category, including downtown, projected to cost $20,000; revising and updating the public process, projected to cost $9,100; reevaluating the setback requirements in the general residential zone, which consumes as much as one-third of planning staff’s time, projected to cost $5,000 and adopting and implementing the National Fire Prevention Association’s standard 299 at a projected cost of $3,600.

The NFPA standard would provide clear-cut guidelines, especially for construction on upslopes, where none exist now and thereby eliminate considerable negotiation,

reports, hearings and general misunderstanding and arguments.

Representatives of HB&A, City Council and members of city staff will now meet to finalize costs.

At press time, it was not anticipated that further formalize action would be necessary to start the zoning and planning revision process as outlined Tuesday.

Council nears administrator choice

Following Monday’s open house with finalists for the City Administrator position and a closed executive session Tuesday to review the candidates and the interview process that took place Monday, City Council appears to be embarking on final discussions with one or more candidates. Details from council executive sessions are, by law, not made public The four finalists are Elizabeth Black, District Manager for the Copper Mountain Consolidated Metropolitan District in Colorado; David Blanchard, City Manager of Blackhawk, Colo., from 2000 to 2003; Catherine Green, Director of Planning for the City of Pueblo from 1992 to 2004; and, Rick Sonnenburg, Town Manager of Monument.

Bentley Henderson, Assistant Town Manager of Carbondale, Colo., withdrew from the process Friday The candidates were interviewed Monday by a panel of Colorado city managers and by City Council. The four then met with members of the public and with members of city staff.

No public timetable has been set for the final hiring.

MSPD responded to a vehicle, which had been tagged as abandoned for 11 days, at Cañon Avenue and Glen Road. It was towed to the impound lot.

A domestic violence in progress was reported in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. Manitou officers found that an assault had occurred and a warrant was issued for the suspect.

MSPD responded to a domestic violence reported in the 100 block of Poplar Place. It was determined to be unfounded, but a case report was taken.

Officers were dispatched to a business in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, where a possible assault was alleged to have occurred. While driving to the scene, the officers contacted the suspect; he was cited for harassment and released.

Manitou officers contacted a man after seeing him with a fire in a business parking lot in the 3100 block of West Colorado Avenue. After identifying him, they learned he had a local misdemeanor warrant. He was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

June 28

MSPD responded to a traffic accident involving a bicycle and a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. No major injuries occurred.

Officers stopped a vehicle with no license plate in the 500 block of Manitou Avenue. After contacting the driver, they learned he had no license, no registration and no insurance. He was cited for criminal traffic violations and the vehicle was impounded.

MSPD responded to the report of an abandoned vehicle that had been parked in the 00 block of Grant Avenue for approximately nine days.

The vehicle was impounded.

June 29

Officers contacted a man in a vehicle with an expired temporary tag near U.S. Highway 24 and Ridge Road. After learning he had an out-of-county misdemeanor warrant, he was taken into custody and booked into CJC. While patrolling the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, Manitou officers observed a vehicle being driven in an erratic manner. After stopping it, they began to suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Roadside testing was completed and the suspect was taken into custody before a chemical sample was collected.

MSPD found a credit card; it has been placed in found property.

At 1700 hours, officers stopped a vehicle at westbound Highway 24 and Hagerman Avenue. The male driver was found to have multiple local misdemeanor warrants and was taken into custody, then booked into CJC. MSPD located graffiti in a Soda Springs Park restroom at 2300 hours.

The suspect is unknown.

June 30

Officers collected property found in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue; it has been placed into safekeeping.

MSPD responded to a report of domestic violence in progress in the 00 block of El Paso Boulevard.

Officers investigated while on scene and arrested a woman on charges including simple assault, cruelty toward a child and harassment.

A wallet was found downtown and turned in to MSPD. The owner

has not been identified and it has been secured in found property.

At 2115 hours, officers responded to a check-the-welfare request in the 1300 block of Manitou Avenue. They discovered that a protection order had been violated and a warrant was issued for the suspect.

July 1

MSPD responded to a non-injury traffic accident in the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue. After an investigation, the driver at fault was cited and released.

July 2

Officers were approached in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue about a harassment that had just occurred. A woman reported that an unknown man had harassed and followed her.

She decided not to press charges.

MSPD stopped a vehicle with expired registration in the 400 block of Manitou Avenue. The officers observed the driver seemed impaired due to alcohol and conducted roadside maneuvers. The woman was arrested for DUI. Someone driving through the Wichita parking lot, 700 block of Manitou Avenue, ran over a woman’s foot. All involved parties remained on scene and MSPD determined that nothing criminal had occurred.

July 3

A vehicle weaving across lane lines on eastbound Highway 24 was stopped near mile marker 300.

Officers investigated on scene and arrested the male driver for DUI. MSPD contacted a transient near the intersection of West Colorado Avenue and Ridge Road. He was arrested on a local misdemeanor warrant.

COURT UPDATE Former Manitou Springs High school teacher Timothy Hilt is scheduled to be sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 1, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He pled guilty to two counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Matthew Barton, another former MSHS teacher accused of sexual assault on a student, is scheduled for a motions hearing Tuesday, July 19. A pre-trial readiness conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 4, and his jury trial is set to start Monday, Oct. 10.

Construction update Colorado Springs project

30th Street is closed in both directions between Gateway Road and Fontanero Street through early summer 2023. Access to Garden of the Gods Park, including the Visitor & Nature Center, will be maintained from Garden of the Gods Road.

The detour directs all traffic to use Centennial Boulevard. Park and Visitor Center traffic can enter 30th Street from Garden of the Gods Road.

Water Street and Westmoor Drive are closed at 30th Street, but 31st Street will remain open for access to the Pleasant Valley neighborhood.

Crews have opened 30th Street between Mesa Road and Gateway Road to traffic after reconstruction. Garden of the Gods Park now has a new

roundabout entry to improve access and traffic flow.

Occasional lane or shoulder closures are possible within the work zone. As needed, flaggers will assist with traffic control. General work hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.

Occasional extended work hours or weekend work may be necessary.

Manitou Springs project

The paving operation scheduled for Duncan, Michigan and Mesa avenues has been delayed. It will start Monday, July 25, and tentatively end Friday, July 29.

Work will take place 7 a.m.-7 p.m. weekdays.

Residents should park on nearby side streets; one-way through traffic and access to homes will be maintained as much as possible.
