She started at Miami as a Building and Grounds Assistant at Harris Hall then moved to Martin Hall followed by variety of locations over the years. We sat down with Vernetta to discuss her time at Miami and what is next for her. What are you most proud of while working at Miami? I feel my proudest moments at Miami are some of the lives I have touched. I have a lot of the students that have kept in touch with me and full time staff. I was their Mother away from home and a counselor and their friend. In your 30 years at Miami, what or who kept you interested and passionate about your job? I think the reason I kept interested in my job was all the different positions I had worked in and all the different locations. I also have met a variety of people. Any advice you would give to current CS employees? I tell my current staff to take care of each other and to treat each other with respect. Please take care of the students and make the new employees feel welcome. Try and learn to accept change because it is going to happen. They are here with each other as much as they are at home. Do the best job they can do and be happy. Life is to short so make the best of it.
happiness and good health.

What will you miss the most about Miami? I will miss all of the people I work with and the students. I have a lot of different relationships with different people and each and every one of them are special to me. What’s next for you? I plan on spending more time with my grandchildren and enjoying life.
