National Civil Rights Conference Comes to Miami Campus Services played a large role in bringing the National Civil Rights Conference to Miami June 20-22 this year. Miami was selected to host the conference for its strong history in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and additionally highlighted new efforts underway to advance diversity and inclusion in society today. The conference flowed between the Marcum Center, Shriver Center, and Western Campus, including a Truth and Reconciliation Marker Dedication in Oxford's Uptown Park. Keynote speakers presented, surrounded by several art displays including a series of educational banners on loan from Miami's Art Museum. Many components of the conference were available virtually, including the commemorative wreath ceremony from Philadelphia, Mississippi honoring the lives of the three
students who lost their lives after departing Western Campus's training facility for civil rights workers. These students - James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner - were honored by Miami last year by the naming of lounge spaces on Western's Campus.
