National Civil Rights Conference Comes to Miami Campus Services played a large role in bringing the National Civil Rights Conference to Miami June 20-22 this year. Miami was selected to host the conference for its strong history in the Civil Rights movement of the 1960s and additionally highlighted new efforts underway to advance diversity and inclusion in society today.

The conference flowed between the Marcum Center, Shriver Center, and Western Campus, including a Truth and Reconciliation Marker Dedication in Oxford's Uptown Park. Keynote speakers presented, surrounded by several art displays including a series of educational banners on loan from Miami's Art Museum. Many components of the conference were available virtually, including the commemorative wreath ceremony from Philadelphia, Mississippi honoring the lives of the three

students who lost their lives after departing Western Campus's training facility for civil rights workers. These students - James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner - were honored by Miami last year by the naming of lounge spaces on Western's Campus.

MDI Integration The Food & Beverage, IT support, and Marketing teams are working together to incorporate a new Mobile Display Interface, or MDI, connection that will translate data from the Food Service Suite to the digital menu boards around campus. This new MDI connection will replace an outdated PHP script currently acting as the intermediary, and will be able to display the data in real time as opposed to a data dump every 24 hours. The connection will be applied to all digital menu boards in the dining commons and a la carte locations and will also include the newly added Sesame Allergen Icon as well.

Directions: - Take your favorite rub or seasonings, coat the block of cream cheese with seasonings.

- Drizzle about a 1/2 ounce to an ounce of olive oil on and around the edges.

- Smoke at 250° for 3 hours.

- Spread on crusty bread or crackers.

Plastic Free July Plastic Free July is a global movement where participants make the conscious decision to reduce the use of single-use plastics in their everyday lives throughout the month of July. By refusing the use of single-use plastics and reusing the plastic items you already own, you can help reduce waste, change your habits, and reduce your carbon footprint.

Simple changes you can make are: - Switching to bar soap - Use reusable water bottles, coffee cups, straws, etc.

- Use a bamboo toothbrush - Switch to a safety razor with replaceable stainless steel blades - Separate your trash into compost, recycle, and general waste - Ditch the cling wrap! Try wax wraps instead Participating in Plastic Free July is easier than you think! Even if you take a few of these steps, you’ll be contributing to a global movement to reduce waste. If you like these changes, maybe you can adopt them into your everyday life.

Buckeye Boys State With one more Buckeye Boys State on the books, the Campus Services teams reflect on another successful year. The event looked a bit different this year, with roughly half the amount of attendees, but with all of the same excitement and activity on campus. Throughout the week, the boys create a newsletter, called the Hetuck, where they document highlights from the week’s adventures. One opinion piece included a very nice comment on the dining experience: “I think it is safe to say that the Miami food staff takes their task of serving the BBS Community seriously. From the very first day, they set quite the standard and have not let up since. Their diligence in the kitchen is beyond commendable and I can't speak for everyone, but I know I do my best to not waste a grain of rice. Seriously, the jasmine rice is bussin bussin.”

Congratulations to the Event Services and Food & Beverage teams for overcoming unforeseen challenges for another great year.
