Alumnae Au Courant September 2016 Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year. We are happy to introduce 75 freshly minted Sacred Heart Greenwich graduates to the alumnae base. 100 percent of the class of 2016 donated to Sacred Heart Greenwich their senior year and we look forward to the same active participation from our class of 2017 as well as all other classes.

Our reunion will be held on Saturday, September 24 in conjunction with the Fall Festival. We hope ALL graduates from EVERY year will return to campus for Fall Festival, athletic competitions, tours of the school, the liturgy and awards presentation, as well as the cocktail reception. It is a great way to connect with classmates; find more information under "Save the Date" below.

We look forward to your continued support and enthusiasm as we embark on our 168th year in Greenwich.

Back to School “This year, we return to reconnect our energies to the education of youth as members of a vibrant, mission-centered community,” said Head of School Pamela Juan Hayes ’64 in her back-to-school letter to parents. Our School’s theme for 2016-2017 is “Educating to New Frontiers.” We will focus on creating opportunities for our students to imagine the possibilities of improving the world around them.

Science Research recognized at White House On August 16, recent graduates Katherine Siciliano '16 and Madison Miles '16 were honored at The White House along with science research teacher Mary Musolino. The duo recieved the President's Environmental Youth Award for their research on viable, safe alternatives to chemical fertilizers. They created a food waste compost that helps protect people and the environment from harmful chemical runoff while helping plants grow at the same time.

Lewisboro sends Delegate to Democratic National Convention From July 25-28, Christina Rae '87 represented Lewisboro at the DNC in Philadelphia. Rae joined the Lewisboro Democratic Committee in 1988 and has worked to help Democrats win election to office. In order to gain her position as a delegate, Rae was first nominated by Reggie Lafayette, chair of the Westchester County Democratic Committee.

Against the Hillside by Sylvia Khoury '08 On July 20 and 21, Sylvia Khoury's play Against the Hillside was featured at the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, located in New York City, during its summer season of plays, musical and other works. Eight plays were chosen from a pool of more than 1,400 plays.

Sacred Heart Medal Count The 2016 Summer Olympics have come to a close which means it is time to celebrate how many awesome Sacred Heart Olympian moments there were.

Lia Neal (Convent of the Sacred Heart) & Katie Ledecky (Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) won silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay.

Katie Ledecky took home 4 gold medals (200m, 400m, 800m, 4x200m relay) and the silver in the 4x100m relay.

Denise Sheldon (Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton) coached Team USA Volleyball to a bronze medal.

KK Clark (SHS Atherton) and Team USA Water Polo took home a gold medal.

Gaby Lopez (Sacred Heart Mexico) played four competitive rounds of golf, finishing as high in the standings as 11th in one round.

Erin Rafuse (Sacred Heart School of Halifax) sailed in 12 competitive races with her teammate Danielle Boyd for Team Canada.

Anabelle Smith (Sacre Coeur Australia) and teammate Maddison Keeney took bronze in the 3m synchronized diving.

Mary Joe Fernandez (Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart) helped coach an impressive women's tennis squad that featured both of the Williams sisters.

Gabi Nance (Stuartholme School, Australia) competed with Team Australia field hockey, making it through to the quarterfinals of competition.

The Fund for Sacred Heart (formerly Annual Giving) The name of our annual giving campaign has been changed to reflect its true purpose: to provide unrestricted financial resources for Sacred Heart so it may support and attract execptional students and faculty.

Save the Date Reunion 2016 and Fall Festival: Reunion and Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

The schedule for Reunion is as follows: 11:00am to 2:00pm - Fall Festival (new this year!) - Bring the entire family to the Fall Festival and enjoy pumpkin painting, bouncy houses, games and more.

Mass of the Holy Spirit: Join us to celebrate the Mass of the Holy Spirit with Bishop Frank J. Caggiano on Tuesday, September 20, at 10am in the Athletic Center. All alumnae and parents are invited to attend.

Memorial Mass for Sr. Ann Conroy, RSCJ: All are invited to a Memorial Mass for Sr. Ann Conroy, RSCJ on Sunday, October 2nd at 4:00pm. The mass will be held in the School's Chapel followed by a reception. RSVP to alumnae@cshct.org by September 23.

RSCJ.org writes, "In 1994, Ann became the Assistant Head and interim Upper School Director at the Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich, Connecticut. Many who knew her commented that “Ann had a very active ministry at Greenwich where she was responsible for the Children of Mary and part of the Development Team because of her long history with the school. She often subbed for the theology teachers and was in fact a friend and confidante to many of the faculty."

Golf & Tennis Outing: On Monday, October 3, spend a day on the golf course supporting the Summer Outreach Program at Sacred Heart.

Since 1991 Sacred Heart Greenwich has opened its campus and resources to nurture hundreds of young authors, scientists, artists, scholars and athletes from local, low income families. This five week, full-day program includes round-trip transportation, lunch, snack, and enrichment for 260 boys and girls, grades 2 – 8, many of whom qualify to receive free lunch in their public schools. As a further commitment, Upper School Sacred Heart students and alumnae volunteer alongside a paid staff of experienced teachers and coaches to provide a fun, challenging, and supportive summer environment.

Mary Madden '50 "Mary Ann Madden, who for three decades challenged New York magazine readers to compose double dactyls, literary limericks, godawful puns and dexterous spoonerisms in a weekly competition that foreshadowed hashtag games on Twitter, died on July 26 at her home in Manhattan. Marion O'Grady, mother of Adele '68, Marion '69, Ann '73 and Joan '75

Marion passed away on June 27,2016. She sent four daughters to Sacred Heart Greenwich, where she served as President of the Parents' Association and as a volunteer for many years.

Four of Marion's grandchildren also attended Sacred Heart Schools. One granddaughter attended 91st St, two granddaughters attended SHS Atherton and her grandson is currently at SHS Atherton.

Regina Riley, mother of Gina '69, Caroline '73, Ann-Marie '80 and Jane '83 Regina W.
