At CSDG, we believe relationships are the differentiator and that a team dynamic is key. Our leadership team is involved and accessible, offering an unrivalled depth of expertise while shaping a future where we continue to innovate.

Through a collaborative, cohesive process and without compromise, CSDG delivers solutions both aspirational and realistic to expand the view of what’s possible in the real world.

Over the past 12 years, we have built a landscape architecture studio with a broad range of professional skills and diverse backgrounds with experience across the United States and internationally. Each of our team members brings a passion for the built environment allowing us to focus on creating unique, authentic and memorable user experiences that inspire the imagination and connect with emotions.

Landscape architecture to us is a dynamic, collaborative and visionary process that is focused on translating the client’s vision into reality. Each project is unique and with the ever-changing development environment and trends, our goal is to develop alternatives that test the viability of different design solutions. The natural environment provides us inspiration when creating functional spaces that reflect the local character, history and culture of the area, while respecting the natural qualities of the land as a foundation for sustainable solutions. Our urban spaces are vital components to the fabric of our cities and communities. From urban parks, roof terraces and public plazas, to governmental centers and active, mixed-use districts, the design of these environments is an art that requires an understanding of a wide range of social, economic and environmental issues.

We pride ourselves on being a solutions-based studio, regardless of project size. As a multi-disciplinary design firm, our landscape architecture studio is directly integrated with our civil engineering teams on a daily basis. Working in tandem with our engineers allows for a much more seamless design process and better end product, both for our clients and the users of the spaces we create.

Lookout Shoals Marina

Chattanooga, TN

The City of Chattanooga has seen great growth in recent years. One of it’s most prominent natural features, the Tennessee River, weaves through the city, contributing to the city’s identity. The River provides unique recreation activities connected directly to downtown. As Chattanooga grows, more and more people want access to the Tennessee River through development possibilities and recreation opportunities.

On the west side of Chattanooga, approximately 86 acres of land five miles from downtown by car and four miles by boat has been identified by KPH Development as a great development opportunity to provide more access to the Tennessee River. This development can create a new connection point to the River via both public and private boat access while provided much needed additional inventory for boat storage downriver of the Chickamauga Dam. The project seeks to create a mixed use destination and sense of place where a marina serves the boating community to live, visit and enjoy the Tennessee River.

Legacy Park at Long Hollow

Hendersonville, TN

Located in Hendersonville, TN, Long Hollow Baptist Church identified their outdoor space adjacent to their worship center as an underutilized area that needed intentional design. The goal was to create a welcoming and engaging environment where church members and community members could connect throughout the week. Working with Visioneering Studios, CSDG created a master plan to design an inviting and interactive park that would appeal to all ages and have a lasting impact; the project was appropriately named “Legacy Park.” The park includes basketball and pickleball courts, turf grass fields and a new playground. Ample seating along the deck encourages groups to gather for conversation and covered patio areas allow parents to connect while watching their kids play. A focal point of the design is the sculptural “Stones of Remembrance” tower and water feature, where pathways leading from the existing Education Building, Kids Building and Student Building enhance navigation and connectivity. At night, the campus is equally appealing with generous lighting to encourage evening activities.

Lieper’s Fork Farm

Lieper’s Fork, TN

CSDG was approached by the property owners of a 76-acre property in the rolling hills of Leiper’s Fork to help masterplan a private working farmstead for the family. The property owner’s passion for organic farming, livestock, entertaining and creating a community based around agriculture is reflected in the design. Entertaining spaces spill out into the agricultural areas as well as take in views of the surrounding hillside. The design includes dwellings for a homesite as well as two working barns, a production garden area, greenhouses, and an orchard. The orchard now has over 120 fruit trees on terraces rolling down the property towards the existing tree canopy. The house and guest house have multiple entertaining spaces which include fire pit terraces, outdoor kitchens, and a pool that capitalizes on some of the main views of the property. Across the hill sits an artificial turf golf practice area that can be played from multiple tee boxes, a hilltop overlook deck and a clay shoot area. The property is currently under construction.

Built into the valley of two straddling hillsides, the 8,000 square foot house was carefully placed to respect the natural slopes and existing tree canopy on the 5-acre property. Working through detailed city and neighborhood guidelines, the home and site design were carefully coordinated with the project architect to find harmony with expansive views and a wooded back patio retreat. The back patio included a terraced pool patio with an infinity edge embracing the woods, while a lower fire pit terrace helps ground the homeowners in their new home’s environment. The project is currently under construction.

Davidson Street Bikeway

Nashville, TN

The Davidson Street section of the Music City Bikeway is the longest continuous bike lane in the public right-of-way in Nashville. It is a key connection from East Nashville and Shelby Bottoms Park to Downtown Nashville via the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge. Since completion of the bikeway in 2015, it has become a popular cyclist commuter route from East Nashville to Downtown as well as enjoyed by recreational users.

While providing great connectivity, the Davidson Street Bikeway can be uncomfortable as a cyclist/pedestrian due to the existing large road section of impervious surface combined with the lack of shade from existing trees. By removing underutilized existing pavement within the public right-of-way, this project aims to create a more comfortable pedestrian experience while slowing down and improving stormwater quality through low-impact design practices. The key objectives for this project are to improve water quality, increase the urban tree canopy and set a standard for future bikeways in Nashville.
