How to create a Segment in 5 easy steps

Step 1: Navigate to your side menu, click on Tools, and then select Segments

Continued steps Step 3: Click on Enter Contact IDs Step 4: Title your new segment and then enter in student’s DB ID one line at a time. Find student DB IDs from your roster of advisees. Click the Create button when finished.

You must use Student DB ID (Database ID). These are 6 digits long.

Do not use the student's "Student ID" number which is their "lunch number." These are 10 digits long.

The Student DB ID is how we identify the student in CrosbyConnect so that is the key. The Student ID number is assigned by the state of North Carolina to follow a student through their entire K-12 education.

Step 5: Click on your new segment and you should see all of your students!

Messaging to segments

Click Compose and go to the second tab “Send to Segments”.

Type in your segment name.

Type out your message and then send!

Conversations Click on the CONVERSATION drop down in the navigation bar Next, select your name to view all your conversations.

Click on "Conversations" in the menu on the left of your screen.

Click on your name to continue into conversations.

Click on Compose to start a message

At the top of your screen, click on the purple "Compose" button.

Within the “Send to Contacts” tab, you can search for the student you wish to contact.

You can find the student by searching by First Name, Last Name, DB ID, or Mobile Number.

If you cannot find the student but have the student Mobile Number, you can manually enter the Mobile Number and compose a message to the student.

Then, click “NEXT.”

Be aware of the blue bar at the bottom the CHARACTER LIMIT

Texts need to be short and concise!

Now, try to send a sample text! You can text another staff member or just text your own personal cell number.

Helpful Messaging Tips Putting CROSBY SCHOLARS: At the beginnging of your messages or at the end so students don’t think you’re spam

Adding emojis into messages so messages don’t get flagged as spam!

Clicking “Send Now” will immediatly send your text to students

You can select to “Send Now” or select “Schedule” to have the Mongoose.

Cadence system send the text message at a preferred time or date.

If you’re sending multuple messages and want to include their name Click “FIELD” Click “First Name” from the list

Once you’re in PREVIEW You will see how the message will look when sent to each student with their first name OR whatever field you use

Step 1: Title you message Step 2: Choose the date of your message Step 3: Select the time you want your message delivered Step 4: SCHEDULE!

Confirm everything looks good hit “NEXT”

I'd mention that the "Message Name" for these scheduled messages is only viewable to the sender. -MAC

Helpful Messaging Tips Students have the option to OptOut of messages from Mongoose.

Their contacts can often look like this when you’re looking for them in the system. These students no longer recieve messages from Crosby or Advising.

If one of your advisees shows here as "Opted Out" then please reach out to them via email or contact a parent as we need them to have the Text Agreement.

On your Smart phone

Most functionality is the same in the Mongoose app but not all. It is still a nice feature to use when trying to reach a student quickly.

This is optional but if you'd like to download the app on your phone or iPad, you can.

Then, just log in with the same email and password.

Reminders: try not to text students during the school day (per WS/FCS policy) schedule meeting reminders for the evening before or the morning of (keeping in mind the school day begins at 8:55am) ask your scholars to save YOUR Mongoose texting number in their phones so they know it’s you; they’ll receive other texts from Crosby (JR+SR, Advising and Fin Aid) but they will be different Mongoose #s

There is also a "Help Center" in the left-hand menu on the platform dashboard.
